Comic Vine News

Sara Lima Says Goodbye

It's been a great four years.

Dear Comic Vine,

It's hard to believe it has been four years: four years of my working here at ComicVine. It feels like only yesterday when Whiskey Media brought me out to San Francisco for a face-to-face interview and offered me a position as Associate Editor of the site. It's kind of surreal to think about -- being plucked from a community I loved, fresh out of college and being given a chance to live on the other side of the United States (where I knew absolutely no one!) doing something fun and getting paid for it. I took a risk accepting a job and moving to a place I didn't know, but it was so worth it.

Come to think of it, I was pretty lucky: how many people get the chance to read comic books for a living? Not very many. Now, with four years under my belt, and hundreds upon hundreds of articles, editorials and video interviews, it's time for me to say good-bye.

Good old days on The Big Red Phone

It's crazy to think back to how I was hired. I remember how excited I was to go to New York Comic-Con for the first time and can recall asking Jim Lee for a short, on-camera interview -- guerrilla style. I had borrowed a camera and my sister held it for me while I asked Jim questions. He was at his table and he was even nice enough to sign my copy of HUSH. Years later I would interview Jim Lee and he would tell me "great job on the interview, Sara -- you've gotten a lot better." I had gone from stuttering nervousness on-camera, to being composed, calm and collected -- and a big shot like Jim Lee had noticed.

I can remember my very first San Diego Comic-Con, my first interviews (yes, the ones where I was wearing a Wonder Woman costume…those boots nearly killed me!). I remember the excitement and the feeling that I was doing something really interesting -- I was getting an opportunity to work with the comics industry. Not only was I getting a chance to write about some of my favorite characters, I was also given the opportunity to present information, opinion pieces and interviews on camera to all of you. I hope you all enjoyed it, because I know I did.

Working for Comic Vine for the last four years definitely changed me: it gave me opportunities to meet exciting and interesting people, go places I had never been, and move far, far away from home. It forced me out of my comfort zone and taught me a lot about my self, my abilities as a writer and on-camera journalist, as well as what I want to do with the rest of my life. I won't lie and say this letter was easy for me to write, because it wasn't. In fact, it was pretty damn difficult. I'm glad I was there early on to meet so many members of the community, to share in the excitement of the conventions, and to watch as comic books and comic characters become popularized through other forms of media.

I just wanted to take time to thank you all the members of the community for giving me the opportunity to work for you. Thank you for the support you have given me, another member of the community, over the years: your opinion of my work has meant a great deal. i just want you to remember; it's you who make this site what it is, and that's not something I have ever forgotten. You are what makes Comic Vine unique and different from other websites. That sense of community, the forged friendships and the interactions are what is most important about CV.

Saying goodbye has never been easy for me, so for now, as they say in France, I'll say à bientôt!

Be easy,

P.S. - If you want to follow what I am doing now that I will no longer be working on the Vine, you can head to my own site, And of course, you can still follow my ramblings on Twitter.

After hearing about Sara's departure I was sad to see her go, but I think its time for someone who Loves comicvine to let you know that I have slowly stopped visiting the site throughout the past few months. Now I know what your going to think "great another complaining person" but hear me out. I've been a bigfan of the site and it has showed me sooo much about comics an made me appreciate them again. Heck, my friends are sick and tired of hearing me advertise your site to anyone that mentions comics. I don't know how you guys decide how things go in the office/Site but could you guys try to go back to how you guys were 3 years ago?

Things that I Miss!

-Bring back the Quests!!!!!!! they made people discover and brought users together in times of panic/anger.

-Bring back video vlogs where you guys sit down and talk about comics, tv shows, etc. (Maybe do a video review of the figures, comics, etc. a person is more appealing than a article...the pod casts are good but I enjoy watching people interact vs listening)

-Bring in another girl who is attractive (i'm not saying bring in some model who knows nothing about comics just someone who is attractive to the audience) (Im NOT saying sara isnt attractive im saying bring in someone just As attractive as she is!)

-Bring back "user of the month" (i was always wondering what i had to do to get noticed on have NO idea how hard i worked on editing unknown character pages)

-Do some contests (they don't have to be big prizes, like do it where the winner gets an interview on skype/ a few questions to introduce themselves via PM...or something corny like that)

-Have more voting Polls about anything and everything (i've noticed it dosen't matter what it is people will vote and comment which will bring back some connection between the users)

-Feature some unknown character page to get users to discover other things besides DC/Marvel

-Ask fans to submit some reviews, play out their fav scenes in past comics or ask the fans to do dorky stuff on Youtube! (Use youtube to your advantage!)

I know, who am i and what do i know about running a site, but when i first got to comicvine by accident i enjoyed the occasional Quests and weekly interviews. I met pretty cool people and like i said enjoyed weekly comicvine news. Lately it seems like less and less activity is going on and you got an entire audience to help contribute beside their fanboy fights. Ask the interns to step their game up and show themselves on Comicvine. But this is just my 2 cents from a fan who wants to be excited to go to comicvine instead of going there every once in awhile and feeling like i'm the only one there.

Oh, damn.

All the best, Sara.

Noooooo, I was scared this would happen. Now the reviewer I agreed with most is leaving :(

Good luck with whatever you do, Sara. CV will miss you.

Can't she still stay as a mod or user or something?

We do still have Corey and Tony but it wont be the same which you know, is the way it should be afterall as Sara brought something unique to the site that only she could bring. The person who takes over will bring his or her own thing to the site too, change is scary but as much as its scary for us, it has to be 100 times more scary for Sara so lets wish her well and hope she finds her calling.

Sad to see you go, Sara. Thank you so much for all of the hard work and passion that you brought to the site. You will be sorely missed. Best of luck with all of your future endeavours!

I still remember it fondly: three years ago I began poking around this awesome website about comic books, even though I had never read any (besides Bone) myself. As I slowly unraveled the great mysteries of the Vine, I noticed one day the staff put up a weekly podcast (I believe at this time there were only a dozen or so entries, if that) and - even though I did not follow comics or listen to any podcasts, I decided to take a chance and click on one. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. You, G-Man, and Red LAMP were my very first introductions into modern comics, and I will never forget it. As I tear up now, I gaze through the mist of vision at the dozens of books I have since collected because of you three (plus James Robinson, of course). You showed me a world unlike any I could ever expect, and when LAMP left I was devastated. Now Sara, you too must go. I remember wandering the 2011 San Diego ComicCon, hoping to catch a mere glimpse of my heroes, you guys. I remember the looks of horror upon my friends' faces when I incessantly told them about this amazing podcast I followed all about comic books. I remember the seemingly endless video games I played all while predominantly listening to you and Tony and so many others bicker and praise various books, writers, artists, events, and food (ironically enough, I could never get that into Giant Bomb's cast). I remember the first comic book I bought because of you guys (New 52 Batman #1) and loving you so much for giving me the opportunity to do so. I remember how you got me interested in Wonder Woman and Batwoman (my new favorite superhero) and I remember being ecstatic every time you or Tony responded to or liked one of my tweets or comments. Honesty time: I was freaking dumped last night and this the only thing that has succeeded at making me shed a tear all week.

So Thank You, Sara 'Babs' Lima, for giving me the best days of my life. Even though you have spent so many years rattling off facts and opinions about superheroes such as Wolverine and Damian Wayne, you are the real hero , and you will be missed dearly.
