Star Trek Movie Prequel Comic Coming

To Boldly Go Where We May Have Been Before

The new Star Trek trailer hit last week and it seems pretty clear that most people are pretty psyched about it, including myself.  Earlier this year IDW scored the licensing rights to Star Trek.  This is pretty huge for them.  IDW seems to fly under the radar.  They have some good licenses and do a great job with their titles.  I think because they're not one of the 'big two,' people often miss out on some great comics. 

With the new Star Trek movie coming outon May 8, 2009, IDW is setting out to get everyone prepared for the excitement by publishing Star Trek: Countdown, a four issue mine-series tied to the movie.  The first issue will be released in January.  J. J. Abrams is presenting the story which will be plotted by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and written by Tim Jones.  David Messina will be doing the covers.

“There was a lot of back and forth about doing this project, how to do it, what it would be about, but what all parties agreed on was that we needed the right story and that it needed to matter. It had to count both on its own merits and when read in conjunction with the new movie,” said series editor Andy Schmidt. “I couldn’t be happier with the project and what it means to the overall Star Trek franchise!”

"Star Trek: Countdown lays the groundwork for what happens in the movie," said Roberto Orci. "It's our way of passing the baton from the Next Generation characters and their movies to the new film."

Star Trek: Countdown is sure to be in huge demand as eager fans look for a sneak peak into director J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek vision!

I would strongly suggest that you let your local comic shop know that you are interested in this comic as soon as possible.  Comic shops have been easing up on their orders lately and with the excitement over the movie, it's possible you could miss out on this if you don't get the series added to your pull list.
