'The Avengers' to Cross One Billion Dollars

The hit movie has made an estimated $373.2 million domestic, $628.9 million international.

Everyone's talking about The Avengers. Last week we saw it successfully smashed box office opening records with a $207.4 million opening weekend, the biggest domestic debut of all time. Tickets sales haven't slowed down too much as it's expected to cross the $1 billion threshold at the global box office on May 13, its 19th day in release. As one of only 12 films in history to gross $1 billion, it joins Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Alice in Wonderland, Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides on Disney’s list of billion-dollar films.

Everyone's happy including Robert Iger, Disney's Chairman and CEO. He's stated that the franchise will continue with "great stories and compelling characters for years to come."

So obviously we will be seeing more:

On May 8, Disney announced that a sequel to Marvel’s The Avengers was in development, following last month’s announcement that a follow-up to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger will be released April 4, 2014. A sequel to last summer’s Thor is scheduled for release November 15, 2013, and the third installment of the hit Iron Man series, which has earned over $1.2 billion worldwide, will arrive in theaters May 3, 2013.

Let's hope we get an official release date for The Avengers 2 soon.

Look at them all. They're like "We're so paid" XD

Awesome! I'm happy to see that they mentioned Iron Man 3 as the third film in the "franchise" and not the trilogy.

Alice In Wonderland broke $1 billion!?!

Edited by Hot_Karl

Definitely eating my words right now. Said that Avengers wouldn't even make more money in America than Hunger Games. Couldn't have been more wrong. Congrats to them. How high is the ceiling for this one though? $1.6 billion worldwide? Dark Knight probably won't be able to touch that but I think it'll still be a close match in America, at least.

Yes, unfortunately enough. Burton + Depp + recognizable property + first big 3D movie post-Avatar= lowered standards/ $1 Billion in ticket sales.

Wow, people already complaining about Avengers 2. Haha. Anyways, amazing movie. I look forward to future installments.

::Golf Clap:: Bravo, bravo!

Now lets see if this guy can come close to that record on June 8th. And kudos to anyone who knows what this is and what movie I'm referring to...

P.S. I'm just joking mind you...I'm just excited Avengers is doing so well and that this movie is on its way in less than a month...

Seriously?...Alice in wonderland is on that list???

Posted by ArtisticNeedham

Thats so great. If Marvel knew what was good for them they would hire back Joss Whedon as the director of the sequel fast before his price went up.

Posted by jhazzroucher

I'm actually seeing Avengers film to become the third highest grossing film of all time, just behind Avatar and Titanic.

This Movie wouldn't have made so much if tickets weren't freakin 10$! And that's just regular screening.

Um Prometeus?

Posted by TheMess1428

They said they have 5 movies in the works but only announced 3.

1. Iron Man 3

2. Thor 2

3. Captain America 2

4. Unknown

5. Unknown

Candidates: Black Widow, Ant-Man, Hulk 2, and Avengers 2.

Sidenote: I read an article (and can't remember where) that said that Marvel claims they won't use Hulk for anything other than a member of the Avengers in the Avengers movies from now on. Which kinda sucks.

Wow. Could you be more of a Marvel fangirl?

TDKR will be awesome and everyone I talk too is excited about it. Like people who know nothing about comics.

Posted by Zeeguy91

@TheHeat: And your reasoning for that is.....?

Oh yeah, a movie that's the sequel to what is hailed as one of the best movies of all time and as a candidate for the best comic book movie of all time isn't going to break $1 billion in box office revenue...yeah, I can definitely see the logic in that.

Posted by TheHeat

@Zeeguy91: Is your butt hurt from what I said? Can you please tell me which records TDKR will break? That is what is suggesting.

Posted by lronMan

I'll be seeing Avengers for a third time. Best comic book movie since Kick-Ass.

No.

Sure, why not? I wilI admit that I actually enjoyed Batman Begins more though,

Wasn't it a month ago that all of the records were being broken by Hunger Games? The geeks shall inherit the earth!

Wow. Seriously? Grow up.

And there's a very good chance that it will break into the top 10, given the enthusiasm for the movie and the fact that its prequel was such a success.

@Zeeguy91: How is that record-breaking as @CODYSF suggested? He said that TDKR "is going to break records up the roof."

So, which records are these?
