'Star Wars Rebels' - Meet Chopper

Check out the new droid with an attitude in the upcoming Star Wars TV show.

Droids play an important role in the Star Wars films. They're often seen in the background doing different tasks. Of course we know how crucial both R2-D2 and C-3PO were to the Rebel Alliance. The droids may 'live' to serve their masters, but not all of them will always put them before their personal needs.

Meet Chopper, a lazy and cranky astromech droid.

Chopper is a new character in the upcoming Star Wars Rebels animated series.

"If Artoo is the family dog,” said Dave Filoni, executive producer of the show, “Chopper is the cat." Chopper is an essential crew member of the Ghost, tasked with keeping the starship running and operable for its band of heroes. In reality, thanks to his many “unique” upgrades and customizations, no other alien, human, or droid could handle the job.

The design of Chopper, a.k.a. C1-10P, takes cues from early Ralph McQuarrie concept art for R2-D2, especially the expressive arms that fold out of his head. As "Star Wars Rebels" takes place four years prior to the events of "Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope," Chopper’s retro look creates an aesthetic continuity with droids of the original trilogy.

Check out this behind the scenes video to find out more.

Star Wars Rebels is set to premiere in fall of 2014. The first episode will be a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

Sorry I don't take recommendations from people in cowboy hats

@jonny_anonymous: The guy's pretty brilliant. I dug the Clone Wars for what it was.

Looks cool...still, why do I have the sudden urge to say, "Get to the Chopper!!!"

If he were taller, he could have been an R4.

I love the vocalizations of Chopper, they seem to fit his personality to a T.

I'm getting pretty excited fro this show!

Somebody obviously doesn't live in the west.

I can dig it! I'm just glad things are starting to move away from the Clone Wars stuff FINALLY.

Is this starting to remind anyone else of "The Black Hole"?

I am both excited and nervous about this show. Clone Wars was awesome most of the time but we had characters to really latch on to from the beginning. Anakin was done much better in the cartoon than the prequels and Obi-Wan is always awesome. Ahsoka took a couple seasons to really grow as a character but being alongside Anakin most of the time helped to distract from that. Plus, the show brought back Darth Maul which was just amazing. I'm just hoping they are able to create likable characters because the main cast won't have the benefit of being recognizable/likable from the get-go.

So, is he an R5 or a C1 (whatever that is)?

I'm worried about it being on Disney, if its anything like the Clone Wars was on I don't want them to kidify it

@jonny_anonymous: I don't think you should have that type of judgement considering Star Wars is a Sci-Fi Western and Western have cowboys. So you're not making any sense.

so will there be any jedi (on the run) ? or is Vader the only lightsaber wielder on this show?

The main villain will be a Sith Inquisitor. So there's one lightsaber for ya!

Well how can I take someone in a skirt seriously?

See how silly that sounds?

Kilts and Cowboy Hats are two of the most iconic manly outfits there are. Slap on a flannel shirt and some work boots and you have yourself a proto-typical ultra man.
