Almost half a year’s passed since the creation of DC Entertainment, but audiences haven’t seen too much in the way of concrete answers so far.
Instead, there’s been a handful of lingering questions, and one of the biggest concerns Paul Levitz’s exit as DC’s president and publisher.
Will the consolidation of DC’s brand mean that Executive Editor Dan Didio shall report directly Diane Nelson, the president of the newly-created DC Ent?
Or will Didio take Levitz’ vacant place?
Or will it be another outsider to the comics world, a businessperson who already has a track record in another industry, similar to Nelson's time with the WB’s Global Brand Management?
The last possibility certainly seems plausible. Following it, the rumors of Barbara Marcus taking the position would seem especially plausible.
She distinguished herself at the children’s book giant Scholastic and arranged the licensing partnership with Warner Bros. that eventually led to that HARRY POTTER series of book-based movies you might’ve heard of. Given that much of Nelson’s success revolves around the dollars those films have earned for the WB, I don’t think it’d be too much of stretch to suggest Marcus is in her Rolodex -- that she might even be one of the first names Nelson might suggest to fill the vacancy left by Levitz.
Plausible but, apparently, unsubstantiated. At least, according to Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood, who say so in no vague terms…
I'm assured there is no truth to the Internet rumors circulating that Barbara Marcus will be the next publisher of DC Comics.
That’s the sound of that rumor bubble popping. Although, who knows, it might still prove true. Regardless, the question of who will be the next president, or if, indeed, there will be one, endures. So, I don’t know, savy Comic Vine community… if Marcus is out of the running, how do you think this corporate “ Battle for the Cowl” will play out?
