REVIEW: Young Justice Season One, Volume Two DVD

The next batch of episodes are released for your home viewing pleasure.

No Caption Provided

DC and Warner Bros. have been consistent with hit animated series. Young Justice has given us a slightly new take on the characters while still retaining who the characters are at their core. It's been a fresh take with cool cameos from the 'adult' heroes that occasionally come in to mentor the younger heroes.

As with the first release, this contains four episodes (#'s 5-8). Before anyone can say it, yes, it is unfortunate that Warner Bros. chooses to release them in volumes rather than complete seasons but then again, the first season hasn't aired yet. This way, we do get the episodes to own quicker.

The suggested retail price $14.49. It's questionable whether or not that's a reasonable price for four episodes. They do have a combined running time of 90 minutes so it's as if you're getting a feature length movie.

== TEASER ==

The first episode, "Schooled" really shows the conflict between Superboy and Superman. Superman is a little weirded out over the idea of a clone. He kind of acts like a jerk. Shame on you, Superman. We also get to see some cool training by Black Canary and Amazo makes a pretty formidable opponent for the team.

"Infiltrator" gives us the first appearance of Artemis as she joins the team.

"Denial" has Doctor Fate and deals with whether or not magic is real or can be explained by science.

"Downtime" gives a focus on Aqualad and whether he belongs on the surface or down in Atlantis.

The episodes are all enjoyable and there is a great sense in the team slowly building up into a really strong team. We don't have the typical team dynamic as they are getting to really know each other and learning where they stand on the team.

There aren't any special features besides a trailer for the upcoming ThunderCats 8-episode DVD and next year's Green Lantern animated series. Truthfully, you'll want this for the episodes. Being able to watch the episodes whenever you want on your big screen TV is a plus. My only hope is that people do buy this if they enjoyed the episode and the sales will ensure the continuation of the show. Being available in smaller packages might make it more appealing for the casual viewer/customer who might just want to get a taste for the show rather than commit to a full box set. Who knows how many years it might be until we get a box set.

I really dig the show. My daughter loves it as well. More episodes would be nice but I'm thankful more episodes are on their way.

Young Justice Season One, Volume Two is on sale today.

The greatest animated show on TV by the way.....

As G-Man said watch at leisure and support of the show  are the only reasons to buy the DVD, This show was on a seven month hiatus and played these episodes about 50 times a piece in repeats

I think I'm going to wait until the whole season is released

@TheMess1428: There's no word on complete seasons. Batan: The Brave and the Bold was released in this same fashion and I don't recall ever seeing a complete first season released. I'm sure it'd happen someday but who knows when?

Not to stray off-topic, but does anyone know if Sony decided to release the complete second season of Spectacular Spider-Man?

@G-Man: There are other series that came out in whole seasons like Wolverine and the X-Men and Teen Titans. But I'm not sure if Teen Titans ever had volumes.

both actually....with the dvd's running 15 bucks...a blu-ray would be what? 25 bucks? probably around that....there's no way I'd pay that much for 4 episodes

Glad to see these episodes come on DVD so quickly. So, if anyone missed watching Young Jutice they can catch up very quickly on a great show.

@freezy: She's there. My daughter really digs her.

@danhimself: I would love to see 'em on Blu-ray. They do look good though playing through the blu-ray player on an HDTV. But, yeah, I know, not exactly the same.

This is awesome. I just dont understand why many shows on networks like this do "season, volume" breakdowns. It should just be done by season I say.

Me too... can't we only have complete season sets? These individual episodes are just saturating the market...

Wow WB is really cheating people on these dvds its a 26 episode season and they are only handing out 4 episodes per DVD, I know they can fit more then that.

Yeah I really hope they do a complete season set, never saw part 1 show up, the only way I've seen it is part of the DC Animated 3 packs, it's paired with Justice League and JLU. I really don't wanna buy 5 or 6 4-episode sets for the whole season.

I hate Young Justice. They are teens who's powers are way dumbed down from the comics. I prefer Brave and the Bold over this.

BATMAN: THE BRAVE & THE BOLD was released on DVD in half-season sets (Season One Part 1, etc.) after they released them as individual 4-or-5 episode discs. There's no real reason these can't be out on DVD in full-season sets about a month or two after the season ends. It's just that WB wants to milk these shows for all they're worth. If the demographic indicates the viewership skews young, they will go the 4-episode-per-disc route. A little kid doesn't care if he's getting good value for money, he's just going to see it in the store and scream for mommy or daddy to buy it for him. Little kids have no concept of money. Plus they usually want to run the complete season in reruns on Cartoon Network before they'll release a complete season set. BTBATB skews to both an older and younger audience (baby-boomer adults who remember the Silver Age enjoy it together with their kids.) GREEN LANTERN THE ANIMATED SERIES looks brilliant. Did you notice what they did there? How much you want to bet that this airs in the half-hour immediately adjacent to STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS? Pure genius, cross-selling a DCU animated series to the SW fans.

Do people still buy 4 episode discs? Why do they keep doing this? Just finish the season and release the boxset already.
