The Return of Damian Wayne?

There's a new miniseries coming. What does this mean for the little guy?

By now you should be aware that Damian Wayne is dead. The most recent Robin and son to Batman died a brutal death. We've been all waiting for his possible return or resurrection. Could that day be coming soon?

Yes and no.

DC Comics has announced Damian's return in a four-issue miniseries written and drawn by Andy Kubert this October.

DAMIAN: SON OF BATMAN will flash-forward to the potential future where Damian takes on the mantle of the Bat.

But isn't he dead?

We all know that no one really stays dead in comics. Also, this is and, always has been, a potential future.

In a NY Post exclusive, Kubert states his fondness for the future first seen in BATMAN #666.

"Basically what I'm doing is exploring the path Damian has taken to become Batman. I think readers will see him in a different light than before."

This still doesn't mean Damian will return in the current comics. But it also doesn't mean that he won't. As great as BATMAN #666 was and the world we were introduced to, this should be a great read. We may not know what the present may hold but this gives us a chance to see what the future could possibly sort of give us.

Very excited, I love Damian as Batman

Dreams do come true!!! Ive ALWAYS wanted a series set in the 666 future and the fact that its being drawn by Andy Kubert is even better! Too bad Morrison isnt writing though.

That being said while the title of the article is technically true it still trolled the shit out of me haha. I seriously cant wait for Damian to come back to life and maybe if this series sells like hotcakes it will speed up his return somehow! EVERYONE BUY THIS BOOK!

sounds like it could b e good. need see some art first

It would've been better if Morrison wrote this, but I'm sure Kubert will do a great job.

Another Batman character gets his own title? How original *sighs* Proof that DC doesn't care about their other characters.

@johnny_blaze: I kinda find that disappointing to now that I think of it there are so many characters the could of been given more attention that either died early or just died or didn't have that much ateention pre52 wise.

I know I should be pissed off that yet another comic book death has lasted like 5 months, but in this case I don't give a shit, I want my favorite Robin back asap!

DC has always been known to be scared of taking risk. Why can't Raven or Roy Harper have their own ongoing titles? Nope we just get more Batman and Batman-related crap, because that is all that DC knows unfortunately.

Bah! How much does DC want to milk that 'future' Batman story?

Instant pull. I need Damian back in my life.

@v_scarlotte_rose: The Ray, Legion of Super Heroes: Secret Origin and the Phantom Lady where all part of the New 52

He meant that it doesn't count as one of the 52 ongoing series. This isn't taking away from another non-Batman character getting a book

*She meant*, but yeah, that's all I meant.

Everyone has loved future "Damian" Batman since 666. When that came out, everyone wanted more of it. We've only got glimpses till now because Morrison had a plan for the present character. Now that Damian is finally dead, this alternate future version's story can be completely told.

Damian is the greatest robin

The Robin costume really looks good on Damian as a kid. As a young adult, Badass!!!

-2 Katanas

-Spike knuckles

-Awesome long cape with the hood

Thanks Damian for making the Robin uniform manly and something to fear!!

Well, at least this is a possible future Damian, and not a cop out to cheapen his death.

@reignmaker: poor logic. they would just end up making this an ongoing instead of bringing out damien back (look what marvel did with jean grey). will check it out to see if there are any hints to his return from the grave and if this could be a canon future. not excited, i like damien as robin where i can see his face and he has a cool costume. not looking forward to another batman/bruce wayne like person. damien was/is unique.

Yeah, that's exactly what they'd do. What Marvel did. Because after all, DC is Marvel.

Very good idea, I like this but really this should be able to be its own ongoing if you ask me. But I really like this!

YES!

Oh my god, I'm so happy I cant breathe! I just wish it was an ongoing instead of a mini. :/

YES,YES.

This was first announced by Kubert almost 3 years ago.

Roy Harper and Raven already have ongoings.

I haven't/didn't. I don't quite get the hype about it.

I've never really been into Damian though, so maybe it's just not for me.

Have you read Batman #666? Its the best alternate Batman story where Bruce isn't Batman IMO, and everyone = most of readers who read the issue.

Posted by V_Scarlotte_Rose

@rustyroy: Yeah I've read it. I wasn't really a fan of the issue itself, and I was kind of surprised by people talking about wanting it to be a series.

We all have different opinions though, so I suppose it's inevitable that some people won't be interested in this.

Really? I didn't hear about that. Also it's not officially part of the New 52 apparently so my point is nullified.

Posted by RustyRoy

@v_scarlotte_rose: Yeah I never said everyone will be interested, but I think most of us Damian and Batman 666 fans wanted this.

What's Andy Kubert like as a writer?

Still, love the concept!

I agree, except the last part...I'm a Damian fan myself.

I just thought that that particular story is over and we needn't have to revisit it time and time again.

I'm all for fresh ideas.

I love how pretty much everyone in this thread is clamoring for his return but most of these people are the same people who complain about death's revolving door in comics

Edited by G_Money_Christmas

I might pick this up. I thought Damian was a little a-hole and I wasn't too fond of him, but for some reason it's caught my attention. We'll see about my funds when it comes out.

I hope we get cameos from other future DC characters, like maybe a grown up Kara? Or even younger ones such as Sin (Black Canary's ex-foster daughter and next Shiva)

I know before the New 52 we got to see a grown-up version of Superboy in that Batman 666 universe so I'm hoping to see him again!

@krazyman27 said:

The whole point of Blackest Night was to establish that dead is dead in the DC Universe. That said, has the New 52 done anything with Lazarus Pits yet? I figure that's how they'll eventually bring Damian back without technically cheating, if they're going to bring him back.

I think it's been established that Jason Todd was brought back to life by the Lazarus Pit already. So we know it's still around at least.

also in JLA #1 they said there is one Lazarus pit that is still operational that they know of, so i think after Trinity Damian will return by the Lazarus pit

@johnny_blaze: same. I could really do without that Talon series.

I think we are going to have a other red hood

Posted by danny_vasey

At risk of being flamed for my first comment: I'd have to be honest, I really don't like the 666 suit. Though it's not a future I'd in any way desire, I still think it'd be very interesting to explore the possibility and what it entails.
