Each day, the 52 panel is different, so let's see what today brings.

Update

Welcome to another day of covering the New 52 Panel! I'd love to guess what this one is about, but honestly, I have no clue. How are you guys enjoying your day? Red Robin and Deathstroke are still sitting next to me, so hopefully, a fight doesn't break out, or someone stabbing someone in the eye again. But hey, we're not in Hall H! We're in room 6DE, my second home this week!

11:20- Kickin off! John Cunningham says it's a bit delayed because it's going to be an "All-Star" showcase. Dan Didio and Jimm Lee walk out. Judd Winnick comes out. Tony Daniel comes out. Bernard Chang comes out. Scott Lobdell comes out. Sterling Gates and Rob Liefeld come out. Grant Morrison struts out. He's allowed to. Geoff Johns comes out, and the last person, good old Scott Snyder. Wonderous.

== TEASER ==

11:25- Didio turns it over to the group. Jim Lee thanks the crowd for coming up and being positive about it. Geoff says he's moving today. Aquaman time! Finally. Every time he tells someone he's writing this book, they say Aquaman sucks. Everyone thinks he's goofy, and he's not. "The book is beautiful." Someone says not to cut off his hand. Johns says he's going to cut off his foot. Johns gets into Green Lantern, same stuff from the Green Lantern panel... Hal gets arrested in the first issue.

11:27- Grant Morrison is on a book tour. Action tells the early story of Superman. Not the boy on the farm, but Superman in Metropolis. We get to see how the costume involved over the years. He doesn't have the same power set, he's younger and brasher. Rob Liefeld time. No, onto Sterling Gates. They will be teamed up for Hawk and Dove. They're showing panels from the book, and I don't care what anyone says, I like his art a bit. It's nostalgic for me.

11:32- "DC has the best magical characters, bar none" claims Rob Liefeld. I agree. Scott Lobdell on Teen Titans and Superboy. They wanted to separate characters from their legacy. Make characters like WonderGirl more her own character and less like Wonder Woman. Red Robin looks like Falcon. White Falcon. Art work looks really nice on the big screen. Tony Daniel on Hawkman. "It's been a very hard but fun and fulfilling project for me... We're streamlining him a bit... My artist, Phillip Tan is doing an amazing job. I've never met anyone more excited." Jim Lee he stays at Starbucks all day to do his art and it's very "caffeine driven." It's an honor to do Detective #1 says Daniel. It's going to more short stories revolving around Bruce Wayne and Batman as a Detective with a noir vibe around it. Tony is making new characters for Batman to fight.

11:40- Snyder on Swamp Thing: He proclaims his love for Swamp Thing. He wanted to give the character a new a bold and fresh look. Swamp Things last actual memory was being on fire and landing in the swamp. The series is about the secret history and his relationship to the green and we'll get to meet his greatest enemy to date. "I'm so, so honored to be on this book."

11:45- Judd on Batwing. So far, no new info that we didn't already get from the Batman panel two days ago. It is a super hero book. They show Ben Oliver's art again of the guy getting stabbed through the chest. Artwork still looks awesome.

11:50- Back to Snyder on Batman #1. "It focuses on Bruce Wayne in Gotham... the idea is that Gotham is a city the is 300 years old. What if Bruce doesn't really know Gotham at all? What if there is something darker there? What if there's an ancient evil?" Book sounds awesome.

11:55- Question time. Q: Guy asks why aren't their more female leads in DC books? A: Didio puts him in his place because they have around 8 books in the new 52 starring women. Q: Where are the New Gods? A: You'll see them in Multiversity next summer. Q: Why the number 52? A: 52 is a magical number in the DCU. Q: IS Hawk going to face any blowback from not completing his mission in BD? A: Wait and see.

