Rob Liefeld SOLAR #1 and WARLORD OF MARS #100 Retailer Incentive Covers

These covers could be harder to come by than your regular variants unless retailers order today and fans let them their LCS know.

We've all seen the various variant covers that publisher release but the availability of the retailer incentive covers really falls upon the retailers. It's up to them to determine how many to order. Comic readers can do their part by letting their local shops know they'd love to get their hands on one.

Dynamite has some incentive covers coming up and the FOC date is quickly approaching. Here's what's coming and what retailers need to do to qualify.

No Caption Provided

#1: Any retailer who increases their initial orders of SOLAR #1 [any combination] by 20% can order as many SOLAR #1 ROB LIEFELD COLOR RARE REORDER editions as desired.

#2: For every five (5) SOLAR #1 LIEFELD COLOR RARE REORDER editions that a retailer orders, that retailer can order one (1) SOLAR #1 ROB LIEFELD BLACK-AND-WHITE premium incentive edition.

#3: Any retailer who increases their initial orders of WARLORD OF MARS #100 [any combination] by 20% can order as many WARLORD OF MARS #100 JAY ANACLETO BLACK-AND-WHITE RARE REORDER editions as desired.

#4: For every five (5) WARLORD OF MARS #100 JAY ANACLETO BLACK-AND-WHITE RARE REORDER editions that a retailer orders, that retailer can order one (1) WARLORD OF MARS #100 JOSEPH MICHAEL LINSNER ART BOARD premium incentive edition.

So Solar's lats go all the way to his hips? Liefeld must have naked pics of everyone in the industry.

He must be doing something right because he's still in the business and people still work with him. What are you doing with your life?

I'm not being a hack artist who is generally considered flat-out abysmal to work with and has missed editors' deadlines on numerous occasion. I'm also going to art school so I can learn how to actually draw before starting a career as an artist. Y'know. Like Rob Liefeld never did.

Actually, I have to thank Rob Liefeld. He's part of what inspired me to try to proper break into comics. I looked at his stuff and said, "I have better standards than that," and now I'm taking courses and refining my style and seeking feedback and basically preparing myself to get all these comic stories out of my head and onto paper. I'm making a real, genuine, heartfelt effort here, and it's all because I looked at Rob Liefeld and was convinced I could at least be, if not a more technically proficient artist, but a more educated artist than him.

I'm a huge Liefeld defender. The man has done alot of awesome things in the industry and he get's WAY too much hate.

However, this cover is almost great, but its ruined by those huge nonsensical sides on Solar. I mean, he almost looks like a flying squirrel. The rest of the image is SO GOOD though. I'm starting to think Liefeld is just trolling us on purpose.

Edit: Actually, PLEASE, SOMEONE PHOTOSHOP THIS IMAGE. With just a little cropping on Solar's sides, this would be a truly excellent cover.

Leifeld is a fucking embarrassment. He should hand is work out for free, with the promise that it will all be burned.

Your Spider Jerusalem icon makes this statement all the more perfect.

Cyclops first appeared in X-MEN #1, cover-dated September 1963. Doctor Solar first appeared in DOCTOR SOLAR #1 cover-dated October 1962--but he didn't adopt his familiar costumed identity as Man Of The Atom until DOCTOR SOLAR #5, also cover-dated September 1963. So this was in all likelihood a coincidence

Nice job man. It's almost incomprehensible that someone didn't edit this image before it got published. I mean, how did Liefeld himself not see what an easy fix it would be? I feel like maybe he has bad vision and in his eyes, people really look like he draws them.

Yeah, nice work. If I get someone to fix my art for me, then maybe I don't need to better my anatomy drawing skills and be famous as well!

Solar is a classic character (for anyone who read back in the day) a cool character and definitely not a cyclops clone (maybe the other way around). Always likes Solar and glad to see him back. (and the art is ok)

For Rob Liefeld art...that actually isn't too bad.

Only the first one is Rob Liefeld's art. And yes, it is kinda bad. Look that that guy's torso.

If it was still 1991, cool , Liefield would be awesome. His time has long since passed though lol.

Or at least take an anatomy art class, goddamn hahaha.

Hey look most don't like Liefields work....I understand why. It doesn't take away from the many characters he has helped to create in some way or another that to this day are awesome characters(Deadpool..and more).

I have always seen his work highly stylized that pushes exaggeration on anatomy. I respect it because it's HIS style. I see his art and immediately know that it is his. Many artist go half a life time to develop their own style. As an artist you don't want to be a replicate of someone else. You learn the rules, identify them, and then break them.

... I'm just trying to figure out why you'd get Liefeld to draw a variant to try and get people to order more comics with said cover. Seriously, just about ANY other artist's variant would be more compelling and thus get more orders. Were they on a budget and Liefeld works cheap?

Well look at it this way, do you really think this thread would get 80 comments if it hadn't been Liefeld?

@farkam:

His back right side looks stretched, similar to the way Mister Fantastic stretches. Granted, it's probably just the way he drew it, it simply reminds me of the Reed Richards stretches. The visor is why it is reminiscent of Cyclops. I have already read the previous comments regarding the introduction of Solar and Cyclops coming out the following year. The way the visor was drawn, along with the mouth look like how Liefield drew Cyclops in the late 80s early 90s.
