The Dynamic Between Peter and Kitty Changes in STAR-LORD AND KITTY PRYDE

What's changed between Marvel's coolest couple in their new SECRET WARS book?

In Sam Humphries and Paco Medina's LEGENDARY STAR-LORD, the creative team delivered more than an adventure across the galaxy. It delivered a love story between Kitty Pryde and her new beau, Peter Quill. The newest Peter in Kitty's life (she loves men named Peter) has become quite the star since the film Guardians of the Galaxy struck gold in the box office, and right before the SECRET WARS break, the two became engaged at the end of the Black Vortex story line.

So where the heck is Star-Lord and what is up to in SECRET WARS? Well, everything has changed, much like the rest of the SECRET WARS. We thought we'd break down just what is going on with everyone's favorite power-couple, in space.

Writer Sam Humphries teams up with artist Alti Firmansyah and colorist Jessica Kholinne for this new series.

Warning: There's some spoilers for the first issue ahead.

With the vast majority of SECRET WARS tie-ins, we're getting characters from various universes and stories, but the vast, VAST majority of them do not remember a world prior to God Doom's (all praise be onto him) creation.

Where is Peter Quill? Well, he's an entertainer at The Quiet Room, a singer, in fact. What songs is he singing? Disney songs and he can get away with it because no one there knows what Disney movies are. Disney does not exist in Battleworld.

How does Peter know these songs but no one else does?

It turns out that Peter Quill was one of the heroes from the 616 that made it onto Reed Richard's life raft, as their world was ending. However, the reason Peter isn't with the rest of the heroes from the 616 is because he got separated from them.

Because of this, Peter goes by the name Stevie Rogers because Doom's underlings are hunting for him. The book has a pretty weird direction where the reader meets Drax, who has a full head of hair and Peter just seems down in the dumps, but that changes when Kitty Pryde enters the building.

She meets up with Gambit the Collector and it turns out that she has a connection to Doom, in some way. This isn't the Kitty we or Peter know. This is someone completely different and she has a specific agenda.

The scene with Kitty and Gambit really gives the reader an idea for who Kitty is in Battleworld.

Kitty is on the look for items that aren't from Battleworld. Items that have no sort of origin. She receives some hair from Gambit which turns out to be from an unknown origin, and in return, she gives Gambit some knives carved from the bones of Longshot, and they're supposedly lucky, just like he was.

Then, all of the sudden, Peter sees Kitty, interrupts her conversation with Gambit and Gambit ends up in a quick battle with Drax because he thinks it's all a setup.

After a quick battle, Peter plants a big kiss on Kitty. He's missed her and can't separate the fact that this Kitty isn't the one he's engaged to. What happens when you grab a stranger and kiss them? You get punched in the face.

Some of Peter's blood lands on Kitty's device that displays the origin of item. As you may have guessed, Peter is from an unknown origin.

Kitty goes from "angry" to "excited" as she handcuffs Peter and is ready to bring him to Doomgard, the one place Peter has really been trying to avoid. That's what he gets for trying to smooch on a stranger. Looks like Kitty will be leading the way in the next issue.

Although this book is entitled STAR-LORD AND KITTY PRYDE, fans don't get the same two characters from the pre-Battleworld Marvel Universe. Sure, this is the Peter Quill we're all familiar with, but this isn't the Kitty Pryde we know. Now, Peter is captive and being taken to the one place he doesn't want to go because he still has his memories from the pre-Doom created world.

Can Peter win over Kitty? More importantly, is HIS version of Kitty Pryde somewhere out there in Battleworld? What do you think about the direction of the new book?
