Superman: Red Son Motion Comic

The 'Elseworlds' story is available for download.

DC is in the midst of another comic in their series of Motion Comics.  Some have been good (Batman: Black And White) and others have been okay (Watchmen).  Their current 'book' that you can get on iTunes is Superman: Red Son, written by Mark Millar and Dave Johnson.  You may have read the " Elseworlds" book already.  I have to admit, I have not.  For me, that could be a deciding factor in whether or not I get this myself.  So far, three 'episodes' are available.  They each average around six minutes and are only $0.99 each.  Or you can get the 'season pass' and pay $9.99 for the entire series.  That's probably cheaper than trying to buy the trade paperback.

If you're curious what it looks like, here's the trailer from Warner Brothers Online:

So what do you think?  I know people have mentioned in the past that they don't like the motion comics so much.  I'd imagine there must be people buying them for DC to continue making them (I believe they also have a Batgirl one coming next...or was it Supergirl?).  I agree that you can't replace the traditional comic book experience.  But I also like this digital format.  It's nice for something different.  Do you think this is worth paying ten bucks to have on your computer and iPod/iPhone?

I’m not really into the motion comic thing. Are we so lazy that we can’t turn the page and imagine the voices anymore? No wonder Americas become so fat.

But seriously, that was surprisingly cool. But then again, that’s also my favorite part of Red Son. Batman taking on and punking Superman will never get old. Never! There’s no way I’d buy this though. I already own Red Son anyway.

Seriously G-man...you MUST read Red Son.

The way the characters move in motion comics make me think of Adult Swim too much for me to take seriously.

I know, I'm weird

I know I should read it.  It was at a time when I was just burnt out on the Elseworlds book and didn't want to pay for yet another.  I've heard great things about it (obviously) but just never got around to picking it up.

As far as these motion comics, I don't quite get why people are so against them (each time I bring them up).  I think it's a nice change but I wouldn't want to give up the traditional format.  I suppose the great thing is that we have an option.  No one is saying that you have to get the digital format.  It's just an enhanced version of an existing book.

i think they did it well.  It's kind of like those old marvel cartoons.  The ones where the Hulk flew,

What really blows is that I have tried to access this stuff at the iTunes store but they aren't available in Canada!  IS there an alternate way to get them?

Sorry, the tactile feel of a book/graphic novel/comic is still > than a motion comic.  Always will be.

Not quite sure about that.  They did release the Watchmen motion comic on DVD.  You'd think Warners would do the same for their other stuff to deal with this sort of thing.  Perhaps it's due to some legal matters and maybe it's still in the works.  I'll ask my Warners rep and see if I can get an answer.

I could not help laughing at first it reminded me of SeaLab2021, but love the way attacks deliver in this digital format, but I wonder if there will be any possibility of some new original stories being told this way.

It was interesting but I think it was strange how Batman was Russian too.

Red Son is kick ass

never read a motion comic, i might just check this out

are these 100% true to the story, or is this like the DC Animated movies and simply a re-imagining?

Any time Bat is beating the Super Boy scout is a good thing and a good read cant wait

Motion comics strike me as a way to break into the market of ipod downloads. Seems more like a money making idea then trying to tell a good story. I think marvel is planing something as well.

What was with Batman's voice, he should sound like Kevin Conway with a Russian accent but instead he just sounds horrible. The motions were great though, some of the best I've seen.

You should give them a shot, some are excellent. Such as Batman: Black and White, great voice acting and stories.

that was terrific...

how am i tired of russian characters speaking english with strong Russian accent..that is so lame..

no more "comrade Petrovich" or "youRR gRReat vizion, Syuparman"..not every russian speak SO bad english. these versions of batman and superman sounds like in very cheap movie from 80-s. i think that's stupid..

and there is now way i'll buy this piece of crap.

That's probably cheaper than trying to buy the trade paperback.

yeah, right..who cares about the quality XD

Well.... to me it looks AWESOME! But yet again Motion comics seem to be in a infantcy. So, who knows in time they could approve.

I really like motion comics. Some of them are aweome! It's true that there are a few that aren't very good. Which is fine, because there are TONS of crappy paperback comics out there too.

I'm judging the medium on the good ones (Batman, Spider Woman, Broken Saints), not the bad ones (X-men and Iron Man).

A friend of mine went to a comic store, had a look at a few and then told me next time he saw me "Comics are crap"

We went straight to my house and I got him reading Wolverine issues 90 - 112 (Lara Hama written) and whatdyaknow!? He changed his mind.

We'd all agree that bad comics don't mean "Comics are crap" same goes for motion comics.
