Report: Drew Goddard to Write and Direct Spider-Man Reboot [Updated]

From the title to the plot details, the latest rumor is PACKED with information.

Update

Comic Book Resources is claiming Latino Review's story isn't true.

"When reached by CBR News, a representative for Drew Goddard denied Latino Review's rumor that he will write and direct Sony's next Spider-Man film, stating Goddard "hasn't met on the title yet."

However, Latino Review's Umberto Gonzalez is standing by the information they've reported.

Obviously, only time will tell whether the report holds up.

Original story below...

Covering upcoming comic book movies has been an interesting thing to do. One day, there's a dozen different rumors floating around. The next, they're all shot down. But then, sometimes one or two of them do turn out to be true. So, what's the point of me saying all this instead of jumping to all of the clickbaity info you crave right about now? It's to reiterate the point that all of the information you're about to read isn't confirmed, so please be sure to take it with a grain of salt, okay? Now, over at Latino Review, they're claiming to have A LOT of information on Spider-Man's cinematic future. Firstly, Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods, Cloverfield) may write and direct. Secondly, the franchise may be called Spectacular Spider-Man and it's "envisioned as a three part series to come out over consecutive summer. Thirdly, they're focusing on "a story involving Spidey versus the Sinister Six."

They're allegedly doing what many of us want: glossing over the origin story. The report says "Spidey exists from the beginning, taken as a given." Allegedly, a "major part of the first film" will have Spider-Man taking Iron Man and then "trying to pass the 'audition' to join the Avengers." Also, the report claims the first movie will have the Sinister Six forming "with the thought to maybe later spin them off."

Glossing over the origin and finally getting a big screen version of the Sinister Six is, of course, something many of us would love, so let's hope those two points pan out. And Spider-Man fighting Iron Man? Yeah, that has the potential to be a lot of fun. Imagine the banter as Iron Man unsuccessfully tries to blast the wall-crawler with repulsor blasts and has to deal with webbing. We'll just have to wait and see how much of this turns out to be true, but in the meantime, enjoy sharing your thoughts on the latest round of Spidey rumors. Would you like to see Goddard write and direct?
