Spoiler: Marvel Reveals the New Ultimate Spider-Man

Marvel announces who is crowned Ultimate Spider-Man in tomorrow's issue of Ultimate Fallout. There will be spoilers, and you've been warned.

Warning: Spoilers... Seriously. If you remember, back in June, Marvel announced that they will kill off Ultimate Spider-Man, but have someone else take his place. The death and replacement was announced during the Death of Spider-Man story arc, before Spidey was officially killed off. Even though everyone knew it was coming, it was still a bummer to see Marvel spoil it before the fans got to read it for themselves.

Today, once again, Marvel sent out a press release spoiling a big moment in their books just one day before the issue is released and it involves the identity of the new Ultimate Spider-Man.

== TEASER ==

Ultimate Comics Fallout #4, which will be in stores tomorrow, was where the name and identity of the new Ultimate Spider-Man was going to be announced, until Marvel's press release this morning.

That’s right, for the first time ever, someone other than Peter Parker will be Spider-Man! But, after the death of Peter Parker, who will rise up to defend the Ultimate Universe? Meet Miles Morales, a seemingly normal teenager from New York who will soon discover that with great power comes great responsibility…and even greater danger! But just what are the secrets behind Miles’ shocking abilities? What’s his connection to the original Spider-Man? And just why does he wear that costume? Courtesy of superstars Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Ultimate Comics Fallout #4 begins the story that’ll have everyone talking for years to come!

Miles Morales is the new Spider-Man? So why make the change? What will be the big deal with this new Spider-Man? Marvel Editor in Chief, Axel Alonso, has the scoop:

When the opportunity arose to create a new Spider-Man, we knew it had to be a character that represents the diversity—in background and experience—of the twenty-first century...Miles is a character who not only follows in the tradition of relatable characters like Peter Parker, but also shows why he’s a new, unique kind of Spider-Man—and worthy of that name.

Ultimate Comics Fallout #4, written by Brian Michael Bendis, Jonathan Hickman, and Nick Spencer and drawn by Sara Pichelli, Salvador Larroca, and Clayton Crain, will hit the newsstands tomorrow, 08/03/11. To see the continuing adventures of Miles Morales, check out Ultimate Comics Spider-Man coming out on 9/14/11 written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Sara Pichelli.

Although it's cool to see a new Spider-Man, Marvel seems to be spoiling their own books a bit too much recently. What do you guys think of the new Spider-Man? Is Marvel spoiling their own books too much?

Cool beans.

In b4 the hardcore comic books fanatics start complaining.

I look forward to this. Changing the character and making his ethnicity different won't change the spirit of the book. I support change.

Intersting choice.  I think this will be well worth picking up to see.

literal laugh out loud...

Diversity is awesome, but I could care less about the ultimate universe, wake me when they do this in 616 lol

Posted by CaptainCyke

I just wished if they were going to add in an all new character then they would do Miguel O'Hara.  Could have been an interesting way to bring 2099 into the Ultimate Universe. Also would have served the "diverse" purpose.

Posted by Dernman

You want to know how to make a non Peter Parker Spiderman so you can have more diversity without doing something so wrong.

Just look at Milstone Comics Static.
Both were intelligent, nerdy, after a hot girl, wise cracking hero, not so nerdy as older, started in high shcool, the similarities go on and on.
It was even stated he is based on a spiderman type.

Static is an awesome character that stands on his own. You don't need to do what marvel is doing.

I'm just sad that we've seen the last of Pete and don't really think the could have legitimized the uncle Ben/Pete dynamic unless the new spider-man was Bobby or Johnny or even Kitty

Posted by Burnstar1230

That's cool. Interested in seeing how he got his powers. It's not like another OZ-enhanced spider is just floating around....or is there? Or maybe the gov't figured out how to reproduce spider-man's powers in others?

Posted by FalcomAdol

I think it would have been better if it were Kitty or Jessica Drew. Diversity cuts both ways, there should be more women in comics.

Posted by Pacperson

....=( Should have just been Spider-girl....

Gonna Read before i pass judgement tho

Never even heard of this character before but this change seems very fresh so I approve of it.

i think it will be multiple people with one costume

To go along with the "Marvel ruining their own surprises" question.

I wonder if they feel the urge to drop info (even if it's the day before) so that they can be the ones that give the surprise, versus someone getting a hold of the comic and scanning it the day before and ruining it?

interesting but I'm skeptical

Posted by inferiorego

I miss the first diverse Spider-Man... Miguel O'Hara.... Spider-Men 2099

Posted by Sammo21

@JoseDRiveraTCR7: its fine because its ultimate. I don't agree with changing a characters race just to be PC so it would annoy me if it were happening in 616.

Posted by danhimself

meh....there was absolutely no excitement with this news...none

Posted by The Stegman

cool idea, but man i'm gonna miss Peter...

Posted by rmanthorp

Every time a MvC game comes out a new Spider-Man costume comes out just after, last time they just missed FF Spidey and now that is in. I bet this will be DLC...

Posted by fodigg

I wonder if Ultimate Spider-Man will finally stop talking like a middle-aged Jewish man now.

Not that I want them to start throwing "hip" slang into the dialogue to show us all just how much the new Ultimate Spider-Man is all-new, all-interracial, but it would be nice to not see the word "tuchus" every issue and "oy" every other page.

Posted by Dernman
@fodigg: I liked the oys and the tuchuses.
I especially liked the oy that tuchus. :D

BRING IT ON MARVEL! I'm ready for another OMD level fanboy freakout!!!

