Rocket Raccoon to Get His Own Solo Series

Everyone's favorite gun toting raccoon to go on some solo adventures

It's the moment fans have been waiting for. MTV announced that Rocket Raccoon will be getting his own solo series at Marvel, written and drawn by Skottie Young. Obviously, because of Young's art and writing style, this is going to be quite the humorous book. Young talked to MTV in an exclusive interview and had this to say.

"I like any of the humorous characters, any of the ones I can have fun with... And around this time 'Guardians of the Galaxy' was getting restarted, so I said if there was any of way of doing some sort of Rocket Raccoon story that would be fun too!"

Young has spent the past few years working on the Oz adaptations at Marvel and still providing the cover art for many Marvel books. This RR book will be the first time Young will be writing and drawing the book he's working on.

While Young is known for his art, which is a bit geared more towards children, fans don't have to worry about this book being squeaky clean and childish.

"I'm not going to go crazy where we're going to go extremely vulgar or anything, but I did want to play with a bit of that edge... If you have a character that carries a big gun, a ridiculously, cartoonishly big gun you've got to be willing to shoot it."

This won't be MAX though, so don't worry about it becoming insanely gritty and full of cussing. ROCKET RACCOON hits stores on July 2nd. Check out the solicit and some preview pages.

ROCKET RACCOON

Written & Drawn by Skottie Young

As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of galactic battles. He's been a hero to the weak, a champion of good, a protector of the innocent, a heartthrob to the many intergalactic female species and now--a raccoon on the run?! ( I'm sorry, I'm sorry, a "formidable-and-expert-Guardian" on the run. Rocket is NOT a raccoon, okay?) Rocket's high-flying life of adventure and heroism may soon be a thing of the past when he becomes a wanted man--and the authorities are not the only one on his TAIL! (We'll definitely be overusing that pun!) Superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game as writer and artist on the series we've been waiting decades for.
