Sony Releases Dates for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4'

Looks like we're getting a quadrilogy, folks.

Suddenly, I'm somewhat less concerned about the amount of characters allegedly being introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Today, Sony announced the release date for not just the expected The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but also for The Amazing Spider-Man 4. Having 4 films to spread everything out gives director Marc Webb much more room to play with the characters, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the confirmed characters are merely set-up in the next film or even just teased. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is slated for June 10, 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 is set for May 4, 2018. So yeah, it seems like you shouldn't get your hopes up on Marvel Studios getting those rights back any time soon.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to hit theaters May 2, 2014.

@granitesoldier: I thought ASM was a total rehash & failed on almost every level. I'd put it right by Green Lantern in the I should have never watched & won't again category.

Slow down Sony. ASM 2 didn't even come out yet and they are already making dates for the next 2?

As long as they don't have a dorky actor from a lame tv show play Venom I'll be fine.

Also, it's not necessary for Marvel to get back the rights. Spider-Man doesn't belong in an Avengers movie anyway. IMO it would be a mistake.

Agreed. Spider-Man is technically an Avenger now, but he's only been one for like 8 years. As opposed to the more than 40 when he was never a team player. To throw him in with Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor this early in the film franchise would feel like a cash grab more than anything. It seems like everyone wants everything to be in the Avengers, even Marvel Studios. But throwing Spider-Man in there, or the X-Men in there, they might as well just throw in the Punisher.

While I don't think the reboot we got was necessary, Amazing Spider-Man was a really fun film, and it had even more potential to become something better the next time around. I am more than happy to see this series continue at Sony.

Hmmm I guess its good to plan ahead, but I wonder where they're planning on going if they're shoehorning the entire Sinister Six into Spider-man 2?

Let's pull back the negativity people, and give them a fair shake. This means more comic glory for us on screen and paves the way for more.

Most people complaining about them are going to watch them anyway. So chill.

Hopefully the 3rd or 4th will be the death of Peter Parker with the introduction of Mile Morales. By then I think everyone will be ready for a non-white Spider-Man.

Hmm... makes me wonder if a certain predicted death in this upcoming installment will happen or if they wait until the third film.

I'm actually thinking that this movie will end with a cliffhanger. Not the actual predicted death but the predicted killer taking the predicted victim as an ending.

Hmm... that's not a bad outcome. I'd much rather see Gwen (Emma Stone) stick around for the better part of the franchise!

Well that's your opinion. If you don't like it don't watch it I don't know what to tell you. I still think it was good.

You know, I understand people are fully entilited to their opinions.

But I mean, it would help if people said why these movies are so bad. I personally think ASM was better than the previous 3.

I can't wait for the sequels.

If Sony originally had a 6 film contract and are now making a 7th movie... I wonder what that is really going to mean for Spider-Man in the long run.

Agreed, In my opinion Joining the avengers made peter weak. He know had buddies to deal with his villain issues while he dealt with mary jane, which personally i dislike, I prefer him alone.

Hmmmm, something just doesn't seem right to me about already mapping out the dates for the release of the rest of the movies to me. If they are projected dates that's fine, I just felt a red flag come out of nowhere there. I just hope there's remarkable improvement to the second film, I honestly do.

Sony just wants to keep he character as long as they could...extend it, then extend it again...

So that Marvel won't have him in the Avengers sequels....It's a bad news guys....

I'll be 20 when Amazing Spider-Man 4 comes out. That's a very scary thought for a 15 year old. My journey from adolescence to adulthood will take place alongside the casual release of four films. Years are going to fly by.

sorry. I know I'm in the minority but the first ASM didn't do anything for me.. And I don't plan on going to the 2,3,4,5,6..... whatever. But sony/marvel.. Take a page from spider-man 3 and try not to introduce too many villains at a time or insert venom/symbiot too early.

I'll never get the hate for TASM. Was a masterpiece? No. But it was pretty good.

Agreed. To be fair I rate TASM pretty much the same as Raimi's Spider-Man. Both have their equal share of flaws. Both versions improve on different areas of the SAME exact story.

I think this is a huge mistake. Now, I personally loved The Amazing Spider-Man movie, but I don't think that the second one will be as successful as they think. After the success that was The Avengers, I believe that Marvel is getting a bit cocky scheduling all of these movies so soon. Especially after the terrible Iron Man 3, I truly think that Marvel has to take a step back and put in more time/effort into each of their individual movies, and not think about the future of their Cinematic universe. I want to love this announcement, but the second Amazing Spider-Man movie isn't even out yet. C'mon Marvel, C'mon. How about instead of worrying about future Spider-Man movies, you worry about how dumb Jaime Fox looks as Electro?

@fojtikbt: Marvel don't own Spider-man. Sony do. This is Sony releasing dates not Marvel. Iron Man 3 had nothing to do with Sony.

Counting their chickens before they hatch.

Playing with fire Sony.

This feels way too much like when they said there would be a Spider-Man 4 and then two follow ups. This probably won't happen like this.

I gotta go back and watch the ASM again, because I was not thrilled after seeing it the one time in theaters, and I hate to say it but it was mostly Andrew Garfield as Peter that turned me off. He was just too, like, modern. Not believably geeky or necessarily likable, in my opinion, but I dunno, maybe now that the introduction is over and done with it'll get better with these next ones.
