The New Age of Marvel: The Heroic Age

How will the end of SIEGE and the launch of 'The Heroic Age' shape the Marvel Universe?

How will the end of SIEGE and the launch of 'The Heroic Age' shape the Marvel Universe?

 SIEGE #4 of 4
 SIEGE #4 of 4
Over the weekend we reported that the Marvel solicitations for the events that would follow SIEGE had been officially released by Marvel. The current SIEGE story arc would mean the end of all titles related to ' The Avengers,' marking the end of ' Dark Avengers,' Mighty Avengers,' and ' Avengers: The Initiative,' for example. While many people are no doubt disappointed that some of the highest selling Marvel titles will be canceled, it does seem to make sense. Why cancel 'The Avengers' books unless there is no longer a reason to have them, right?

The end of SIEGE (#4 of 4) will also mark the beginning of 'The Heroic Age.' Marvel released an accompanying image to the title which looks to be the outline of Thor, Captain America and Iron Man.' Or maybe, that is what Marvel wants us to think? These three characters have not fought alongside one another since the ' Avengers: Disassembled,' story arc and long before the ' Civil War' story arc. It has been a long time since 'The Big Three' of the Marvel Universe fought alongside
 Thor #609
 Thor #609
one another, but now it seems all three have resurrected from the dead-some literally. Thor has officially returned in Kieron Gillen's present run on Thor. Writer Matt Fraction is working to reassemble Tony Stark in ' The Invincible Iron Man,' and in the 'Captain America: Who Will Wield The Shield' one-shot we witnessed the return of Steve Rogers.

Does Marvel really have something big planned, or will this simply be the reconciliation of these three Marvel heroes? No doubt, most fans are anticipating (and expecting) that the image of these three characters are in fact Stark, Thor and Rogers, but what if they were not? Who could they be?

Captain America: Who Will Wield The Shield
Captain America: Who Will Wield The Shield
In addition to the Avengers solicitations, Marvel also revealed the upcoming cover of 'Thor' in issue #609 and the return of ' Ragnarok,' the 'Thor' clone. The last time we saw Ragnarok was after he had been repaired in ' The Initiative,'  This means that there are duplicates of each one of these characters. Presently, Norman Osborn is still running around in his ' Iron Patriot' suit which looks a lot like Stark's Iron Man garb. In ' Captain America: Who Will Wield The Shield,' we saw the moving discussion between Bucky and Steve Rogers, after Rogers' body had been possessed by 'Red Skull.' This means we currently have all three of these characters in similar suits.

 Captain America #605
 Captain America #605
Yes, ' The Heroic Age' could very well mark the return of 'Thor' and the reconciliation of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers following what had happened in Civil War, but would it not be more interesting to be deceived? What if the three "heroes" in the solicitation for 'The Heroic Age' were not Thor, Stark and Rogers? Considering the recent solicit for Captain America #605, is it possible that Red Skull could once again possess Steve Rogers body?

The dramatic conclusion of "Two Americas" by acclaimed Cap scribe Ed Brubaker and Luke Ross. The final battle between two Captain Americas will leave each changed...and a new secret enemy will be revealed.

What do you think? What do you think the ' Heroic Age' means for the Marvel Universe? What do you want to see happen? How do you think that the end of SIEGE will shape the Marvel Universe?

Ares is done, there's no coming back from what Sentry did to him
What's happening to Gobbie after Siege? I get the feeling nobody wants him around anymore

I think they are going back to the status quo to tell new stories. Honestly, the true "Avengers" havn't been together for a long time and typically are fighting against huge odds. I do hope they wrap everything up and make it work for them. I doubt the Super Human Registration Act will just go away along with the teams that came out of that. I think that Rodgers will look at it and try to make it work for him and for his side, during Civil War.

I am giving Marvel the benefit of the doubt, that they know what they are doing and the Heroic Age will rock.

