So THR’s released the cast list for that direct-to-video toon adapation of ALL-STAR SUPERMAN a while back. Seeing this list, I’m reminded how, in a roundabout way, these DC Animated projects have been giving the fans the chance to get their cake and eat it, too, in respect to fantasy casting calls for their favorite characters. We’ve already gotten to hear Adam “Jayne” Baldwin and Kyle “Paul Muadib” MacLachlan in the SUPERMAN/DOOMSDAY and NEW FRONTIER movies, respectively… now it’s James Denton’s turn. Considering how those rumors about Jon Hamm playing Superman persist in the face of the strong unlikelihood that the MAD MEN star will ever slip into a pair of tights, I think it’s maybe an inevitability that he’ll eventually voice the man of steel one of these.
So who's in the cast? Let's take a look at each one... == TEASER ==JAMES DENTON - - Superman
His biggest role so far has been as the plumber in DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES - - acting with former Lois Lane, Teri Hatcher.
CHRISTINA HENDRICKS - - Lois Lane
I'll always know her first as the duplicitous thief Safron in FIREFLY, but she's best known for her part on MAD MEN (which is a bit fitting given the aforementioned Jon Hamm rumors.)ANTHONY LAPAGLIA - - Lex Luthor
His roles most relevant to a genre fans are in the penguin toon, HAPPY FEET, and the owl toon Zack Snyder's putting out next month, LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS.
ED ASNER - - Perry White
He's had many roles over his decades-long career, but probably the most relevant to mention here was his turn as J. Jonah Jameson, that other newspaper mogul who runs afoul a superhero on a regular basis. He voiced him in the 90s SPIDER-MAN cartoon.
It'd figure that Clark Kent's mom would also have appeared on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. She hasn't done much genre work before this, but you may recognize her from SIX FEET UNDER and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.
Rounding out the cast are Linda “Velma” Cardellini, Arnold “Imhotep” Vosloo and Matthew Gray "Simon the Chipmunk" Gubler in unspecified roles. You can see their pics from left to right below.
Anyway, with all of that out there, what do you Comic Vine maniacs think of these casting picks? Would you want any of these actors playing these characters in live-action?
