'The Dark Knight Rises' Trailer 3

The third and final trailer is now here.

Have you seen the latest trailer for The Dark Knight Rises yet? Through a bunch of viral marketing yesterday, images for the trailer were unlocked until the entire trailer could be seen. The movie is set for release on July 20.

The music sets the tone for a dark and dreary movie. There is a message for all hope being lost. What's interesting is the conversations that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's John Blake character has. What exactly is his role in the movie besides being a police officer?

Check out the trailer for yourself if you haven't already.

I'm excited. Batman and the X-men I think have done the best job of expanding the superhero genre, I've always sort of favored them for that. They don't take the easy route and often it's met with either disbelief or hostility but I think history will look upon them much more favorably. Somewhat like comedy, those that are grounded in some reality usually end up being more timeless.

@HexThis: Really? I think quite the opposite, actually. Not questioning how brilliant X-Men 2 and Nolan's first two Batmans were, because they're fantastic films. However I think that if anything, they pandered to the needs of Hollywood rather than doing something daring. That's why Nolan's trilogy is so successful, because it's been made gritty and realistic and basically a great action-thriller-drama but with a Bat suit.

Not to compare them, because they're both completely different, but I believe The Avengers is the movie that's changed the scope of superhero cinema the most (or shall do). It's a comic book, as a movie. It isn't a loose adaptation, nor does it refrain from suspending the audience's disbelief to a great level as the X-Men and Batman films do and it caters to the fans primarily. It knew what it was and it loved what it was. Mainly because it was written by Joss, who's a lifelong comic books fan, but still. That's my two cents.

As for the trailer, hmmm. Not keen on Catwoman acting all heroic and like the Bat's sidekick which is what she seems to be playing the role of, and her costume is still ridiculous beyond belief, but Nolan will have this in the bag.

Really not sure what I think. I found the first to be not in the spirit of Batman at all, while the second was amazing, but a total "lightning in a bottle" feel. Everything I've seen from this one is leaving me with an uneasy feeling that it'll come nowhere near to living up to the Dark Knight and will be the Spidey 3 of the franchise.

Looks like it will be Good - just NOT Great

I'm sure Nolan will do all of the characters justice - but I still question the choice for BANE as the main protagonist.

And Anne Hathaway is definitely only just ... Ok

I'm going to temper my enthusiasm about this movie & go in NOT expecting to be Thrilled & only HOPE that I will be surprised.

Still feel the Avengers is going to preform better than expectations - International ticket sales are already a very strong indicator.

A theory going around the office is he is going to be Azrael in Nolan's next installment of the "Dark Knight". Considering Nolan stated this was the last of the Wayne trilogy (ie; Bane + Batman + Broken Back = New Batman) and would be doing another trilogy. While yes he is not Michael Lane, it seems creators always have creative liberty when creating the Movie or any other "New" Universe based off the original.

@fodigg:

The plane is just one metaphor for it. But it's still about Batman. He gets his ass kicked and then rises back. We might even see him literally rise from the pit where he seemingly ends up as captive or something.

DAMN MAN Spider-man better pull some serious stuff to be remembered.

I plan to see both movies...but I'm seeing Batman as the taker of the two for July. AND with the GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION version of Arkham City, I believe the 29th of May...MAN...Spider-man who?

I still love spidey and his new movie will make me forget about Spider-Man 3.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Nolan is done with the Batman series and won't be doing another one. The same goes for Christian Bale as well.

Its seeming more and more likely that Batman is going to die in this movie. Catwoman: "You've given them everything." Batman: "Not everything. Not yet." That's some serious foreshadowing, along with all the other hints dropped so far.

I guess Nolan is making sure no one can continue his trilogy.

@CrimsonAvenger: I was reading an article here http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2011/12/12/dark-knight-rises-christopher-nolan-opens-up-about-bane-choice/ where it is hinted that John Blake and inheriting the Batcave, as well as the concept of Bane and Batman's death. This is from Dec, and of course more information may have been made since. I know Bale stated this was his last, but Nolan stated his involvement in the next phase http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/03/29/batman-reboot-christopher-nolan/ with his wife to get prepared for Justice League. Guess we will have to wait and see how the movie plays out and if they leave a nice cliffhanger for another trilogy.

WOW it looks breathtaking!!! Despite all of the criticism she has gotten, I'm really eager to see Miss Hathaway playing the role of Catwoman. This will be the first time, we will see a more realistic approach of the character and not a metahuman with cat powers like we have seen her in Batman returns or Catwoman the movie. (Though I must admit Michelle Pffeifer rules!!!)

I don't think Joseph Gordan Levitt will be nightwing, it's just a different character created for this film. Remember!! Dick Grayson is the youngest in a family of acrobats known as the "Flying Graysons," he watches a mafia boss kill his parents . Bruce Wayne, takes him in as his legal ward, eventually as his crime-fighting partner, Robin XD

Joseph Gordon Levitt is John Blake not nightwing, did you read the article before Tony posted the video?

I've heard rumors about John Blake going by the code name Azrael.

That's interesting. Probably just a little Easter egg for fans though, right?

@PsychoKnights: He's allowed to take liberties... just like Avengers takes liberties and every other superhero movie does. They are a separate universe to the comics, just as within the comics there are separate universes. Just as there is Ultimate and Earth-616 there's New Earth and the Nolanverse.

@SUPER-MAN 23: I did read the article. I was thinking that John Blake may be a misnomer because I'm getting a very nightwingish feel from the way JGL is playing the character and it would make sense if you remove his time as Robin from the Nightwing mythos.

It will all come back to Liam Neeson's first interaction with Bruce Wayne, dealing with "becoming more than just a man" and the like.

The character of John Blake is probably John Blake, but an amalgam of smaller portions of various comic book characters. In the Nolanverse, there isn't any Robin or Dick Grayson or anyone. For all we know, Gotham City might've been under siege for YEARS and John Blake's parents/wife/someone significant could've been killed in the initial onslaught. So he's determined to make a difference and becomes an Officer. Who knows? The point being: he doesn't need to be someone prominent from the comics at this point in the Nolan Batman trilogy.

Most likely, the film climaxes with Batman/Bruce sacrificing himself in some manner -- either his life, or his ability to stay as Batman -- to the point where John Blake is chosen as his successor. Because the idea of Bruce devoting everything into Batman pushes Batman into that "legend" that Neeson/Al Ghul first taunted Bruce with.

What you'll have is the film closing out on Blake Batman donning the cape and cowl for the first time, the spotlight painting the underside of gotham's cloudcover, and the notion that Batman has become the legend Bruce always envisioned and the hero Gotham will always have.