Posted by haydenclaireheroes

Well I have to say it is not what I expected. I really wanted it to be Gwen Stacey even though I did not know how they would do it

Posted by lastdrag0n89

I can dig the change, but I can already see the negative back lash this is going to get. I wonder how long marvel will stick with this

Posted by Pizawle

'Tis cool. If there is one place you can trust Bendis, it is within the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man.

Posted by Fluffy6079

It should have been a pre-existing character with some relationship to Peter.  It'll be hard to have the Pete-Uncle Ben relationship represented if Peter never interacted with him.  Of course, there could be a retcon to create a history of their relationship....  And everyone knows how well Spider-Man fans LOVE retcons.  :P

I actually might get back into Ultimate Spider-Man now, I have to admit that this new character could prove to be a good jumping on point (unlike those other "jumping on points" that companies try to promote that just turn out to be confusing revamps, I'm looking at you DC).

Posted by jubilee042

interesting lets see

Posted by thorwhore

I so called this! I knew they were gonna change his ethnicity. I'm all for it!
Edited by Jordanstine

I'm calling it now... it's only a matter of time before Earth-616 version of Miles Morales appears in the regular Amazing Spider-Man books... possibly as part of the plot/storyline for the return of Ben Riley!

Tan-tan-tan!

Posted by Decept-O

Will there be any significant changes to the costume or just some minor "tweaking" in the design? Sounds interesting, although I am not into Ultimate titles at all, it is still getting people interested. Also, some are posting already there will be racist comments or hate; um...I don't see any and why even make such asinine comments to begin with?

I love it peter parker was stale this dude looks the part

Posted by Duo_forbidden

I thought it was going to be a character that already existed in the Ultimate Universe, someone everyone knew. I didn't think that Bendis would create a completely new character especially for Spider-Man. In a way, he's the Ultimate version of Miguel O'Hara. Hopefully, he won't be thrown out like the kid who took the original Daredevil's place and died. in Ultimate Avengers 3.

Agreed. Plus, that Spidey 2099 costume is awesome sauce.

"... for the first time ever, someone other than Peter Parker will be Spider-Man! "  I already call BS on that.  Have we forgotten about Miguel O'Hara and Ben Reilley (who, even though is a clone, is still a different person)?  Now if they said "for the first time ever in ULTIMATES", I can see that.

Still, it's weird to see them actually kill a major Marvel character off to replace him with an unknown.  First they kill off my favorite X-Man (Gambit), then they kill off Spider-Man.  Even in Marvel-626, they killed off Human Torch, my favorite FF.  Next thing you know, they're gonna find a way to kill Thor, Storm, and Hulk.

Nevertheless, if they're gonna replace Peter Parker, I'm glad they're doing it differently to add some diversity to it.  Another Spider-Girl or Spider-Woman would've been nice, but I'm curious to see how this new kid's gonna work out.  After all, there aren't enough strong African-American-based characters in comic books these days.

MILES MORALES!?!?  he's not shooting webs, he's throwing out a the Latin King sign.
Posted by mixupsupreme

People on other sites have been quite angry with this change but it seems most of the people here like the change. Personally im excited for the change and i cant wait to see this new spiderman.

Posted by CrimsonTempest

Interesante historia, chico.
But in all seriousness, diversifying Spider-Man's identity to be what apparently looks like the black Puerto Rican version of Spider-Man is indeed a headturner. I sincerely hope that BMB can find his streak as he done so in the first Ultimate Spider-Man with Miles.

@CaptainCyke
i totally agree, that would have been amazeballs. but this is pretty cool, just have to wait for tomorrow to see if its good
Posted by GundamHeavyarms

I think this is a good idea, I do like a multi ethnic spider man.  I think we all would have been more okay with it if he had some kind of established history with Peter before he died, Bendis is most likely going to retcon it so he did, which will probably piss people off even more.  Ill give it a shot maybe by this time next year, we'll all like Miles, or Marvel will announce that peter is coming back somehow.

He's. . . he's. . . he's so. . .

CUTE!!! OMGOMGOMG. . . Aww, he looks just like a spiderman should look -- kinda skinny, kinda nerdy, and all scared 'n stuff. . .

Aww, he's so cure. Not like it needed it, but I approve!!!

Very astute point but totally different situations. Static can become a relevant Spider-man type because his universe doesn't have one more established. In fact the entire universe was pretty open. While I'd love more diversity through new characters, it's already a pretty crowded boat for any brand new character let alone one that might come off (perhaps unfortunately to most) of the comic reading community as a diversity hire. Mr. Terrific is about the best that can be hoped for in terms of long term diversity in the comic world where most of the biggest names were made prior to man walking on the moon and the very BIGGEST names were made before WWII (ie male and white).

NO, NO, NO

Posted by kevin88wk

i don't follow spider man comics (i only read dc comics) but from what i know the guy on the pic isn't peter parker, so ya what happened to peter parker?
PLS reply

Posted by goldenkey

Bedis is great.  Seems like he's known more his side stories dealing with the non-super hero issues then the actual super hero stories so I bet this will be good.  I'll be pissed if they have him talking ghetto.  Not only will it be stupid, but offensive.  I wonder if they'll make him as smart Peter tho.
Posted by WiqidBritt

makes me think of the one bit that Todd MacFarlane said he wrote where spider-man saves a guy from getting mugged and the guy says something racist, and spider-man grabs him and says "How do you know I'm not black under this mask?"

I like that they're going this way with the Ultimate line, I feel like the closer it got to 616 stories the more annoying it was to read.