12:00- Q: Have you considered bring artwork into digital? Creating online 3d digital comic. A: Didio says it's something they're thinking about, but they're focusing on the books now, but the books will be available as digital online, just not 3d.... 3D comics? That sounds a tad ridiculous. Q: Which of the 52 should you give to your friends? A: Judd Winnick says give them all to your friends. Other than that there is no real answer. Q: Will Ambush Bug ever return? A: Didio says no. Giffen doesn't want to do it.Next question asker says he's glad Rob Liefeld is back at DC. Red Robin, sitting next to me, asks his friend who Rob Liefeld is. ::facepalm::

12:10- Q: Do you think that Sinestro's willpower has made him your perfect character? A: Johns says yes. Morrison talks about Batman and says Batman Leviathan will be his last story with the character next year. It will be a huge story.

12:15- 15 minutes left and my butt is killing me. Q: Please do something with Aquaman. Is Batwing going to have invisible children or something else I couldn't hear? A: Judd says no because it's a super-hero book. Batwing's arch-villain is called Massacre. They'll be staying away from the politics. Q: What costume would you guys wear? A: Johns says Grant Morrison. Morrison says he's here as Lex Luthor. Q: Will Cassandra Cain be in the new DCU? A: Morrison says yes. Q: Are you committed to hiring more women? A: Didio says we're committed to hiring the best writers and artists around. The crowd yells Gail Simone. Grant Morrison says if you want to work for DC, send your stuff in.

12:25 Scott Lobdell talks about a new Latino character named "Wall" AKA Miguel who can create a 3 foot by 3 foot force field. Q: Are Flashpoint elements getting carried over? A: The Element Woman gets caried over, Grifter, some of the things that happen to Cyborg will get carried over. Final Question: Guy bashes a few comic series. He brings in Green Lantern/Plastic Man: Weapons of Mass Distraction. Morrison takes it and like it. Judd says one man's trash is another man's treasure.

@okayla: Maybe they recently changed their submission policy, if Grant should know that then I'd doubt he say something untrue someone should ask to clear that up. I think your assuming of the Bi/Les characters is flat out wrong, Its stupid to assume that straight characters 'rock the boat' more and thats why they stay away from them, your looking for a fault that isn't there. Traditional sex appeal is your other reasoning for Bi/Les? Just because they like other women doesn't make it the same as straight men, not at all, your generlizing the sexuality of a group of women, its slightly appauling that you'd do that. What kind of response did you want from "why isn't there more female creators involed in this relaunch?" (by my count asked each time at these panels, so 3) Did you expect "We tryed" "We got rejected" "They we're busy" ? What can you say without making your product that your trying to sell sound sub-par?

Gay men characters do rock the boat more than lesbians do in terms of general media, yes. That's why we have songs like "I Kissed a Girl" but guys can't hug without screaming no-homo at each other.

Traditional sex appeal is your other reasoning for Bi/Les? Just because they like other women doesn't make it the same as straight men, not at all, your generlizing the sexuality of a group of women, its slightly appauling that you'd do that

What on earth are you saying?   It's not my idea that bi/lesbian characters should be used for sex appeal, but they often are in Western media and it's a little naive to think otherwise. It's considered more acceptable and 'hot' to have two girls together, where there's an 'ew' mentality that I see on these very boards if you talk about gay guys together. If you think DC isn't aware of that, you're incredibly innocent.

Um, any sort of blanket PR statement would have been better than being rude. Jesus, how hard is it to say:

"You know, that's something we could improve upon and we're looking to do so! We've talked to several women creators, including A, B, and C, and while they're not involved with our September reboot (Which is gonna be fantastic, guys), we look forward to having a more diverse team in the future. In fact, we'd love to see more submissions at our portfolio reviews from female artists! You can find out information on how to apply on the DC website, just check under submissions 00 We know you're out there guys, and I know that I've personally seen some fantastic work online from our female readers. Hopefully in the future that'll translate to an even more diverse team than ours right now, but we're working on that. In the meantime, why don't you check out Gail Simone's Batgirl? We know it's a bit of a controversial book, but Gail Simone is outstanding and I think this book might surprise you."

Dang, I mean, I thought of that in five seconds. It's not that hard to not be a jerk and dismiss someone at the same time.