THE COVER FOR Captain America #605 IS OF THE GRAND DIRECTOR THE CAP FROM THE 1950S
SEE HIS SHEILD IS SCRACHED UP
THE REAL SHEILD IS COMPLETLEY INDISTUCTIBLE SO THE SCATCHS WOULD BE IMPOSSIBE
PLUS THE STORY ARC STARTING IN TOMORROWS #602 IS ABOUT THE RETURN OF THE GRAND DIRECTOR

I'll check it out in the LCS. But please don't back-track to hard. Thor's new duds kill his goofy ass original one. I can accept Steve..though i prefer Bucky, and The New Iron Man Armor is stylish. Move forward Marvel, it's the one thing i still respect about you.

@Icon: they arent everyones trinity though. There are tons of characters in Marvel U who look up to Reed and Xavier and the likes more than Thor and Iron Man and Cap.  And at the same time, lots of readers see Wolvie Hulk and Especially Spiderman as the bigger characters in the U.
Thats what i mean. That this is Marvel pushing 3 to the front and saying "these are the big boys", and establishing the others as side shows. Which is all fine, just different.

I concur. After all, the name of the story arc is "The Heroic Age", not "The Doppelganger Age".

That is the coolest theory I've ever heard! Norman as Iron Man, Ragnarok as Thor, Bucky as Cap (or Red Skull even).

Mostly, I'm looking forward to seeing Normal and his ilk having their rears handed to them. I'm just concerned that Heroic Age will just wind up being the name of the new event after The Siege.

When one considers it. It's rather surprising how the events from Civil War through out to Dark Reign have had some 'similarities' to real life events. It reminds me of what Benjamin Franklin once said,

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. "

Cyclops and Xavier have always been leaders. Reed has always been the genius guy. Spiderman and Wolverine have always been favorites.   I think they are finaly saying "these are the icons".   the problem of course is that all 3 of these people are officially not people ANYONE can be. Thor is a god. Captain America is a lonewolf super soldier. Ironman is a technology controlling super genius. By establishing these 3 as the icons like this, it will officially break down stan lee's whole "hero's you can relate to feel" to pretty much the same level as DC's.  The idea of guys like Wolverine, Spiderman, and Hulk ( awkward and angry, dorky and goofy, angry and Dumb) being just as big as these 3 before kinda upheld that "relate-ability". But putting a definate set of "heroics" as the posterboys of a "heroic age" paints a clear picture.  This two cents was brought to you by Grim. "

Iron Man, Thor and Captain America have always been the "trinity" of the Avengers though, and what this event will lead to is a coming together of the original Avengers on the same side. That's what these 3 represent and why they are being used like this. It's not to say they are more iconic than Spider-Man, or the X-Men, etc. Also, with the Iron Man, Thor and Captain American movies coming out (and then the Avengers movie) there is going to be a lot of cross-promotion.

Just hope that they don't just brush over all the things that have happened since Disassembled . Not happy about Rogers being back but that was inevitable. I hope Stark becomes a new man and Thor is all good so long as he doesn't  go back to that old costume. Somewhat superficial things at the moment i know but i'll make more of a judgement as time goes on and more information becomes available.

eh? im still looking forward to the reads, but this is what i dont like about having single people manning
company crossovers. they become predictable. this was predictable (okay, and Bendis mentioned it way back when they
were doing Secret Invasion in Wizard Magazine as well). He said at the end of everything they were doing expect to
see a return of the Big Three together. so basically the world has gone down the tubes over the past few events,
now the original icons return and team-up to clean up the mess and forge a better world. yada-yada.

thats cool as well that Thor will finally be fighting Ragnarok, but if you ask me the timing is off and that story is way late.
Ragnarok flew off to fight Thor way back when. what happened, he got lost at that last turn to Albuquerque?

This is making question the shadowy teaser...

If you look at it it seems as though its a statue of the big three... not one to honor them but of passing...

If my theory is true then this means the big three will end up being someone else...

I mean for all we know the next big three might be Bucky, Ragnarok and Osborn!

For it to truely be the "Heroic Age" I think it needs to be the classic versions of those characters, i.e. Thor, Tony Stark Iron Man and Steve Rogers Captain America.
Else it's yet another new status quo.
