Possible Story Revealed for 'Justice League' Film

What source material is allegedly being eyed for the movie script?

According to Latino Review, screenwriter Will Beale isn't looking at Geoff Johns and Jim Lee's New 52 JUSTICE LEAGUE for the movie... he's looking at older material.

They claim their sources say the screenwriter is checking out Justice League of America #183 through 185. In this 1980's story, Darkseid returns to life, and as you can imagine, wants to destroy all who oppose him.

No Caption Provided

Have you read this story and if so, do you think it's a good selection to potentially inspire the Justice League movie? DC's team up movie is currently slated for a 2015 release.

For future villains in Justice League movies, I like to see Legion of Super Villains (to help spin off Legion of Super Heroes movies set in the 21st century similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy which is now also set in the 21st century instead of the far future) and Crime Syndicate.

Darkseid does wear underwear right? I'd hate to be one of those heroes on the ground, only to look up, and then join Darkseid in the hunt for the Anti-Life Equation.

If Darkseid is the official villain for the Justice League film then... I must defend it because a lot of the people who are not familiar with Darkseid will obviously hear backlash at it and saying that Darkseid is a rip off of Thanos even though Darkseid came first.

But like I said before, it's still a bit too early for a Justice League film, maybe they should release it in 2017? WB has to set up origins of the characters we're going to see.

We already know about Batman and Superman's, but what about the others (Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman)?

Batman is pretty useless in the Justice League except that Bruce could supply money and some brain power. The useless ones are Wonder Woman and Flash whose powers can easily be found in both Superman and Green Lantern. Both Superman and Green Lantern can pretty much do anything like the gods.

If the villain is Darkseid or someone similarly powered I don't think Batman should be involved in the Justice League movie.

What's somebody like "Bats" going to do against someone with God-like powers especially Nolan's Batman who isn't a detective or much of a scientist? It's like the Avengers comics. I can never understand how heroes like Spider-man,Wolverine and Daredevil can be considered Avengers when if they face someone God-like they'd be immobilized or killed instantly. I suppose because they are popular so they have to be shoe-horned in.

I have fond memories of the 3 parter since it was the first team up of the jla with the New Gods. It was also fun seeing Orion and Mr Miracle in one story.

This is one of my all-time favorite stories. Probably because it was one of the first epic storylines I read as a kid. If they can pull it off, this would be an awesome movie. I mean, c'mon, GL plows through parademons with a pushmower construct - that's awesome.

I think DC is going with Justice League before individual movies because they are worried about Super Hero movie fatigue. There is such an influx of super hero films that eventually people will get sick of them. If they don't cash in now, then there may not be the gigantic market for the genre that exists today. We, as comic fans, certainly get excited every time we hear about a possible comic movie being released, but it will eventually wear thin with the casual movie-goer. It happened with football movies and car movies in the early 2000s and could potentially happen with comic films in the next couple years.

Is the story that they say might inspire the film any good? I saw that the issues are available on comixology so I wanted to see if it was worth reading.

I would use Starro (and yes he'd be a goddamn giant space Starfish, DC and the studios shouldn't be so afraid of seeming I guess you could use the term comic booky in a Superhero movie, if someone can accept an entirely human looking alien who gets superpowers because of YELLOW SUN and a Martian with a truckload of barely related powers they can accept a goddamn space starfish.)

Or the White Martians

Or hell some version of the Injustice League/Secret Society/Legion of Doom.

Wasting Darkseid on the first movie just seems rash to me because where do you go from there? The Anti-Monitor? there really aren't many choices for a bigger threat once you use Darkseid.

Cast would be the traditional Big 7 + Cyborg, you know to make everybody happy, OR the core 5 with Aquaman, Martian Manhunter and Cyborg appearing at the end.

@OutlawRenegade: You're not serious are you? And FYI there's more to an Oscar caliber film than giving it a serious tone. Not many superhero films can ever be considered Oscar material in departments other than special effects or something like that. And Darkseid is the perfect final villain for the Justice League to face. Not its first. It dimishes his status as a huge universal threat if he's the first guy the Justice League takes on. He deserves far more than to be a mere first villain of the League.

Ouch. Could you really be anymore condescending? I said Oscar-calibur like Batman Begins or the Dark Knight? I didn't say that it needs to win an oscar? Not hard to understand IMO. And oscar-calibur films are not often comedies/stupid fun like the Avengers was. By serious tone, I mean introspective and philosophical with good acting, scoring, and direction. That WOULD differentiate it from the Marvel films. And see this:

@AtPhantom said:

To be honest I could see this story working for Darkseid as a first villain. Here Darkseid is dead or trapped or somehow diminshed and seeks a way to restore his power. So he tries subverting Earth, the League fight him, some philosophy, some character development, cool effects, the League defeats Darkseid but he manages to escape and make it back to Apokolips where he bides his times preparing his forces for an all out invasion in a following movie.

