Thoughts on DC's New Executive Team

It's my favorite publisher, my favorite writer, and one of my favorite artists... What do you think I'm going to talk about?

Big changes coming DC Comics (Detective Comics Comics?) this week as you may already know. ( The scoop!) What does this mean for everyone else? I used my psychic abilities to figure it out... kinda. For those who didn't read the article, big names were announced to be a part of the actual running of DC. Again... read the article... It's got all the juicy tidbits.

Week after week, Marvel beats DC in sales. Part of me thinks it's because a chunk of Marvel books are more expensive, but  the fact of the matter is that, sales wise, Marvel wins the majority of the time. The answer to that used to be that Marvel just reached bigger audiences. The reason why: Marketing. Television shows, toys, bed spreads, you name it, Marvel had it. It was in your face... everywhere. Kids not only loved Marvel's characters, they knew them all by name, even M.O.D.O.K.

In the recent few years, DC has started to follow suit. DC's straight-to-dvd films are hitting the shelves, and we're seeing more and more merchandise in the stores. The more DC products are in the public eye, the more children will jump on board. Most people who read comics now know they fell in love with the art form as a kid and continued to love it until adulthood. “Grab em’ while they’re young.” So the old team at DC has that part covered.

Now that we have Didio, Lee, and Johns in charge of major aspects of the company, and since there are major players in the industry helping run a company, they can use their experience to guide the company in many different directions. They could bring a higher standard of writers and artists to DC. Maybe this is a chance for the company to bring in new readers by presenting stories that are more compelling, like what is being done with Blackest Night or Superman Secret Origin. This could make the company, and its characters, more accessible to the average reader who hasn’t picked up a DC book in a while. This will bring the company more revenue, more readers, and bring in a little more dough to the retailers.

These guys are now the creative guys behind DC. You already know what type of caliber of book they bring to the table, and now that they essentially run things, you can be sure to see more of that to come. This company is on the right track and having these guys working together to run things would only help DC out.

What do you guys think? Anyone disagree with this? Any speculations?
