Rumor: Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Movie?

It's looking like Marvel Studios wants to bring the laughs with their space adventure.
There have been plenty of rumors surrounding casting for Guardians of the Galaxy, but this latest round is by far the most interesting.  According to Latino Review, Marvel Studios is seeing if Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler are available.
Now, I can only imagine this would be for a voice acting role (perhaps Rocket Raccoon?). In the off chance this isn't limited to voice acting, I could definitely tolerate Jim Carrey -- he's certainly a fine actor -- but Adam Sandler? Well, this is my immediate response.  Â
I suppose going for a big name or bringing heavy comedy makes sense from their angle. These characters are widely unknown to the general audience. Personally though, I was hoping marketing alone could compensate for that and still reel in audiences. After all, this should be a "must see" movie for anyone that saw Avengers or wants to see Avengers 2 and that's an insane amount of people.
Additionally, there's also a new trio of names allegedly in the running for Star-Lord. Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell & Cam Gigandet are the latest names to add to the growing list.   Viners, what do you think about this latest batch of rumors?  Source: Latino Review
Carrey at least I can tolerate. He actually has made a few movies I enjoy, just don't think he'd be good for the character.
Casting Sandler, however, will be a death sentence for this movie. Given how bad the last Sandler movie I was subjected to was I think I'd find greater entertainment value by simply taking $15 and setting it on fire then I would be watching anything else that he's involved with.
ok i really dont want either. i know jim carrey does have the acting chops, but if it really is for the raccoon i think sandlers voice does actually work better. i mean listen to him speak close your eyes and cant you see that voice coming from a little woodland creature? but honestly i really hope that neither are in it. its already hard enough for me to take this movie seriously already. and a bad cast would just kill any chance of me watching this film
I'm sorry, but If either of them are in this movie I will NOT see it. Iron Man had enough humor, & it was good humor. I enjoyed it alot. I feel that the Amazing Spider-Reboot tried to copy that exchange between Tony & Pepper for Gwen & Spidy, but didnt get it right.
However, I dont think Adam Sandler or Jim Carry can make a movie without going all goofy, this is were that realistic adaptation BS is coming back to harm movies, they must feel with a racoon & tree-man, etc that they have to really go wacky because the viewers wont be able to handle it not being "realistic"
This movie will probly suck & ruin the entire Marvel Movie-Verse . This is when a company has something good that prints money, so they have to expand it.
Marvel, watch your Ghost Rider movies. Or Elektra. Because you are about to make your 4th worst movie. & destroy all of your Avengers related momentum

(And we need Phyla Vell in this or a sequel! Get a gay superhero on the screen!)
While I would prefer a movie with only the Hot super-females, no female super hero other than maybe Hit Girl has ever played a major part in a superhero movie that didnt suck. So since they cant even get a basic super-female done properly, giving them two things like that is well beyond them.
I wouldn't mind seeing Carrey just as a voiceover for RR. If sandler gets a shot I only hope he voices Groot just so he has one line of dialog the entire movie.
Interesting. If either of them actually end up doing the film (and I doubt they will) this wouldn’t be the first time either of them have done voice work.
Jim Carrey is great. He's probably one of the best underrated actors of his generation. I'm convinced he can play any role being asked. No problem here.
Adam Sandler is what he is & I do not understand the hate for him. He's not my first choice for a starring Marvel movie but as a supporting member, it could work.
Because yea, internet fan boys were so right about RDJ & Heath Ledger in comic roles werent they?
Sandler has acting chops too it's just that no one seems to notice probably because of the large amount of crap films he also puts out. He was excellent in Reign Over Me, suitably peculiar in Punch-Drunk Love, and endearing in Spanglish. As long as the writing is good, either guy is a fine choice (so long as they bring their A-game). I don't know anything about Rocket Raccoon but thought I'd throw in my two cents as far as Sandler's credibility goes.
Jim Carrey is an extremely talented actor. If you haven't seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Majestic I recommend you check them out to see Carrey's dramatic side.
I'll be on board with him being cast in any capacity, not just as a voice actor.
Jim Carrey as a voice actor would be kind of weird to see. He is so off the wall sometimes I couldn't imagine them to make a character to act to his loud antics. Might not be such a bad idea, but depends on who which character he is cast for. Adam Sandler has his own type of comedy and I don't think he would pull off a comic character. He is more slapstick and uncomfortable funny.
I seriously doubt that Sandler is interested in doing anything other than his own movies at this point since all they do is make buckets of money. Carrey could be an interesting choice.
All I can say is that I remember similar reactions when it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. was to be Iron-Man, and we all know how that turned out. So whatever happens, who knows???
Definitely cannot see Sandler pulling off anything as different as this sort of movie. Carrey I would actually have to see to believe. He's a great actor and comedian but Ace Ventura is very fresh in my mind so it's nearly impossible to not think of Rocket Raccoon shouting 'ALRIIGHTY THEN'.
I can't see either of them being the on-screen or voicing over any of the characters. I always pictured Racoon as having a gruff, military-esque voice. Think crazy Willem Dafoe, or Jason Statham. And for Groot the voice should be inhuman. Think Dr Claw or Mike Patton in The Darkness video game.
I get the sense that Kevin Feige is a goofball and likes that type of humor. Trying to artificially inject THAT type of humor into a superhero movie is destined for "Batman & Robin" type results.
