Rocket Raccoon to Get His Own Solo Series

Everyone's favorite gun toting raccoon to go on some solo adventures

It's the moment fans have been waiting for. MTV announced that Rocket Raccoon will be getting his own solo series at Marvel, written and drawn by Skottie Young. Obviously, because of Young's art and writing style, this is going to be quite the humorous book. Young talked to MTV in an exclusive interview and had this to say.

"I like any of the humorous characters, any of the ones I can have fun with... And around this time 'Guardians of the Galaxy' was getting restarted, so I said if there was any of way of doing some sort of Rocket Raccoon story that would be fun too!"

Young has spent the past few years working on the Oz adaptations at Marvel and still providing the cover art for many Marvel books. This RR book will be the first time Young will be writing and drawing the book he's working on.

While Young is known for his art, which is a bit geared more towards children, fans don't have to worry about this book being squeaky clean and childish.

"I'm not going to go crazy where we're going to go extremely vulgar or anything, but I did want to play with a bit of that edge... If you have a character that carries a big gun, a ridiculously, cartoonishly big gun you've got to be willing to shoot it."

This won't be MAX though, so don't worry about it becoming insanely gritty and full of cussing. ROCKET RACCOON hits stores on July 2nd. Check out the solicit and some preview pages.

ROCKET RACCOON

Written & Drawn by Skottie Young

As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of galactic battles. He's been a hero to the weak, a champion of good, a protector of the innocent, a heartthrob to the many intergalactic female species and now--a raccoon on the run?! ( I'm sorry, I'm sorry, a "formidable-and-expert-Guardian" on the run. Rocket is NOT a raccoon, okay?) Rocket's high-flying life of adventure and heroism may soon be a thing of the past when he becomes a wanted man--and the authorities are not the only one on his TAIL! (We'll definitely be overusing that pun!) Superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game as writer and artist on the series we've been waiting decades for.

@gambit1024: the Abnett/Lanning series was awesome. That seems to be where the movie is taking most of its inspiration. I would say the only problem is they were a backbone book for a whole corner of the Marvel universe that was crossover heavy. I haven't read it since the first time so it was easy to keep up. I don't remember how it would read by itself.

If Marvel make this film I will forgive them of all there current bullshnit

Well I wouldn't forgive them but I would enjoy it!

Can't wait to pick this up. I'm a big fan of Skottie Young's art. Hope his writing is just as good as his art.

oh, and why are there 230 comments on this article that have NOTHING to do with this article?

I would've been happy with a Rocket Raccoon book, but then you say it's by Skottie Young and I... I don't know how I could express my excitement...

The 7 year old in me just started bouncing uncontrollably. The Rocket Raccoon Mini-Series was the first comic I ever bought as a kid. Still have that copy and it is well-read and much loved. I can't wait to read this.

This is my favorite image of Rocket Raccoon by the awesome Joe Mad.

On a side note, I think it is clear that Rocket is going to be this year's Deadpool.

I'm not entirely sure if that's a good thing, if only because the wrong Deadpool was the one that was huge in 2009-10.

I'm in love with this series already.

God damn it Marvel please stop announcing so many great books. I need some money for food.

Edited by Alertcircuit

A month before the Guardians of the Galaxy release, hmmm? Seems like Marvel's trying to hype people up for the movie.

Yeah, picking this up. A-babies vs. X-babies is one of my most prized comics and I still think it's the best thing to come out of avengers vs x-men.

Wow, this is a match made in heaven.

@vance_astro: That really doesn't mean much to me, lol. My wife goes by HarleyQuinn online and she really doesn't know who the character is. This is the internet: assume nothing.

Ahh, that cover is just fantastic. Makes me half smile.

Yea that may just meant you are a New Warriors fan lol

I dont ever get excited about any marvel series but Im actually looking forward to this and I usually like dark gritty and edgy stuff and nothing comedic. Skottie Young seems like a great choice and he sounds passionate about wanting to writing a character like Rocket Racoon.

Justice only goes by Vance Astro in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Wish it was a Rocket Raccoon and Groot series... but I will still get this.

Although I like Rocket Raccon, there is a lot of characters who should get a series before him.
