The Comic Vine 2012 Movie Awards

From Best Villain to Best Director, you can now help determine which comic book movie will take home the most wins!

Comic book movies have come a long way over the past couple of years. Once viewed as cheesy, they've now flourished (for the most part) and become something the general audience adores. While not every film is a financial success (here's lookin' at you, Dredd), 2012 proved there's still plenty of hope for comic book movies. From director Christopher Nolan concluding his epic Batman trilogy to The Avengers breaking the box office, this was a great year for heroes on the big screen.

Now it's time to reflect on these fantastic films and declare where each film excelled. But, we the staff aren't going to pick the winners. You will help decide which films get praise! I present to you... the very first COMIC VINE MOVIE AWARDS!

Participating is very simple. Check out each of the following links and vote! Winners will be announced next Monday (01/21/13).

It is both ridiculous and fantastic that there were enough comic-based movies released this year to create such a list.

NERD GLORY!!!

@Jonny_Anonymous: It's not underrated just not alot of people went to see it.

Those who did though have nothing but great things to say about it, i havn't met one person who saw it who didn't like it

It was definitely an 8/10 movie!

Posted by fables87

Looks like the Avengers might win this battle.

Hmm whats a better way of saying "nobody went to see it but really should have"?

Posted by GothamRed

Well that's done, results are looking fine thus far, disagree with some but that's bound to happen when you have this many categories.

Posted by Bonzi161

could not bring myself to give any love to Nolan, i was just not a fan of his bat-verse (not that there were not good bits or individual people who did good, but as a whole i was not a fan)

Posted by pspin

You guys should definitely do more things like this. A staff choice awards or a peoples choice awards type thing would be cool for the best stuff (comic, action figure, story arc) of the year .

Posted by Jonny_Anonymous

all this talk of Dredd is making me want to reread Trifecta

Posted by sora_thekey

John Carter FTW! (Okay, maybe not but that was a great movie!)

Wish Dark Knight Returns p. 1 was up for best movie :(

Posted by KnightRise

Should I be objective or just pick my favorites??

Posted by zackattack529

Uggh you know batman will win all the awards because comicvine is filled with alot of Nolan-marks. But if we are being honest:

Best actor in a leading role - Karl Urban ( I don't even remember sly playing dredd anymore)

Best Actress In a leading role - Anne Hathaway ( I love how people doubted her in the role but after the movie she delivered big time! )

Best Villain - Loki ( better overall villain, however I liked Bane's performance but Bane didn't have as much depth as he had in the comics, a little dissapointed and we knew more about Loki in the movies because of thor and he had his own motives while Bane was just a typical league of shadows gebral. most of his team did all the work his fight with batman was only interesting. Loki wins for many reasons)

Best Director - Joss Whedon ( Im still pset till this day he rippped up tranformers 3 battle in the city scene but he did do a better job overall as a diector for marvel's most important movie and way less plot holes than Nolans)

Best Supporting character - Clark Gregg/Phil Coulsen (really cool character and great performance in all the marvel movies, awesome how marvel incorporated him into the comic universe.)

Best fight- Spider-man Vs The Lizard (very underated figh scene, alot will criticize it because it was 95% CGI, but still overall great and entertaining effort)

Best Special Effect - Avengers, ( But I also like what Spiderman has going for it.)

Best script - Avengers, (best aspect of the whole movie)

Best Animated Movie - Justice League: Doom, (Has it's flaws but better overall movie especially quality.)

Best movie - Dredd ( Avengers will get comicvines vote for succeeding with Marvel's most impirtant movie but you cannot deny Dredd was better. sorry folks, had to hit you with a bit of truth.)

It looks like mostly its between Avengers and Batman at this point.

Best Actor in a Lead Role: Christian Bale as Batman

Best Villain: Loki

Best Director: Joss Whedon

Best Fight: Avengers vs the aliens (don’t know what they are

called)

Best Special Effects: Avengers

Best Animated Movie: Justice League Doom or The Dark Knight

Returns: Part One

Best Movie: Avengers. I like Batman but The Dark

Knight Rises is the worst batman movie ever. You can’t understand Bane and its

like Christopher Nolan wants to end his Batman movies, so he put a bunch of

crap together and call it a movie. Disappointed on the movie has turned out to

be.

Nice idea!

Posted by yo_yo_fun

Just voted, but somehow I feel like there's no point, The Avengers will win all of the categories (sigh).

Posted by crazyflashfan11

DONE!!!!!!!

Posted by ThePRez

You left best 3D movie

  • The Avengers
  • John Carter
  • The Amazing Spiderman
  • Dredd
Posted by papad1992

I'm done... mostly I voted for The Dark Knight Rises!! Best movie ever!!! And I'm not that big of a DC fan!

Posted by Bestostero

how fun, gonna vote now lol

Posted by Tony_Shark

I would vote for the Dark Knight Rises, but some many plots holes. Seriously.

Avenger's script is also way better. Funnier, and full inside jokes.

I know the feel bro.... it's a miracle it can't win Best Animated Movie

Posted by evilvegeta74

Voted all Avengers, and Justice League animation was good.

Edited by ComicStooge

The Avengers is gonna sweep pretty much everything, I bet, being the overrated, overhyped, overwanked movie it was.

Posted by dboy4dashing

Awesome!

we should have more of this.

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

This was fun ^_^

Posted by Miss_Garrick

This is a great idea, Comic Vine! I'm voting now!

great idea

Posted by Mezmero

Finally watched Dredd and it was excellent. I think the Avengers still deserve to sweep the awards because it did the impossible and made a super hero team movie work. Dredd is a fantastic sci-fi action movie but there have been plenty of good ones through the years.

Posted by monkeyonurback_

poor dredd just wasn't given a fair chance..avengers is cleaning up anyways and is gonna win every thing! regardless, this is a fantastic idea!
