Stan Lee Talks About The Obama Cover & More

Stan tells the Washington Post his feelings and information on his other projects.

I think people are still talking about the Spider-Man/Obama cover.  It was a fun story.  My only wish was even though the rest of the issue was decent, I wish they did something really kick-ass to give all the people that pick up this issue a reason to come back.  Don't get me wrong, it was a nice story with Peter and Betty Brant.  Just nothing earth-shattering.

More importantly, what did Spider-Man's creator, Stan Lee, think?  Stan talked to the Washington Post and gave his thoughts.
It was an obvious thing to do. It was the editors there [at Marvel] who made the decision. I think it's great. I had read [recently] that the president-elect was a big fan of Spider-Man and Conan, that he reads them -- maybe he still reads them, I hope!

When I read that, I autographed a Spider-Man poster and sent it to him. I fully understand that he probably hasn't had time to respond to me yet, and that's okay. [Laughing.] He might be busy.
He also said he'd like to be made Secretary of Comics if Obama was looking for a way to thank him for the poster.

There was the news at the beginning of the year about Stan giving his daily Spider-Man strip a Brand New Day treatment (which was later revealed to just be a flashback to before the marriage).
To tell you the truth, I realized that they're doing that with the "Spider-Man" comic book storyline, so I thought: Just for fun, let's go with that storyline in the strip, too.

I may just do it for one storyline or two. Then [when we revert back], we'd run another note like we did [this month] to level with people. When we do go back probably to a great extent will depend on reader feedback. We've always depend a lot on reader feedback. I like to say that one reason I wear glasses is because I read every fan letter.

Check out what else he's working on, his thougths on Heath Ledger being awarded a Golden Globe and what he'd like for the next Spider-Man movie.

Spider-Man and Conan.  Quite the combo, huh?  Kind of both extremes.  It's great though.  I'm all for Stan being made Secretary of Comics.  Let's hope comics continue to get more attention.

I think if anyone in the world deserves a spot like that it's Stan the Man. It's great when you find out that some of the most influential people are comic fans too. So much for the stereotypes that haunt us.

Awesome, he reads Conan. I had no idea.

That being said, Stan rules, and make him the Secretary of Comics! He's the most deserving of the position, IMO. I look forward to seeing the Spidey comic strip in the papers.
