Spider-Man Trilogy Swings onto Blu-Ray today

I'll admit it, I'm hooked on Hi-def.  I can't see buying a regular dvd anymore.   Between the two, it's Blu-ray for me.  That's why I refused to buy Transformers (it's only on HD-DVD, their loss).  I have a lot of dvds so I'm not going to rush out and re-buy everything on Blu-ray.   With Spider-Man 3 coming out, I did decide on getting the trilogy versus just the single version.  I do have 1 and 2.  I never bought into the "double dipping" when they released the .1 or .5 versions.  Also, for the price I paid, it was like getting three movies for the cost of two.

First off, 1 and 2 don't have any special features.  People have been complaining about that.  Realistically though, who doesn't already have those special features on their regular dvds.  Also, they'd have to be re-mastered or they wouldn't be in hi-def.  What would be the point?  I'm fine without them.  I like special features to a point, but I just don't have time to sit around and watch hours of stuff that is just okay.  What is good for me is the disc for Spider-Man 2 also has the 2.1 version.

So how does this trilogy stack up?  Here's the specs:

Now I know the films weren't great.  I did think they were entertaining.  Bottom line, that's what was important.  It would've been so easy to ruin these films.  The fact that they have grossed so much is proof that people do like them.  Us comic geeks just have to let go.  We'll never have our perfect comic book movie.  I've accepted that some time ago.   Was it worth spending the extra cash for the Blu-ray?  For me, yes.  I'm becoming a video snob.  I don't want to see a movie in a theatre unless it's playing on a digital projector.   I've popped in the discs and watched certain scenes.  It does look and sound good.   There isn't any exclusive content in the Blu-ray version over the dvd versions but you can see a difference.  Seeing Spidey swinging around in his blue and reds just looks...amazing.

Now my main concern when I was debating whether or not I should get the whole trilogy or just 3 was, will there be a double dip?  It'd be surprising not to see a Marvel movie that didn't do that.  But when all is said and done, what more could they add to 1 or 2?  It seems that they've shown us all the deleted or extended scenes.  If there are any more, they probably aren't that great or they would have shown them to us already.  3 is another story.  I'm sure there will be another version coming out in the future.  That's okay.  I have my blooper reel so that's good enough.  Could there be extended fight scenes?  Yeah that could be cool but they'll pop up on the internet.  Extended Bruce Campbell scenes...?  Now that'd be something.

So I'm happy I decided to go the trilogy route.  This is a nice addition to my collection.  And even better, the 4 discs are packaged in a case that's the same size as single movies.  I don't need the big bulky box sets.  This small slim packaging is perfect.
