X-Force #6
"Angels and Demons" Conclusion
The shocking finale to the first arc! Wolverine versus Bastion. Archangel versus the Choir. Wolfsbane versus her father. X-23 versus Matthew Risman. Warpath versus . This is how a species dies.
It starts off with the cover. X-Force is really something. It's like it should exist in its own universe. It's hard to think of the team members in the other shiny colorful X-titles. Clayton Crain's style really just works on this title. It's dark and full of blood but doesn't feel over the top. Often you'll see the gore and violence just for the reaction.
Craig Kyle and Chris Yost are really onto something here. X-Force is an evolution of the X-Men teams. The world is a different place than it used to be. In these first six issues, they have done a lot. Not only have they established the team and the killing characteristics they now have to embrace, but there's so many other stories that can come out of this. X-23 was trying to get away from her killing past. Warpath is still sort of teettering on the edge of who he is. Wolfsbane has new issues to deal with. Angel won't be the same after either. Who knew the metallic wings were still a part of him? We also have all these resurrected villains to deal with.
As bloody as this issue was, I actually found myself wanting more. Most of the issue is told in a narrative form so it felt a little fast paced. I suppose six issue is a little on the long side to deal with one mission. Maybe I'm just being a little selfish in wanting more.
I do have to wonder what their next mission will be. When will the other X-Men discover this secret team? What will be their reaction? I can't wait for more.

I can't belive how much I'm enjoying "Old Man Logan." What's not to like? It's written by Mark Millar and drawn by Steve McNiven. That's reason enough to like it right there. There's also a version of Wolverine we haven't already seen a million times plus Hawkeye's in it. The idea that Wolverine hasn't popped his claws in fifty years is intriguing. We still don't know what happened to him and why he is so against conflict. And let's not forget that the Spider-buggy is in it too.
This is the Wolverine story I've been waiting for. Forget Wolverine: The End, this is far more interesting. This is a whole new world. It's a wold that deserves it's own series or mini-series at least. The world has been destroyed and we're getting glimpses of what survived. I love the little touches we've seen so far, like the Spider-buggy and Mjolnir. I do want to know, who is Tonya's mother? We're told that she's the youngest of Peter Parker's daughters.
In this issue we do get to see the Kingpin and more of Ashley, Hawkeye and Tonya's daughter. We also get to see some serious fighting. I was actually surprised at some of the scenes of violence. I suppose there is the "parental advisory" on the cover versus the "rated A."
Only three issues in and I'm already planning on buying the trade paperback when it comes out. This is a story that I want to have handy. Wolverine may be a huge pacifist now but you know he's bound to explode and just cut loose. I can't wait to see what other parts of this world will be shown to us.
Because of the writing, art, and surprises I have to give this a perfect score. It may not be the "perfect" comic but I'm enjoying the hell out of this ride.
