Return of the Black Lanterns in October?

You just can't ever keep the undead down.

Maybe this is all about finally getting to see if the dead can dance.
If there’s one thing you should never forget about the undead… it’s that they can always come back! Nekron, the Black Lanterns and, basically, death itself were seemingly vanquished at the end of BLACKEST NIGHT. The nightmare was seemingly over, and yet, Black Lantern Firestorm just recently showed up in BRIGHTEST DAY. Now, DC’s Source Blog has released this promo image to your right with a question more loaded than the back of lumberjack's pick-up truck. That is… “What is October’s Return of the Black Lanterns?”

You’ll notice that, in addition to zombified Firestorm, you’ve got zombified incarnations of Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Deadman (Dead-ER man?) and those oh-so-cute love birds, Hawkman and Hawkgirl. What do they have in common? Well, they all just happen to be part of the “resurrected twelve” who came back at the end of a certain mega-crossover that just wrapped up, oh-so-recently, and I don't think that's a coincidence. There’ve been some hints in BRIGHTEST DAY about this "anti-dead dozen" having some sort of ties to their Black Lantern selves, so maybe this is what those hints were… uh… hinting at. == TEASER ==

Even though this is coming in October, some of you Comic Vine maniacs might think the BLC (mmm… sounds like a sandwich) are returning too soon after they were defeated. But, you know what? Conceptually, I think the whole war of light is the most interesting thing to happen to the DCU’s cosmology in as long as I can remember. There are plenty more stories they can do about all these emotional factions. Hell, I'm already curious to see how all this stuff with the entities plays out. But what are your theories, Comic Vine community? Where do your third eyes see this going?

Also, seeing as how this is probably going to coincide with Halloween, I'll bring up an even more pressing question - - something brought up by memories of getting gipped with one tooth brush, too many. If you went to somebody's door, would it be a trick or a treat if you got comics instead of candy?

OH HELL YES!

Psht, I could've gotten all comic books, when I was a kid, but then I liked comics.  Most kids are coming to the door for candy.

As for the dead dancing, haven't you ever seen the Thriller video?  Duh.  ;)

No real opinion on Brightest Day - I haven't even read Final Crisis or Blackest Night yet.

This looks awesome!  I agree with Tom's commentary and think that many of the BLC deserve more panel time than they got in Blackest Night.  There are so many unexplored possibilities with these characters as well as some great dynamics if they get to face their since returned namesakes...bring it on!

Ummm...Black Lantern Firestorm hasn't shown back up in the story yet.  The cover of issue #4 simply HAD Black Lantern Firestorm on it.  Just throwing that out there...unless I missed something somewhere.

Interesting none the less.

I don't know, I mean that's what I thought not to long ago when I saw the Black Lantern Firestorm on a cover of Brightest Day, I will have to read it to believe it.

ill see what happens

I love Blackest Night, so I will keep my eye out for this.

of course they'd do that. Zombies are too popular right now to let go of.

Meh, this could just be a "Halloween" cover

Not to excited if this is true, still haven't gotten over what happened to some people, hell I would've prefer the New Hawk been ressurected rather than the overtly aggressive annoying old Hawk. Also, given how Blackest Night ended why would this be necessary. Do we really need a bunch of issues feature Nekron talking again again and making no attempt to defend himself in the end. I prefer they  drop the White & Black Rings all together, too many colors as it is

Here we go again. Not sure about this because blackest night was enough unless there doing a mini return of blackest night for October which means one thing only HALLOWEEN.

I think the black Lanterns, like most of those new corps should just go away.

I like the idea of an evil corp to face the GLC, & maybe a third like the reds that seem to hate everyone, a third faction that forces the others to put their hatred aside to work together is always fun. But Blue, orange, & Indigo just seem to be, they have the least development, they are just there to fill a color spot.

Plus, they turn Star saphire, a villian, into a corp that seems to be heros.

Maybe they don't actually return, maybe it's more on the psychology side.

So sick of crossovers

Interesting stuff, looking forward to seeing where the Brightest Day leads into this 'Darker Afternoon'

It'll be interesting to see where this goes. I'm glad the Black Lanterns didn't just disappear at the end of Blackest Night.

Wicked cool, just wish there was more in each issue,  waitin to hear from the other corps... I WOULD ABSOLUTLY STILL TRICK OR TREAT,IF IT WERE COMICS INSTEAD OF CANDY!...In fact i might like it better

They're lanterns so I want to see them make constructs.  Here's to hoping.

OK at the end of Blackest Night, I thought waitaminit, That's it?.. concerning the Black Lanterns anyway.

I do feel there's a couple of more stories that need to be told about and concerning the Black Lanterns, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't overplay this out!  The Black Lanterns should show up but only occationally, please don't have them show up every issue.

Hopefully it won't be like issue 4's cover and just mislead everyone into thinking that they will appear. From seeing Aquaman's reflection as a Black Lantern to Martain Manhunter having the moment where he "shape shifted" into his Black Lantern self. Plus with the new promo poster, Black Lantern Firestorm looks to be a completely separate character. But who knows, we'll just have to wait and see.
