'Thor 2' Casting Update

Thor's going to the "Dark World" but he won't be going alone.

There hasn't been a lot of news for the sequel to Thor and we haven't really reported on what is known. The sequel is due in theaters November 8, 2013. What was announced at Comic-Con was the ful title, Thor: The Dark World. With that title, we can start piecing together some information.

Most of the cast is returning. The biggest announcement was Christopher Eccleston appearing as Malekith the Accursed. As ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, you know Thor is going to be a little busy.

Earlier this week Deadline reported that Kat Dennings will be back as Darcy Lewis, friend to Natalie Portman's Jane Foster. This raises the question of how much of the movie will take place on Asgard and how much on Midgard? From the end of The Avengers (spoilers),we know Thor takes Loki back to Asgard to own up to his actions.

Another recent addition is Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has been cast as Algrim the Strong, a Dark Elf fighter for Malekith.

== TEASER ==

We'll keep our eyes peeled for any new developments. The question remains, what will be the overall focus of the movie and what key stories might they draw from? It's looking like most of the movie will be set on Asgard compared to the first film but with Portman and Dennings in the cast, we have to assume Thor might be spending some time on Earth as well.

Where is Amora?

Sounds better and better

And these are confirmed and not just people guessing like when Colm Feorewas cast and people thought he might play Malekith the Accursed. Or when Kat Bennings was cast and people thought she might play Hela?

This sounds like a pretty solid cast! Although I would've loved to know what happened to Balder...

Which means Adewale is no longer a candidate to play Black Panther :(

Sounds like a good plot device to give Thor his belt sometime during this movie.

Cool. Can't wait!

Sounds interesting.

So they're just casting anyone as anyone now? Eccleston is such a poor choice for a villain, he can't show any malice at all, and he wouldn't suit the way Malekith looks in the comics. But I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the film.

So stoked for this. Glad that Kat is coming back because I love her sense of humor. Has it already been confirmed that Natalie Portman will be back? And most importantly...

Has it been confirmed that Chris Helmsworth will have more shirtless scenes? The quality of the film depends on that.

Perhaps it would be better to bring Jane Foster to Asgard this time.

HEY WE CAN'T POSSIBLY HAVE THE 2ND MOST NOTEWORTHY AND IMPORTANT THOR VILLAIN IN THIS FILM BECAUSE SHE'S A WOMAN.

Posted by InnerVenom123

I wonder if we'll get more hilariously over the top reactions to casting this time around.

Posted by Namor1987

I'd prefer the Enchantress & Skurge The Executioner over this clown.

Posted by rasx

This movie is sounding way better than Ironman 3.

She might have a cameo that leads into the third film.

F*** Kat Dennings. She's an awful actress. She's got a nice rack. That's it. Nothing else good about her.

Still no word of the enchantress. /sigh

She was so damn annoying in the first movie, by far the worst part of it.

What about the dark elves? the enchantress? the skurge?

Love me some Kat Dennings!

Christopher Eccleston as a villain? I don't know the villain, so I can't say much, but that's just such an unexpected and interesting choice. It seems odd, but I'm sure he can pull it off. I'm now a lot more excited for the movie. Screw Iron Man 3, I just want Thor 2 and Cap 2.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is an awesome actor but as for his character he will be playing i have knolege of him so i guess im off to the wiki to find out. Also the dude who played fanreal in the first thor wount be doing it so they got the guy who plays chuck to play that role. P.S. chuck is an awesome show

Im disappointed with dark elves I want Beta Ray Bill to reach the big screen and I saw this as his chance to make it

Posted by Om1kron

I hope Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje gets in shape for this movie because I didn't even recognize him in faster.

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

Nice, the guy who played Heavy Duty from the first G. I. Joe movie will be in it. And I like the idea of Eccleston playing Malekith and including the Dark Elves. This will be great!

Posted by TheSyndicate

Looks good so far.

Edited by Miss_Garrick

YAY! Christopher Eccleston!! He's one of my favorite Doctor Whos, in fact, he's the one who got me hooked into the show!

I want Beta Ray Bill to show up!!

Going by what we have so far, I figure the plot wil obviously have something to do with the casket of ancient winters and Surtur. The really COOL thing is that Walter Simonson had the Avengers cross over in one issue during the Surtur storyline so Marvel should have some of the Avenger actors make a cameo appearance in this sequel.

"Can't show any malice at all"? Did you ever see Eccleston play the Doctor? I definitely think he can show malice.

Adewale is an amazing actor - I loved him on Oz and LOST especially.

I want BRB. =/.

As the doctor he didn't show malice at all.. do you know what malice means?

Though I think he's a good casting choice, your example was just not all that great.
