Robert Kirkman's 'The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor' Novel Due in October

Now you can read all about the greatest villain (besides the zombies) in The Walking Dead world.

Hopefully you've been reading Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic. If you haven't or if you're currently catching up on the weekly Walking Dead series, you might not know about the Governor. If that's the case, stop reading now except make a note that there's a Walking Dead novel coming in October.

For the rest of you, you know that the Governor was one of the greatest villains Rick Grimes and the survivors had to face. Now we have a novel by Robert Kirkman coming co-authored by horror genre vet Jay Bonansinga. This will be the first in a three book series and hits store shelves October 11.

The Governor was the leader of the walled-off town of Woodbury with a sick sense of justice. He forced prisoners to battle in an arena for the townspeople's amusement and chopped off the appendages of anyone that crossed him. What we don't really know is how exactly he became the man he is. Who was he before the zombie outbreak and what drove him to such extremes?

Robert Kirkman is thrilled to finally tell us more of the story.

There are many pieces of the overall Walking Dead puzzle that just don't fit in the comic book series. The Governor's story is one of them. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity for these stories to be told and working with Jay Bonansinga to bring them into the world has been amazing.

Like many of you, I can't get enough of The Walking Dead. You can bet I will be finding the time to read this cover to cover.

That would make sense, but I didn't think the governor was that interesting a villain in the comic, but maybe this will change my mind.

He was one evil evil man, I wanted him dead after about three pages

I would've liked a miniseries/graphic novel better, but I'll definitely check this out!

I did too, but I thought of him as just another person losing their mind at the end of the world and doing horrible e things for no reason.

Awesome, this guy makes me sick. Seeing things from his perspective may change my view on him. I've always wonder if he was as deranged before his daughter died.

Kinda off topic, but, I swear...Danny Trejo would play a great Governor.  Would love to have this story! Always did wonder how an Hispanic came to lead a bunch of Georgia rednecks in midst of a zombie apocalypse lol.

I bet he worked in a bowling alley before the outbreak. No reason in particular. And no offense to anyone working in a bowling alley.
