The Invincibly Super Massive Comic Book Podcast of Stuff: Episode 16

Brian Buccellato visits the show once again, this time to talk about the upcoming BLACK BAT series at Dynamite as well as more on the Flash.

Get ready for another episode of The Invincibly Super Massive Comic Book Podcast of Stuff. Each week we get a comic book creator to join and talk about what they're working on. Sometimes they stick around to help me answer comic book questions from the community.

This week's guest is no stranger to the show. We can't keep him away, nor would we ever want to. Get ready for the return of Brian Buccellato!

No Caption Provided

Brian is the co-writer and colorist on THE FLASH (which you should know) and he's also writing the upcoming Dynamite series, THE BLACK BAT. The cover and interior artists were recently announced and the book is slated for May 2013.

You can ask questions on the "Ask G-Man' thread or you can at reply me on Twitter: @GManFromHeck using #AskGMan.

Check out the podcast here.

If you've missed any of the previous episodes, here's what you've missed.

More press for Black Bat, but nothing on the Miss Fury ongoing from Dynamite. Guess Rob Williams need to start talking the series up.

Barbara Gordon had photographic memory since the bronze age (1970s). I remember she used to be in congress but she lost her seat in congress (1980).

@G-Man:Hiya! just a bit of personal feedback.

I might be the only one who thinks this, but putting the interview sessions before the comics and news part of the podcast has caused me to push this podcast further and further back in my playlist on my iPod. When I'm listening to podcasts, I'm typically on the move, driving, working etc and if you're interviewing a creator I'm not interested in, I don't always have the mobility to chop back and forwards in the podcast to find the news and reviews, which are what I downloaded it for in the first place. This normally means skipping out altogether and I don't think I've listened to one since Sean Murphy, (which I loved, because I'm a big Sean Murphy fan, thanks for putting it in!). If it's someone I don't know/like/relate to I tend not to listen anymore, even though I want to hear the second half.

It was such a shame because Batman 17 was one of the biggest deals in comics this year and I really, really wanted to hear your opinions on it! Luckily, today I had the time to find the second part of the 4 hour podcast from last week and guess what? It was one of the best, most heated discussions I've heard on here! With all 3 of you really caring about the book and the outcome, but all from different perspectives, it was incredible. The first 2 hours of that podcast, from what I heard of them, were a grind to listen to, and had very little relevance to the current comics climate by comparison (there was a HUGE subjective argument about hypothetical future Assassins Creed games? wtf!?).

I only bring it up, because the podcast itself was great, and I fear I'm not the only person potentially missing out on the good content due to it being positioned each week behind a rather bulky interview. Like I said, I might be the only one, but I'd be listening a whole lot more if the interview was towards the end, and the current and poignant comic matters were attended to earlier.

Just my 2 cents!

Love the podcast, the website and the forum :)

@djotaku: It's debatable whether or not BLACK BAT actually was created before Batman.

@Manbehindthewires: I completely understand. It's just the nature of this podcast (compared to the other weekly one) is a focus on the creator. It's not all about them as the topic always goes all over the place onto other things. But I hear where you're coming from.

@munkieKONG:

@irmensul:

Black Bat and Batman both debuted in 1939. That version of Black Bat was actually the second incarnation with the first debuting in 1933. Daredevil first appeared in 1964. It's debatable if Black Bat or Batman came first but I don't understand how he could be a copied from Daredevil. And it was never concluded that Black Bat was a "rip off of Bob Kane's early Batman" so I'm not sure where that accusation is coming from. It's even been said that Bill Finger noticed the fins on Black Bat's gloves and then added them to Batman...

A tip for you G-Man, turn the oppacity down on the photographic images you incorporate in the photoshop images, or get someone to get yourself and the guest and import that image in , if its fesible. Or turn the oppacity down on the erazer tool and choose a larger brush, select the photo and go over the image, it'll take some of the lighting out the photo and it'll match the colour balance of the comic imagery.
