Get a glimpse of what's coming up. Possible spoilers.

A lot of that came true (except the Ultron War seems to have been pushed back to make room for AVENGERS VS. X-MEN). In yesterday's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #695, we got another glimpse at the future, courtesy of Julia Carpenter, the current Madame Web.

I reckon that that Peter head poking out of the water is BEN REILLY BEING REBORN. Hast to be. so many people want Ben back not to mention that marvel has been toying with the legacy clone saga for a while now with the scarlet spider series, the who was Ben reilly arc and all the recent jackal appearances.

Ultron War takes place after 'yesterday's x-men' (which is the team in all new x-men) so we can still expect that to happen.

I don´t think that the lower right image are claws, I think that's peter´s stingers and are all bloody cause it has passed a long time since he used them remeber tthat in the 693 issue he mentioned that he "used to have organic web shooters" and even before in the two last parts of spider island is a part when he is talking to kaine and he says that he knows the feeling of dying and comig back with strange powers so now there is more proof that his "other" powers where there but maybe he loose completly some and others are just turned "off" for this time around like the organic web shooters maybe in one more day while he was fighting Ironman and used all his web maybe he atrophied the organs that make the organic webs while forcing them to make all that web being the reason why he returned to the classic web shoorters. And if he had that organic web shooters there´s no proof he lost his stingers maybe they're just going to come out when his around some one dark and caothic although there where a lot of moments tha could happen even in A vs X number 9 and I´m sure that are stingers beacuse if you read Minimum Carnage Alpha your going to see that Kaine uses his stingers and are practicly identical but without the blood and that also discards the possibility of being Kaine´s stingers.

I don't want to step on the toes of those who believe that Hazmat will die during Avengers Arena, but I need to mention something.

Marvel loves to play games when it involves a death of a character, especially when it's a favored character. They love to poke at our emotions, and they would use any number of techniques.

  1. Plant red herrings during interviews and announcements
  2. Make issue covers that show one thing, but something entirely different happens during the issue itself.
  3. Show an apparent death but no body or funeral.

A good example of this is the supposed death of Silver Sable, she apparently died in the Ends of the Earth arc, they showed a panel where she apparently dies, Spider-man says she didn't make it, they create a tribute issue "Avenging Spider-Man #8" to her and Dan Slott goes on to indicate that she died in a interview. After all that I was sooo convinced of her death that I created a forum as a tribute to her.

Now I find out that, according to Julia Carpenter in The Amazing Spider-Man #690, she is still alive and still has things to do.

Since then, I have to see a number of things, before deciding on whether a character died or not.

  1. A death that is meaningful
  2. A body.
  3. A funeral
  4. An official announcement
  5. Dialogue, that says or make it very clear the character died.

Only when I see 3+ of these, specifically a body, is when I sway towards them being truly dead.

A very good example of a good, meaningful death is that of Mattie Franklin, when she died during the Grim Hunt arc.

But here's the thing, Arena is about death. The writer admitted that there will be like 10 or so deaths in the book. Even if we knock off the new characters, the remaining fan favorites are still in there. Mettle and Hazmat are the biggest targets because they are the couple going into the book. They are the ones who will lose the most and that's why they are prime targets.

Another thing, I don't think this book can properly show the consequences of the death to the outside world. I mean, if Runaways die, do we just get one panel of the Runaways at home crying and that's it? Or how about Avengers Academy kids dying? Do we just flash a panel of those kids dying? There's a lot of threads here that can easily be buried in the book. Hopeless is a good writer, but there are a lot of things that could fall apart quickly for this book if he doesn't do these characters justice. Which makes the fact that characters are dying for ARCADE all the more annoying. Arcade is a joke! And now characters could die FOR HIS AMUSEMENT! They won't die as heroes. They will die in a game! That's the depressing thing!

And what if Arcade gets away at the end? What if the kids are about to kill him, and Captain America swoops in saying "We don't kill people." That would make this the most rage inducing story on the planet.

And I disagree. Mattie was a horrible death. She just died out of nowhere, and everyone moved on. You didn't even get J.J.J. to mention her. The man adopted her and we never saw his reaction. That's what really annoys me about comics at times. Character deaths who should reach a lot of other characters aren't shown because they either die to make a story seem big, shock value, or motivation. When Captain America died, they wouldn't let you hear the end of it. When Mattie died, it's full impact wasn't shown because "She's just some small character. Kill her for drama and move on."

