The First Official Photo of Chris Evans as Captain America!

Both his costume AND his haircut look accurate.

Perhaps this will finally put parting back in style?

We’ve seen spy photos and a whole stack of conceptual drawings, but here’s the first official photo of Chris Evans as the sentinel of liberty. Is it wrong that my first thought is that they’ve given him a haircut that’s very appropriate to the 40s?  As for the costume itself, we don’t get to see all of it (where’s the cowl?!) but it looks a lot more believable in this final delivery than it has in the glimpses we've gotten so far. With a clearer look at the thing, now, I notice that it combine a lot of design elements from both the modern and World War II-era redesigns Bryan Hitch did for THE ULTIMATES.

Interestingly, there’s a quote in this article from Chris Evans addressing people’s reservations about an actor playing two major Marvel characters - - reservations Evans had, himself. He actually turned the role down three times before a meeting with Joe Johnston and some Marvel execs finally changed his mind.

So spoke Mr. Evans…

“At the time, I remember telling a buddy of mine, ‘If the movie bombs, I’m f—-ed. If the movie hits, I’m f—-ed!’I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear… I can’t believe was almost too chicken to play Captain America.”

Since we’re on the subject of patriotic, flag-bearing superheroes in this movie, you maniacs would surely like to know that JJ Feild confirmed on his official website that he’ll playing Cap’s across-the-pond ally, Montgomery “Union Jack” Falsworth. Those who lost faith about the Invaders showing up can probably relax, now. I'm just holding out for the Mighty Destroyer.

Also, this EW article confirms that the Cosmic Cube will, indeed, be part of the Red Skull’s master plan, but it’ll be given the more serious-sounding name of “The Tesserect.”

And a big thanks to ckal for the head's up on this.

So I don't part from the commenting streak.... "He looks pretty good"
Honestly I am more hesitant about what the "A" on the mask/helmet will look like...

Still Evans seems (so far) right for the part. Marvel hasn't disappointed yet so this means they probably won't allow this to go down hill on one of their most important character's movies. I trust Marvel!

I'm sorry.  Without getting into the whole who is a real Invader nonsense, the core team of the Invaders is Cap, Namor, Torch with Bucky and Toro.  Union Jack shows up 7 issues in.  Don't get me wrong, I WANT to see Union Jack and Spitfire and the Destroyer too, but to call it the Invaders without Namor and Torch is like calling a Diet Coke, a Coke.  It just is not the same thing.

Well, the hair is right, but the face....

I think it looks promising. I had my reservations when I first heard Evans was playing Cap, but it looks good so far.

Agreed.

Wow my first thought was when i heard Evans was playing was what will happen to the human torch character will they reboot it or what. Now that i see the finished project i cant believe that he is an actual good fit for the role and i didnt think that he would die his hair i thought they would change cap's hair and now that i realize he is a really good match i will go to the movies 3 times to see this all over again just to cap his performance as the American.Star.Soldier or for shorth A.S.S i mean this in the best way possiible no disrespect to cap it may look funny but it could be a possible comic titile if u think bout it. HAHA

This does look better than I had expected of the film. I hope it lives up to expectations

Hm he looks pretty good. i wanna see him with the cowl tho =p

and wheres the Bucky love? i wanna see him too

This looks pretty cool. I remember Reb Brown's motorcycle helmet; and Matt Salinger's fake looking ears. I liked the The Ultimates redesign of Cap. It looked more realistic. I started reading Cap during the Bicentennial. Cap's costume has always been cool. The Ultimates version is even cooler.

Just like the cover with Ryan Reynolds....
It is awsome!!!!
(Why isn't he blonde..)

I think I posted this on Screened's message boards first :p

Anyways, Super excited for this movie.  Glad they have Evans for 6 movies....I really hope that Bucky is awesome and turns into Winter Soldier.

costume looks good , be intresting to see if they include the cowl or not thou

Posted by N7_Normandy

I must say, he does look good as Cap; he certainly fills out the suit

Posted by skaarason

awesome !!!!

Looks pretty badass. I like the battle damaged shield. I sympathize with Evans. Taking on Captain America seem like a lot of responsibility, but I'm interested to see how he goes from a sarcastic wise guy in Fantastic Four to a WWII super solider.

Posted by batman_is_god

Awesome, can't wait to see him with the mask too.

He looks like cap

I'm more worried about the costume with the mask on than off.

It's more accurate than X-Men First Class :P

I am just hoping they keep the Invaders stuff toned WAY DOWN. I'd like to see Cap and Bucky, Union Jack and Spitfire (without the whole nazi vampire/artificial blood thing), maybe Miss America. I don't want to see Namor or Human Torch or Blazing Skull. I think the movie would get too crowded, and some of those guys seem kinda ridiculous for the tone they seem to be setting. Jim Hammond as the Human Torch fit the wacky, fantastical tone of comics at the time, but the plot here seems to be (based on what i've read and gleaned from the videogame footage)  "The Nazi's/Hydra are creating super humans/ cyborg enhanced humans" so having a sentient robot who can light himself... it's like why wouldn't they steal that tech and make an army of THOSE?

Me too.

He looks good! The mask is necessary to make a definitive comment, but he has the physical part down.

Yeah, wish he were blonder...but looks great to me otherwise.

Hi !

Looks like a posterboy...
Sorry, but a nice haircut (even 40's haircut) just can't make the Cap.

Hihane wahste.

@Ninja Nova:
hell yeah, he is!

Awesome but he's suit is totally graphics right?

Posted by 5ive

Hey look its the human torch in Caps uniform, cool lol

Posted by Moomin123

I must admit, Chris Evans with that blonde combover haircut is still looking a little wierd to me with him. But the costume looks badass.

He looks like he's gonna start crying tears of joy any minute...

Yes, it's a similar thing.  When I think of X-Men First Class, I think of the original five X-Men -- anything else, won't really be the First Class to me.  Of course, the movies have pretty much shot that idea in the head, so I don't expect to see that in Vaughn's movie, sadly.

But that would be a great idea!  And a way to work in the Torch without having him up and working and looking like Johnny Storm!  If Hydra was trying to steal the Torch in a prototype stage and Cap was trying to stop them.  Jim Hammond wouldn't have to be actively burning, except for maybe one scene.

I can definitely understand the sentiment behind keeping the Invaders scenes to a minimum.  It IS a Cap movie.  And while I'm biased, I could be quite happy with only a scene or two of the Invaders.  Heck, I'd be happy with a cameo in flashback of the Invaders.  As long as it WAS the Invaders -- which means, Namor, Torch and Cap.  As for the wacky tone of the Original Human Torch ... remember, the Invaders is NOT a Golden Age creation.  It's a 1970s retcon, as such was never as 'wacky' as the original characters in the Golden Age.
