Some Dude Wants To Play Thor

With the casting call out, hopefuls try to push themselves as contenders.

The idea is to release a movie based on Thor next year.  Kenneth Branagh has been getting ready to direct the movie.  The casting call went out and they should really decide who will play Odin's son soon.  I would imagine a movie set in Asgard would need a bit of production time after filming.

When a well known actor or actress puts a shout out revealing that they'd like a certain role, we can accept it.  If they have the skills to back up their claim, there's nothing wrong with them stating their wishes.  With Thor, we have some guy from Canada that has really been pushing for getting the lead in Thor.  It has been reported before that James Preston Rogers, a former doorman/bouncer and short time 'actor' had been campaigning for the role.  Seeing the story again on Comic Book Movie, made me decide to bring it up here.

I'm not from Canada (eh?) so I don't know who this guy is.  Apparently he's been campaigning on myspace, facebook, petitiononline, IMDB and youtube.  Sure he kind of resembles the part.  He is 6'6" and has been in a 'sci-fi Viking' movie called "Outlander" where he "had the time of [his] life riding a horse, swinging an axe."  He figures all you need to do is replace the axe with a "hammer" and all will be good.

We all have our dreams.  Starring in a big budget Hollywood movie may be one that lots of people have.  It just seems a little...sad to me when people go to extreme means to push themselves when they may not even be close to being a contender.  The casting call did state that they were looking for someone in their "mid-late 20's."  This dude is 36.  Maybe I'm just used to the days when the actors silently went to actual movie auditions and you didn't really hear about the process until an actor was chosen.  It just reminds me of the little annoying kid jumping up with his arm raised yelling "Pick me, pick me!"

But then again, maybe this guy is right for it.