Again, Anxious about Arena.

Bottom right corner has a pic of Scarlet Spider from Minimum Carnage Alpha, not sure but I think the picture of Carnage on the left side might be from that as well.

Doesn't really seem like much is being shown that's signifigant most just seems to be generic scenes of heroes, and since one (at least) of theses was taken from another comic it seems like these would most likely be from comics that have already been finished (so probably nothing more then a few months from now at the most)

It was interesting to see in the context of the issue though, hopefully she doesn't die or else its pointless as it give the reader so little information. It really doesn't look like Marvel Now is a reboot but this kind of suggests (at least in the really dramatic fashion in which she got this overload) that another event is imminent, either that or when a Madame Web dies her powers just go supernova for a moment.

Oh joy. Hazmat is going to get killed by X-23.

Have I mentioned that I am not looking forward to Avengers Arena?

And I'm sad that Julia Carpenter is dying. She was the more interesting Spider-Woman because she, well, had things to do than be Hawkeye's blow doll.

That is one of the titles i'm really looking forward to

I really can't take it. I don't want to get a book where my favorite characters could just be killed. It's flat out making me anxious.

I mean, this is one of the covers:

No Caption Provided

I really don't want to read a book where I get invested in characters just to see them die. It just looks like it will depress me more than any other book out there.

God, I don't want a dead Hazmat...

I understand, I just like the general Idea of 'survival of the fittest' and I love X-23. I have a feeling Laura is gonna shine in this book (hopefully). I mean it sucks some will have to die (like hazmat) but I'm pretty sure most if not all will be back eventually.

Thing is, teenage characters who aren't that famous DON'T come back. Wallflower for example. Most of the New X-Men. Skin.

I'm sure it'll be good for X-23 fans. But it's just sad to see them put promising characters on the line like this. You can probably see why this frustrates me.

@punkpuppy3: Thing is, Hazmat is likely to die.

1) She's lovers with Mettle. (Thus kill them for tragedy)

2) They go on and on about Cammi, Runaways and X-23 in interviews, not the AA kids.

3) The first issue is confirmed to make you mad, and the 2nd issue also has a kill.

4) The Braddox Kids will kill known fan favorites, as stated in an interview.

It's just a very depressing sounding book to me!

Maybe I am revealing my lack of knowledge about Marvel, but the only thing I see remotely revealing is possibly multiple Ant Man's...and I am guessing that is just him shrinking or growing. Anybody with more knowledge than me able to fill me in on what I am missing?

@animehunter: I think they're setting up Julia's daughter for something more. There's no reason to develop her relationship to her daughter if they were just sending her off.

My bet? We're looking at the birth of a new superhero because of Julia's death.

I really don't want to read a book where I get invested in characters just to see them die. It just looks like it will depress me more than any other book out there.

God, I don't want a dead Hazmat...

When it comes to Marvel, death can mean a number of things.

  1. She actually does die.
  2. She dies but is reborn.
  3. Death could be a metaphor. She doesn't die, but loses her Madame Web abilities.
  4. She loses anything that connects to the Superhero life, in other words death could mean end of one life path and entering another.

If at the end of it she really does die, my only hope it is a death that means something and has/adds substance to the future of the the Marvel Universe especially ASM. For example, the way Mattie Franklin died (not going to spoil it by mentioning how she died)

Also if she really does die or lose her abilities, who do you think would take up the mantle of Madame Web, or do you believe this will be the end of the Madame Web mantle.

Looks like Ock's finally going to die, Hulk joins shield, possibly Deadpool joining Avengers, Lizard in an iron man suit, Cap gains super feet powers thanks to JRJR, and whats up with Peter's head poking out of that water?

Minimum Carnage will be daft if it's what I think it is. I can see Morbius, RESULT! Doc Oc's robot, that original xmen team that get transported to the future just to bring Jean Grey back, Venom losing it, Hydroman, Scarlet Spider. No big spoilers here as far as I can tell.

For those wondering if she is MJ, actually it is Julia Carpenter. Mary Jane doesn't make an actual appearance in this issue, except for maybe this page of the issue.

I believe this is MJ
