We’ve seen spy photos and a whole stack of conceptual drawings, but here’s the first official photo of Chris Evans as the sentinel of liberty. Is it wrong that my first thought is that they’ve given him a haircut that’s very appropriate to the 40s? As for the costume itself, we don’t get to see all of it (where’s the cowl?!) but it looks a lot more believable in this final delivery than it has in the glimpses we've gotten so far. With a clearer look at the thing, now, I notice that it combine a lot of design elements from both the modern and World War II-era redesigns Bryan Hitch did for THE ULTIMATES.
Interestingly, there’s a quote in this article from Chris Evans addressing people’s reservations about an actor playing two major Marvel characters - - reservations Evans had, himself. He actually turned the role down three times before a meeting with Joe Johnston and some Marvel execs finally changed his mind.
So spoke Mr. Evans…
“At the time, I remember telling a buddy of mine, ‘If the movie bombs, I’m f—-ed. If the movie hits, I’m f—-ed!’I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear… I can’t believe was almost too chicken to play Captain America.”
Since we’re on the subject of patriotic, flag-bearing superheroes in this movie, you maniacs would surely like to know that JJ Feild confirmed on his official website that he’ll playing Cap’s across-the-pond ally, Montgomery “Union Jack” Falsworth. Those who lost faith about the Invaders showing up can probably relax, now. I'm just holding out for the Mighty Destroyer.
Also, this EW article confirms that the Cosmic Cube will, indeed, be part of the Red Skull’s master plan, but it’ll be given the more serious-sounding name of “The Tesserect.”
