The ones which call themselves Turtles are back on television with another impressive television episode! 'Metalhead' revolves around Donatello and his sudden realization of "Hey, why am I using a stick against advanced alien robots?!"
Just like the other episodes, 'Metalhead' is consistently hilarious. There's some downright brilliant humor surrounding Donatello's powerful but clunky creation. Every scene of the Turtles swiftly and silently leaping across rooftops is pure gold and extremely cool to watch. Throw Metalhead into the mix and the end result delivers a good laugh as each footstep has the impact of a T-Rex, completely defeating their focus on stealth. The segment with April on the rooftop is also a gut-buster as Donatello not-so-smoothly admires her through the bot.
If you're loving the style of action in the show, this episode will not let you down. The team fully utilizes their weapons against the Kraang, having no reservation to slice them apart and stab into their robotic heads. Seeing his teammates defeat the alien robots with ease as he strikes them with his stick is precisely what gives the purple Turtle his hysterical epiphany. When he goes to Splinter about his weapon woes, the resulting conversation is sure to give a good laugh as well. Six foot staff isn't good enough? How about a seven foot staff!
Kraang speak makes its return and doesn't disappoint. The innovative method of talking is plentiful in this episode yet never feels redundant. Mikey's remark on one of their lines is sure to give you a solid laugh, too. It's just one of the many examples of how surprisingly sharp the writing is.
Donny's need for a new weapon feels odd since we've previously seen him modify his staff to include a retractable blade. It makes me wonder why he doesn't include that once again, seeing as that would allow him to easily slice and dice the Kraang. Regardless, I'm happy he didn't opt to go down that road because Metalhead was a highly entertaining and hilarious creation. The show continues to impress, I just hope we'll get to see more of Shredder's plot in the next episode!
