How will the end of SIEGE and the launch of 'The Heroic Age' shape the Marvel Universe?
Over the weekend we reported that the Marvel solicitations for the events that would follow SIEGE had been officially released by Marvel. The current SIEGE story arc would mean the end of all titles related to ' The Avengers,' marking the end of ' Dark Avengers,' Mighty Avengers,' and ' Avengers: The Initiative,' for example. While many people are no doubt disappointed that some of the highest selling Marvel titles will be canceled, it does seem to make sense. Why cancel 'The Avengers' books unless there is no longer a reason to have them, right?
The end of SIEGE (#4 of 4) will also mark the beginning of 'The Heroic Age.' Marvel released an accompanying image to the title which looks to be the outline of Thor, Captain America and Iron Man.' Or maybe, that is what Marvel wants us to think? These three characters have not fought alongside one another since the ' Avengers: Disassembled,' story arc and long before the ' Civil War' story arc. It has been a long time since 'The Big Three' of the Marvel Universe fought alongside one another, but now it seems all three have resurrected from the dead-some literally. Thor has officially returned in Kieron Gillen's present run on Thor. Writer Matt Fraction is working to reassemble Tony Stark in ' The Invincible Iron Man,' and in the 'Captain America: Who Will Wield The Shield' one-shot we witnessed the return of Steve Rogers.
Does Marvel really have something big planned, or will this simply be the reconciliation of these three Marvel heroes? No doubt, most fans are anticipating (and expecting) that the image of these three characters are in fact Stark, Thor and Rogers, but what if they were not? Who could they be?
In addition to the Avengers solicitations, Marvel also revealed the upcoming cover of 'Thor' in issue #609 and the return of ' Ragnarok,' the 'Thor' clone. The last time we saw Ragnarok was after he had been repaired in ' The Initiative,' This means that there are duplicates of each one of these characters. Presently, Norman Osborn is still running around in his ' Iron Patriot' suit which looks a lot like Stark's Iron Man garb. In ' Captain America: Who Will Wield The Shield,' we saw the moving discussion between Bucky and Steve Rogers, after Rogers' body had been possessed by 'Red Skull.' This means we currently have all three of these characters in similar suits.
Yes, ' The Heroic Age' could very well mark the return of 'Thor' and the reconciliation of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers following what had happened in Civil War, but would it not be more interesting to be deceived? What if the three "heroes" in the solicitation for 'The Heroic Age' were not Thor, Stark and Rogers? Considering the recent solicit for Captain America #605, is it possible that Red Skull could once again possess Steve Rogers body?
What do you think? What do you think the ' Heroic Age' means for the Marvel Universe? What do you want to see happen? How do you think that the end of SIEGE will shape the Marvel Universe? The dramatic conclusion of "Two Americas" by acclaimed Cap scribe Ed Brubaker and Luke Ross. The final battle between two Captain Americas will leave each changed...and a new secret enemy will be revealed.
