The End Of Madman Atomic Comics? NOOOOOO!!!

Sniff, sniff, why is this series ending?

Sigh.  "All good things must come to an end..."  I may have mentioned once or twice that I absolutely love Madman.  Coming this August, Mike Allred and the Gear (Allred's band) are ending the series with a big bang and a musical epilogue.  The final issue of Madman Atomic Comics will wrap up all of the series stories and also mark the release of The Gear's new album, "Left Of Center Of The Universe."  Both the issue and album will feature the return of characters from Allred's other series, Red Rocket 7.

For those concerned with my well being, it's not all bad news.
"MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS marks the end of an era, but definitely not the end of MADMAN at Image," Allred said. "MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS was a really fun time for me, Laura, Madman and friends. Working at Image gave us an unprecedented freedom with the book, allowing us to experiment like never before! I hope fans have enjoyed the trip thus far and will be back with us on the next leg once we get to it!"
The Gear's new album will feature special guest musicians including The Dandy Warhol's Courtney Taylor-Taylor.  The August release will also be a limited edition Direct Market exclusive release in advance of the mainstream edition and will include tracks not available elsewhere.

Madman will return in a "different form" at Image Comics at a later date.

Madman Atomic Comics #17 will be a 32-page comic for $3.50 available on August 19, 2009.  The Gear: Left Of Center Of The Universe is a full length audio CD at $12.99 and there will be a signed edition for $24.99 on August 12, 2009.

There was this one time in band camp...I picked up an issue and tried really hard to get into it...It was pretty cool in an out there sort of way...I realized that I was, well, sort of square...

THAT is disappointing news!!  Blast It all to the Nth Dimension.   It makes me wonder what they mean when " Madman will appear in a "different form" at Image at a later date.

If Allred isn't involved then, I AIN'T HAVIN' IT.    O.K., instead of the band and all that, make a Madman movie.  Decept-O commands it!!

I know Allred is doing one of those Wednesday Comics strips for DC.  I'm thinking he might have some other gigs lined up.  I'm sure another Madman series will eventually come about (that's what I'm telling myself as I sit huddled in the corner cradling myself).  There's no way this will be the last we'll see of him.

G-Man just died a little in side.

My condolences G-Man, the road ahead will be difficult, but hopefully one day you and Madman will be reunited...

on the upside, this means I won't have to wait much longer for the entire series to be collected in trade form so I can give it a whirl in a Madman Atomic Comics reading marathon!

The band's name is The Gear.  They've put out a couple albums and an EP.  They're on iTunes.
