The New Doctor Is In, Matt Smith Begins Filming Doctor Who

What do you think of the next Doctor?

What are your thoughts on the new Doctor, Matt Smith?  Most of us don't like change.  I always have a hard time when one Doctor leaves and regenerates into another.  It's good to keep things fresh.  I just don't like when an incarnation doesn't last too long.  David Tennant really grew on me.  At first, I was a little skeptical, as I am now.

Matt Smith will be playing the eleventh Doctor.  Filming has begun.  Images have already made their way online.  xerox-kitty has posted one image earlier todayMail Online has posted some more:

What are your thoughts?  For me, it's a little weird when the Doctor is "younger" than I am.  Something just seems wrong with the fabric of the space/time continuum.

They each gotta find their own style I guess

He dresses like a math professor.

I have a feeling (unless there was a piece of dialogue we missed) that this may be the 12th doctor and there was a doctor before Eccelson and after McGaan that fought in the time war....
Saying that, I would hope this would be the Doctor from Trial of a Time Lord that becomes flat-out evil...

When I say "feeling" I think I meant to say "things I would like to happen"

Regardless, I'm excited, although it is weird, as G-Man said, that there is a Doctor younger than me.

I'd have to see him in action before I start judging him

Posted by G-Man

I'll admit I'm not crazy about him so far but obviously seeing will be believing.  I know my judgment right now is not fair.  That's only because I don't want Tennant to leave just yet.  I'm sure he'll be great.  He wouldn't have been chosen otherwise.

Dammit, I was hoping he'd fix his hair...

He has some weird hair.

he looks like a 16 year old at halloween dressed as a maths teacher

Edited by Citizen 14

Huh. I;m not sure about this. I loved David Tennant. and like comments above, he does dress like a math teacher.
I'm still like forward to it however.

Posted by G-Man

Hey, I was a math teacher for many years and NEVER dressed like that!

I HATE HIS OUTFIT.

God, just because he's young doesn't mean they have to try and make him look ancient!
Wears the modern, gorgeous suits that David Tennant Doc wears?

They've supposed to change faces not personalities.

I'm skeptical, if not for Matt Smith, then for the fact that the TARDIS looks too new and clean... she's old, she's litterally been to hell and back repeatedly, she should look at least a little weathered. But yeah, Smith will have to be a damn good actor to change my mind about him... meh, maybe he'll grow on me.

The new companion is a bit of a hottie based on what I've seen so far.

@G-Man: and I'm sure you were a cool math teacher... unlike this Doctor. lol

Half the classroom walls had comic/movie/music posters and banners.  I even had comic books on a shelf for the kids to read after finishing a test.  I have a 'video tour' of my room before I quit.  I don't think I ever posted it anywhere though.

As far as this Doctor's hair, it looks like it's windy at the beach.  Maybe?

That's awesome. We have the usual crap like motivational posters and winking dogs. You should put it up. That'd be cool to see.

David Tennant left some big shoes for Matt to fill but I believe he will do just fine. All the doctors did, so we shouldn't have anything to worry about.

The Doctor dressed as Dylan Thomas?

Yes please.

EVERY new doctor regeneration has pissed me off.  I loved Tom Baker back when I watched it as a little kid on PBS... then some new blonde guy became him and I stopped watching...  The new revamp of the show I loved Chris Ec and was soo pissed that he didn't stay for long.  It took a while for Tennant to sit with me but it only took a few episodes.  Hopefully it'll be the same this time around.  I agree though that I don't like this younger and younger doctor thing.  That's why Chris Ec was perfect, not too old, not a young kid.  They keep this up though they'll have child actors playing the next few doctors!

looks like a meathead

He's a bit Peter Parker with a little Jimmy Olsen thrown in, but we actually haven't heard him, or seen him act yet so there's no point in criticizing just yet. The red head is cute though, so even if he's no good, we still get something out of this...

Matt Smith was in a recent BBC mini-series called Moses Jones (I think, memory is rubbish this time of morning) and he was a good, solid support/foil for the main protagonist in this racially-centric production (too early to sound pompous, apologies). As a main character I'm not sure if he has the charisma, especially to play the Doctor. As has been said, time will tell. Give him a chance I say

Posted by xerox_kitty

G-Man gets dozens of replies... I only got one :p

I'm willing to give the 12th Doctor a chance.  I just wish he didn't dress like Professor Jones (i.e. Indiana Jones, when he's teaching).

It is odd to have a young Doctor.  Looks like this one might have some of the quirkyness hes been missing. Tennet was right up on the top for me. Peter Davison was my fav.  I woul dlike to see less of Earth in the show. One reason i didnt really care for the John Pertwee shows.

I'm all up for matt smith as doctor, just a bit skeptical about his attire

Posted by Beatrix

he looks like a pervert.

Posted by Jediknightjace

So long as he never actually wears the blue pants in the top pic, I'll live.

Posted by TheSavageAssasin

MeHHH i really liked David Tennat but i also liked christopher ecceleston so u never know

Posted by PrinceIMC

I think its always tough for a new Doctor to take over, specially with the last one being as popular as David was. I think they key to making a new Doctor work is making him different enough from the past one but having elements from various other doctors over the years.

Nope, that's how it's supposed to look.

IMO, the Doctor is a pervert anyway, LOL

Why else would he only take female companions? Take the Titanic episode for example, he's all up for taking a hot waitress who kissed him on as a companion, but when the smelly old man asks if he can tag along, he's all "I travel alone."

When you consider just how old the Doctor is, the show is really quite sick :P

lets see him in action, and then judge

The new Dr.Who looks like a real geek but thats way I like it!!!

Wow, I see the joke you're getting at, but you seem to not know your Who history, or even the current series apparently.  All of these "
formal" companions are male, if not all human, or long lived.

Ian Chesterton
Steven Taylor
Ben Jackson
Jamie McCrimmon (one of my favs)
Harry Sullivan
Adric
Vislor Turlough (also a fav)
Adam Mitchell
Mickey Smith
Jack Harkness
Jackson Lake
Wilfred Mott

why is this " new doctor" wearing outfits that the two docs before him wouldnt be cought dead in.

oh and to me david tennant is leaving too soon.
Posted by -Eclipse-
@Brackynews: I'm talking about the new series. I haven't watched the older ones.

And the point of the matter is, only his female companions have remained as companions for more than just a few episodes. I don't even recall Wilfred Mott ever being a companion...

When I talk about the Doctor's companion, I'm talking about Rose, Martha and Donna, the people who have sticked with him throughout entire series. Just because he let a few guys tag along sometimes doesn't make my point irrelevant :)

@pentagram: You really can't have seen the 6th Doctors gear then (hes one of my favorties regardless.)

judge not a doctor by his looks, but the painful look on his comapoins face in the last shot.

Leela (Louise Jameson) seems happy with Tom Baker's Doctor .

not so happy
