Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated Ep. 1 Review

There's a new Scooby-Doo show coming towards you.

No Caption Provided
There's a new Scooby-Doo TV show coming your way. Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated premieres tonight, Monday July 12 on Cartoon Network at 7 p.m. ET/PT. When I first heard that another new series was coming, I'll admit, I was scared. And I'm not talking scared the way Shaggy and Scooby usually get when they come across the "monster" of the episode.

Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby are all back. I watched the first episode with my daughter (L'il G-Girl) in order to give you guys two perspectives on this new series. The idea here is ghosts and monsters may exist but it's up to the gang to uncover the truth. Also, they won't just be dealing with paranormal activites, they'll be dealing with situations that come up in their families and personal relationships in the group.

What did we think about the show?
 == TEASER ==
It starts out with a new intro. It's mondern yet has a slight classic feel. L'il G-Girl approved. It's nice that we get to see more on the kids' background, including their families. Although, one thing we noticed was Fred's dad wasn't the same from what we've seen in a previous series. Hmm...did Fred's parents divorce and his mom get remarried? We also get to see Daphne's siblings.

The show was pretty good. It holds up to the memory of the classic episodes while having an updated feel. How many times have we seen Shaggy and Scooby pose as bait? This time they are forced to dress up as girls. What was a nice touch was Shaggy asking why they had to dress up as girls when they actually had two girls with them.

After we watched, I asked L'il G-Girl what she thought. She liked it. She said the gang acted a little differently but she liked it. She commented on Velma "liking" Shaggy and also enjoyed seeing their families. She said she does want to watch the show when it's on.

Success on Warner Bros.' part. They've managed to bring back Scooby and the gang with updates but still retaining who they are supposed to be. Fred and Scooby are voiced by Frank Welker (What's New, Scooby-Doo?, Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!, Dexter's Laboratory, Transformers). Mindy Cohn (The Facts of Life, What's New, Scooby-Doo?, Shaggy & Scooby Get a Clue!) voices Velma. Grey DeLisle (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, The Replacements, The Super Hero Squad Show) voices Daphne. Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo films, Robot Chicken, Scream) voices Shaggy.

If you're a Scooby-Doo fan, check the show out and see what you think. This is also a great time to introduce the Scooby Gang to any younger siblings you might have.

Here's some images and a couple videos to get a taste of what you can expect.

Interesting voice actors.  While I could care less about the Scooby-Doo movies, it's neat they are using Matthew Lillard to voice Shaggy. I admit, he does a good Shaggy voice.  Also of interest is Mindy Cohn, I had no idea she'd previously done any cartoon voice work.

Ah! The video compressor is acting wonky. Still waiting for those video clips to upload.

@Decept-O:
As you can see, most of these voice actors have already voiced the parts in previous versions of the show. Casey Kasem does voice Shaggy's dad.

 I guess I'll be checking this out, they'll never be able to top The New Scooby-Doo Movies, but it can't be much worse than Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!

I only got to watch about two minutes of HEAVY flirtation between Shaggy and Velma, haha. I'm actually liking that they're developing the characters further. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo really helped to layout some of the character history's and interactions from the original series and it almost seems like this show (for what VERY little I've seen and what I've read) is actually picking up from that point, as far as school and families.

I don't suppose Cartoon Network has it online that I can watch the full episode?

I never liked too many of the earlier versions of Scooby-Doo besides A Pup named Scooby-Doo. But this one looks awesome.

I liked how the characters are wearing the same clothing, and the monstors aren't real but guys in mask. It much more like the original.

But what was with Velma? Its fine that her and Shaggy are getting close (I wondered if that would ever happen) but she seemed much more bold and...rude?

 Velma and Shaggy....together?! CRYSTAL COVE (what happened to Coolsville)? Adults acting a bit suspicious than the crooks they unmask? And is it just me or does everyone and the setting look like the 1970's?

Is it just me or this version of Scooby-Doo might go through some problems before the excietment builds up. (Not that I don't like Scooby-Doo, but it's just my opinion)

You know This is the first I've heard of this and just got done watching the vids on youtube. I used to watch scooby doo all the time as a kid and it was my favorite cartoon. I feel this cartoon does the originals justice while making it interesting to younger kids who are just getting introduced to this which I feel the other recent cartoons had trouble with. I think Velma's personality change is a little creepy though. She seems to spunky.

@doordoor123:
I actually think they are trying to combine all of what happened in all the scooby doo shows like I know I used to watch a pup named scooby doo and their parents were around, but I'm not sure. I'd like to see extended family like I think Shaggy had a little brother.

Man, I wish that I had a friend like Fred when I was still in school.  "It looks like a mystery to me, and I think that's just a little more important than school!"  *ditches class*

This version of the Scooby actually looks good.  Haven't liked many of the versions since the originals.

I saw it with my niece and nephew... we thought it was good. I would've watched it no matter what, because Scooby Doo is my favorite cartoon of all time and I try to watch every incarnation of the series. The show mentions classic villains from "Scooby Doo, Where Are You!". I can't wait for the next episode and see what crazy adventures Mystery Inc. go on next.

The cute, clever girl likes the total drop out?  Since when did they start injecting realism into Scooby Doo?

If this comes out in Oz, I'll probably check it out. I miss this show.

Hmm...  I'll have to check this out and see what my 2 year old thinks.  I have to ask, is there a dance/chase sequence?  If there's no music and things running around on screen she probably won't like it. :)

It looks very good. I like the animation. I'll watch it. I have watched all the previous incarnations. For example right now I'm watching the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.

I think it was just right. I always suspected that Velma and Shaggy would hook up. The fact that we're seeing it here sort of brings the kids to a new level. Yet it's not all about relationships in the show. You have the classic chasing-the-bad-guys story. I wasn't crazy about Shaggy and Scooby Get a Clue. This is more of what I'd want. And my daughter dug it too. So it passes the test on two fronts.

@G-Man  Unfortunately missed this one last night, but did see Abracadabra Doo with Matt Lillard as Shaggy.  Still not sold on him for some reason, I guess I like Kasem so much more since I grew up with that show.  Classic

Compared to what I remember the Casey Kasem "Shaggy" to sound like, this Shaggy sounds kind of raspy - like he's losing his voice.
