The Best Stuff In Comics: 10-20-14

This is where we present to you, the other best stuff besides the best covers, best story arcs, and best humane mousetraps.

It's been a crazy week and we're trying something new here. Normally this has been a VIDEO FEATURE for over one hundred episodes. Because I've been editing a ton of video content from NYCC this past week, I simply didn't have time to shoot and edit another video (there's still more NYCC content coming). I've toyed with the idea of testing a text version to see how it goes. Let me know in the comments below.

Each week we take a look at the other Best Stuff you might have missed.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #35

Best Godfather Moment

When the former Tim Drake, Barbara Gordon, and Jason Todd decide they need to try to follow Batman to Apokolips, they figure Cyborg is their only hope. But how can they convince him to help when the Justice League was against the idea of Batman chasing after Damian's body?

Best Star Wars Quote

We often see moments or quotes from Star Wars movies. This one makes it perfectly clear what it's from. It happened when they were discussing how to find Batman's location on Apokolips.

Justice League #35

Best Missed Opportunity

When Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor are announcing their partnership, the entire Justice League is there in their civilian guise, watching and waiting. With Captain Cold standing with Bruce and Lex, Barry Allen fights the urge to do something.

Best Battle of the Speeches

We know Lex is full of hot air. After going on about wanting to make the world a better place, Bruce takes his turn and describes a touching moment involving his father's work and almost even sheds a tear during. It's clear that Batman can defeat anyone, even when it comes to giving a more touching speech.

Q2: THE RETURN OF QUANTUM AND WOODY #1

Best DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Moment

You might remember that scene when the Batmobile makes its debut in Frank Miller's DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. We see a similar scene in Q2: THE RETURN OF QUANTUM AND WOODY.

Daredevil #9

Best Reason Matt Murdock Won't Be Writing the Next Great Novel

Matt Murdock's girlfriend's father offered him a book deal to write his life story. Kirsten and Foggy try to point out that while he can be very articulate, when it comes to having to write things, it's another story.

MILES MORALES: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #6

Best 2-Page Spread

There's a Peter Parker running around this comic. But isn't he dead? We get a nice look at who Spider-Man was in the Ultimate Universe. I'm a sucker for these montage spreads. It's almost a guarantee they'll make the Best Stuff list.

Best Use of a Couch

When the conversation is interrupted and an attack is about to begin, Miles asks Mary Jane if he could borrow her couch.

SUPERGIRL #35

Best Odd Definition of "Normal"

Jason Todd needed to meet with Supergirl and has his reputation to maintain. He broke into the place of a family Kara cares about and waved some threats around. She doesn't take it too well.

SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN #16

Best Disembodied Impression of KISS

Throughout this series there's been a power play going on with Silvermane's head. As they prepare for a meet to claim leadership of the Maggia, someone decided to dress up Silvermane's head...

AVENGERS AND X-MEN: AXIS #2

Best Lecture of Humilty

The non-stop attack by Red Onslaught (Red Skull mixed with Onslaught's power) continues. The heroes have faced a devastating blow against their forces. But of course, the battle isn't over yet. Tony Stark gives a short but to the point speech on why the fight isn't over.

EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE #5

Best Neon Genesis Evangelion Cameo

It's another issue and that means another look at an alternate universe Spider-Man-ish character. In the class of Peni Parker, we see some familiar looking classmates.

DEADPOOL'S ART OF WAR #1

Best Way to Enjoy Comic Stories Sometimes

Deadpool gets it. Sometimes you just need to let go of continuity and just sit back and enjoy the story.

BATWOMAN #35

Best 'What the Heck?!?' Moment

Sometimes comic stories are presented in media res. It can usually catch you off guard and part of the fun is finding out how the heck the characters got to that point. With Batwoman, we saw quite the cliffhanger in issue #34. Then we had the FUTURES END isssue. Now...she's in space?!? Bring it on!
