Review: Ultimate Comics Avengers 2 #3

Featuring Ultimate Ghost Rider

No Caption Provided
The Ultimate universe gets introduced to the Ultimate spirit of vengeance, Ghost Rider. Can this new team of Avengers solve a group of gruesome murders and stop the Ghost Rider at the same time.

The Good

As always Millar and Yu’s work is awesome. I’ve said this before, so I’ll cut to the chase. Story wise, I think this book has a lot going for it. One aspect I love is that Hawkeye is more than the archer from the 616 universe, he’s essentially Bullseye. He never misses. This was played up in Ultimates Vol. 2 pretty well, and we catch a glimpse of that here again. Punisher seems to kind of be fitting into his role, as reluctant as possible. He’s being forced into this role more than anything actually, and the character is really coming into his own. Ghost Rider has to be the best part of this book though. There’s so much mystery going on with him. I’m hoping the Ultimate Universe takes some leeway with who he is and his origin.

The Bad

Although it was great, it felt like a real quick read. I blasted through this thing in what seemed like mere minutes. Aside from that, I was disappointed not to see Hulk, AKA Tyrone Cash, in this issue. I’m really enjoying that character over everyone else.

The Verdict – 4/5

It’s an all-star creative team with an all-star story. It’s hard to judge which I like better, this or New Ultimates. It’s still not too late to jump onto this book, and considering that this same team will be working on another Ult Avengers volume after this one, you’ll really want to pick this volume up for the great story and interesting new characters in the Ultimate Universe.

@Golden Cod:
Ultimate Avengers is the other side of the of the coin. If you've been reading the X-Men titles at all the best analogy I can give you is, they're like X-Force is to the X-Men. A black ops team doing covert work out of the public eye. Its a really fun book. Hope that all helps.

So what's the difference between New Ultimates and Ultimate Avengers?   I thought the Ultimates line was renamed as Ultimate Avengers.

I completely agree with the sentiment that Hawkeye is pretty much also Ultimate Bullseye.  Especially since the Bullseye in the Ultimate Elektra mini was kind of a punk.

Ultimate Hulk AKA Tyrone Cash (The original Hulk) was in the first two issues. Smart Hulk was also in the first issue; however, Bruce Banner Hulk is not in this book.

I love doing them because every week I get to read a few books I'm interested in. Luckilly, Wednesday night is me time and I get the whole night to enjoy my books... and play video games.

" Oh, review day. A LOT of reading to do today on Comic Vine.  The Ultimate series isn't shy about taking liberties with the origins of characters. Look at their Spider-woman. The sad part is that I don't get to read the books I want to until all my reviews are done... So I don't get off track... I cheated though. I read the new Jonah Hex first.

I like the path that the ultimate universe is taking with the new additions as well as the subtractions.  Didn't care to much for the Defenders pop up but aside from that it's been good, I am a Millar fan also and I am just waiting for the Captain Punisher(sorry I couldn't resist) and Hawkeye showdown which we know is coming.  I would love ghostrider to be added to the rooster and would love to see if Tyrone Cash and depower into Leonard but, I love the flow and writing of the book it doesnt seem to rushed.
