Preview: Scott Snyder & Jock's WYTCHES

Take a look at Scott Snyder and Jock's new series from Image.

WYTCHES #1

STORY: SCOTT SNYDER

ART / COVER: JOCK

OCTOBER 8 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $2.99

Across the globe, century after century, men and women were burned, drowned, hanged, tortured, imprisoned, persecuted, and murdered for witchcraft. None of them were witches. They died protecting a terrible and hidden truth: witches, real witches, are out there. They are ancient, elusive, and deadly creatures that are rarely seen and even more rarely survived. This October, superstar creators SCOTT SNYDER (SEVERED, Batman) and JOCK (SNAPSHOT, Batman) unveil WYTCHES, and introduce you to a world of unimaginable horror in a special EXTRA-SIZED FIRST ISSUE with 30 pages of story and no ads for just $2.99

Edit

Here's a special stand alone preview. This is not from issue #1.

I'm interested. I'll probably pick up the first issue at least.

@jonny_anonymous: Something to do with what he was saying in that panel. She's fine, her breast didn't rot, she can have more kids, something like that.

I'm not going to lie, I wasn't thrilled about this when I first heard. After reading the preview, I can honestly say I got chills while reading it. This looks intense.

Anyone notice the creature in the background in the mirror carrying the baby. Friggin creepy.

Looks good, but I'll probably tradewait.

Seriously, Image is hands down the best publisher right now, so many good writers and unique stories.

So wait, are these feminazi witches (the kind of people who spell women with a y) or something?

Posted by Astro_Zombie78

Looks very interesting. Might pick this one up.

Image Comics is slowly surpassing the two majors in terms of quality.

Looks a lot like Kirkman's OUTCAST. I'm ready for this!

This is the first time a horror comic gives me the chill. That preview was intense! I knew this series would be good, but this surpassed my expectations. I really can't wait!

Snyder's back at doing what he does best. Horror

After today's Thor news, I'll be dropping that, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, & Ms Marvel. More money for Image comics, this will be one of them.

@captainhoopla: What, the Angela stuff? Thor seems to be doing its own thing which will hopefully keep going.

Posted by CaptainHoopla

@dagmar_merrill: honestly, I can usually shrug off just about anything that Marvel or DC do with characters no matter how ridiculous or irritating it may initially seem. This thing with Thor is really rubbing me the wrong way though. If it had just been a female taking up the hammer for whatever reason I'd be fine. But to change a character like Thor to a female for no other reason than a publicity stunt (why else would this have been announced on The View) to try to get more female readers is going too far for me. I've been enjoying and supporting their female character books, Black Widow being my favorite of them, but I'm now refusing to support any of them. Truthfully, I'm on the verge of dropping all the Marvel books I'm reading. My favorite books I read any month are usually Image books anyway.

@iaconpoint: I'm guessing you haven't seen today's news.

Posted by dagmar_merrill

@captainhoopla: But.. Don't drop Deadpool!

Also.. I don't really read much image.. I've read Invincible ( I kinda sorta like it) and walking dead (Hated it) and Southern Bastards (Meh..)

So can you recommend one? (besides Spawn, he's already on my list of stuff to read)

Posted by CaptainHoopla

@dagmar_merrill: Deadpool is one I hope to keep reading, but I will drop it if I ever see John Lucas' name show up in the solicits again after this arc.

Image books I like, Black Science, Lazarus, Velvet, Rat Queens, East of West, Saga, and Southern Bastards (that you mentioned). I'm getting the first Deadly Class trade tomorrow to get caught up on, the first issue of Outcast was pretty good and I'm looking forward to The Fade Out, this (Wytches) and hopefully some new announcements coming out of San Diego. I know I'm missing a few others too. Hard to recommend one because they cover a wide range of genres.

@captainhoopla: I have now. What a load of crap. That's the only marvelnow! book I read and stunts like this are why.

Snyder? Check. Jock? Check. Image Comics? Check. Horror? Check. I'm all in.

IMAGE COMICS FOR THE WIN!!! Seriously, these guys are easily surpassing Marvel and DC.

Posted by nappystr8

Wow, that was pretty disturbing. Snyder's good at that though. I think it's really cool that they made a stand-alone free story to introduce people to the book. Creative marketing ideas like that are what will save the comics industry.

Posted by Blizaga101

This first person perspective is so intense, when you see the cirtter through her fingers, its feels like your own eyes witnessing everything. Really different from what I usually read.

Posted by JakeN7

Ah, the old Black Mirror team on their own creator-owned title. Comics don't get much better than this, folks.

So what Im getting from the preview the brother let the wytches get his sisters child ? Im just guessing of course with what Im seeing

Posted by Guardiandevil83

@linore: Yeah. He seems to be ill, possibly cancer, so he basically sold his nephew for a chance to live.
