Scott Snyder on New BATMAN Character, Harper Row [Minor Spoiler]

Minor spoiler, there's a new character appearing in BATMAN #7. Who is she and what's her connection to the Bat-Universe?

If you've been reading Scott Snyder's BATMAN run you know you can't and shouldn't take anything for granted. If you've read and re-read past issues, you know we're constantly seeing big clues right out in the open. After reading the later issues, you practically kick yourself for not having noticed it earlier.

Batman has recently undergone a helluva ordeal against Talon and the Court of Owls. With today's issue #7 (you can read the review here), a new character appears.

Who the heck is Harper? From these panels, you get the impression that they have some sort of history already. Rather than sit around and speculate who she might be, we went straight to Scott to get some answers:

Harper Row is her name and she's a character I've been thinking about for some time. I don't want to give too much away, but you'll be seeing more of her in Gotham soon - she has an important role to play in upcoming stories.

The way things leave off and based on what Scott says, this won't be the last we see of her. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled to see where she turns up next.

If you didn't already have a reason to pick up BATMAN #7 today, this should give you one.

@tanders04:

Yeah, I actually own that comic. The male Robins are Tim, Jason, and Damien and Dick is Nightwing.

@tanders04: Who's that one guy, who's cape is above Nightwing? He doesn't look familiar.

This Harper Row seems interesting. I hope to see some character development for her in an upcoming arc.

I'd rather they just form a super-team full-time:

Although "Nightwing & the Robins" sounds a bit too much like a band.

It looks like Dick Grayson appears here twice, once as a Robin and once as Nightwing. Just wondering if anyone else caught that? lol.

Forgetting about Jason?:

Everybody forgets about Jason.

@Funrush:

That's a girl. She's the Robin from the future in Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns". Carrie Kelly is her name.

@DarthShap: I wouldn't go as far as calling Stephanie Brown "classic".

My brain can't help but transpose "Harper Row" into "Roy Harper". Doesn't mean anything, just had to say it.

I'm seriously doubtful she'll be a "Bat-fam" member. Morrison enjoyed some minor supporting characters like "Roxy", as have many other writers. It's just Snyder stirring the pot.

I claim that Harper Row will be Alfred's replacement. There, I called it first.

I'm pretty sure there are rumors of him getting sick and dying in Batman TDK. I could be mistaken though. Also, Alfred is old. He can't live forever.

@TheMess1428: true but thats tdk and i mean if he was gonna die cause of old age he would have by now plus does anyone know how old he is

What do you mean by "but that's tdk"? Batman: The Dark Knight is a comic out right now and is still part of continuity. And due to Flashpoint changes, Alfred is most likely younger than he was before Flashpoint but he is still probably in his 50's or 60's. I have a feeling that Scott Snyder will make Harper into Alfred's daughter that he never knew about.

@TheMess1428: oops thoght you meant the dark knight rises cause yeah i haven't been following tdk its just a mess and i honestly don't think scotts gonna make her alfreds daughter but maybe she can be the next oracle
Posted by TheMess1428

@etamogrey77: Making her Oracle is a complete bitchslap to what Barbara Gordon has been over the years. I'm sure it won't be that. Maybe the next Harold.

She strikes me as more Misfit-y than anything.