When did we switch this to Gay characters? You clearly did not make that clear for me and I was clearly talking about straight female characters. If your going to be a writer i'd suggest you work on that , cause here I am thinking we're talking about female characters when we're not. Maybe you should do their PR, they clearly need you.

The what-on-earth-where you saying bit from me was because i could not understand what you were trying to say. You weren't 'clearly talking about' anything.

I think your assuming of the Bi/Les characters is flat out wrong, Its stupid to assume that straight characters 'rock the boat' more and thats why they stay away from them, your looking for a fault that isn't there. Traditional sex appeal is your other reasoning for Bi/Les?

I have no idea what you're trying to say here.    I never said straight characters rock the boat more, I said:

I think they're more comfortable with pushing bi/les females because they tend to have more traditional sex appeal and don't rock the boat that much.

To break that down for you, bisexual and lesbian women are easier to market because they have more traditional sex appeal and are not as controversial as their male counterparts, and I think that's why they have less gay or bisexual male characters.

Thats why i said you WEREN'T clear. No shit Gays dont get sex ref. momments in DC comics or anything to close to that (hopefully in Stormwatch).  Your saying shit i agree with. When we weren't focuasing on men, this was about Women in comics in general. Not Gay men. You had me believeing we were talking about Women. You were saying that Les/Bi leads dont count as female perspective characters. I've been saying they were. Then you pull this "No no no i was talking about Gay guys this whole time" bullshit on me. I broke it down for you. You made a mistake.

@Alch

You were saying that Les/Bi leads dont count as female perspective characters

Nope. I said it wasn't necessarily progressive since traditional sex appeal and stuff holds true, it'd be more 'progressive' of them to have a gay male character.

And I was continuing with this:

Im pretty sure Voodoo has always been Bisexual don't know much about her but I'm pretty sure they aren't afriad to do a lesbien female hero lead (Batwoman ^^) If you mean bisexual male characters then you have a point.
That was my point, DC isn't really progressive with female bisexuality/lesbians because that's pretty much all they have. They might have one or two gay male characters, but they certainly don't ever really highlight them and the numbers certainly compare to their female versions.

Alch, dude, you're were not being necessarily being clear yourself in the post that confused me.

When you said female lez/bi counterpart it sounded like you were talking about straight females. Since we were talking about females. w/e So, yea, gay male leads would be more progressive but I think Dc needs more female leads at this momment in time. Before the relaunch I couldn't tell you one gay male in any DC book . So DC is doing better in that regard (completely badass chars too)

@Alch:  Eh, I'm sorry it wasn't clear, now I can understand what you were offended about. For what it's worth, my focus is art and not writing! But it's good to be able to make yourself clear regardless.  There were quite a few gay guys in Kate Spencer's book, including a possible future that showed her young son as being gay. And of course, Obsidian.

I think DC needed less Bruce Wayne books and more diversity in gender, sexuality, and race.  But oh well, I might as well wish for a pony.

Anyway, for what it's worth - let's hope DC hires some good PR machine from now on out. I like comics, and I want the reboot to succeed, but they need to refresh their attitudes like they're refreshing their books!

I really like Drake's new look. It makes him look younger, the way he is meant to be, rather than going from looking like a teenager when he isnt costumed to an adult in the Red Robin gear. This makes him look younger and more unique to other Batman characters. I enjoy it. Static on the other hand....looks horrible. Cassandra looks good, ripped yeah i know, but I really like it. The revamp does seem like its going to be a massive fail because they're not really explaining it well...but we'll see how it turns out after flashpoint. X(

DISTRESSED READER'S PRAYER

Oh Holy KIRBY, all-powerful creator of universes.

Protect us from Reboots and new versions of the origins for my favorite
characters.

Keep my mind from these silly ideas.

Both my collection of DC and Marvel,

Do not let these kind of crap to get near them.

Enlighten these ignorant.

May the writers be wise.

And the pencillers virtuous.

Make them understand that it only takes one good story and nothing else.

Pour your wisdom over them.

And if they repudiate it, KILL THEM ALL!!!!!

Amen!
