Silver Surfer Film Still Being Produced

If you have been looking forward to a Silver Surfer movie, then you may have to keep waiting, as production on the film seems to be a bit up in the air. According to a recent interview with Collider, screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski  indicated that due to the fact that the previous Fantastic Four film did so poorly may be the reason why things have been so quiet on the Silver Surfer movie front.

"What happened was when Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer didn't do as well as they hoped it would do, it caused them to call into question a Silver Surfer movie..."The script that I wrote picked up right where FF2 left off. So if they do a Silver Surfer film down the road, it'll have to be its own separate thing."

However, simply because the previous FF4 film bombed at the box office, and the original Silver Surfer script was supposed to pick up where the previous FF4 film left off, does not mean that all hope for a Silver Surfer origin story is lost, Straczynski announced recently.

When FF2 didn't do as well as hoped for, that script was set aside, but that has NOTHING to do with the Silver Surfer script that is NOW under development at Fox with other folks. As far as I know, that is proceeding apace. So the hysteria that's gripped the nets about 'ohmygod the Surfer movie is dead!' is not correct, as I was again referring to only that one specific script tied into FF2, NOT what's being done now."

To be honest, I would personally much rather see a Silver Surfer origin story come out of all this as opposed to a film that branches off from the Fantastic Four movies. I really only hope that Fox does this character justice! What do you think? Do you hope to see a Silver Surfer film?