Ugh, now you've made me think in sequels. I feel dirty.

Makes sense to me.

How am I condescending? I was asking whether you were serious about the Mongul/Despero thing. And fine my bad on the whole oscar calibur thing. Now who's being condescending? As for AtPhantom's idea, not too huge a fan of it I'm afraid. Like me he doesn't want to see Darkseid as the first JL villain. And his idea involves diminishing Darkseid's power, something that shouldn't happen to Darkseid IMO. He should appear in his full power sending his minions against the League and then smacking the League around like flies. That's who Darkseid is and that's what I'm worried Warner Bros will do wrong with Darkseid.

It would make more sense to have it be material from the New 52 "Origins" story for Justice League, especially considering that that three-issue story arc had a crossover with Earth-2 characters. Now obviously he wouldn't HAVE to translate the story word to word for script but still, just curious he would pick THAT story at all. I do recall that story though, and it was a great one I remember reading years later after it was first out. All speculation though on whether that's the only source he's looking into though if you ask me.

Rumor or not...NOOOOOO!!

I don't want to see a Justice League movie!...EVER!

Each character is a power house to themselves...and X-men was scary to think about...BUT parts 1-2 GREAT.

After that we went downhill, then we created our own universe story (First-Class) which I liked.

SO this is going to be one of those movies.

X-men works well because they were young, scared and they needed each other, for protection, growth and being a family.

Fantastic 4 didn't work because...I'm sorry they are kind of boring. The good mutants the world likes...they are the 7th Heaven of Family time for mutants.

O top of that...we CAN'T create a good live action or have a 4 season long animated series of Wonder Woman to talk about the character. She's supposed to be apart of the BIG 3...but has less creative visual lore to back it up and THEY WANT A TEAM MOVIE...with her in it...WHAT?!

The next Team movie should be about the kids of villians trying to lead normal lives and not fall into the trap of following their Parents. I think I'm talking about Runaways...right? I haven't had the chance to read the comic, but I like the idea.

Justice League is like viewing those ALLSTAR Basketball Teams. Fun to see...but in comicbook world to film...hmmmm.

So, basically...this means no Aquaman.....

Not necessarily. The story could always be used just for inspiration and even if it was a direct adaptation, they could always change things a bit and include him as well. DC seems to be promoting him lately a lot so I doubt that he isn't going to be in the movie.

...is Aquaman even needed? I mean, he has super-strength and some fish-sonar ability, but Superman and/or Wonder Woman already provide the kind of heavy hitting that the team needs.

So we're going to have Thanos and Darkseid on screen in the same year? WB would be stupid to do that. Even though Darkseid was the original, the film-going public won't know that. As far as they know, Thanos was created in April this year and WB will just be ripping him off for their movie.

They're actually gonna go with Darkseid even though it's pretty much a given that Avengers 2 will have Thanos?!

Problem is that their alternative to Darkseid is Starro. (Maybe Despero if they are desperate :S)

Why would Despero be "desperate"

There are plenty of other "sufficiently" powered threats that would make for a great movie

  1. Starbreaker
  2. Demon three
  3. Felix Faust
  4. Secret Society of Super Villains
  5. a "Legion of Super heroes" type deal
  6. Amazo
  7. White Martians
  8. Crime Syndicate
  9. Extremists
  10. Grey man ( probably only if they're have Dr fate in the first one so unlikely
  11. Neron
  12. Fermale Furies ( could lead into DS at the end like Thanos at the end of Avengers)
  13. Royal flush gang ( OK that one's pushing it, and pretty lame)

Darkseid in this first(or only) movie is NEVER going to work.

He's THE most dangerous threat in all of DC canon, so having him get his licking on day one will just kill all dramatic build-up in the sequels. If these guys can kick the ass of a God, then it's obvious what's going to happen to every other antagonist.

In conclusion, I am NOT going to watch this movie.

I'm 100% opposed to a JL film. The main reason why? The awesome MOS trailer we just saw.

WB!! Don't go for the cash grab of JL just because THE AVENGERS made $1 billion. Make a plan for how to use your DC characters. If MOS is awesome, let Zack Snyder make an amazing Superman trilogy the way Nolan just gave us an amazing Batman trilogy. Let Snyder make his movies, and develop a few other solo films along the way (Flash, Wonder Woman, the Batman reboot). Don't just put out a JL film because you think that's all fans want and that they'll automatically like it. If you don't care about the characters and the story, don't make the movie. You didn't believe in GL, so don't let a JL film suffer the same fate, and therefore negatively affecting your whole stable of characters.

At the very least, let Snyder make MOS 2, and do a Batman reboot, and push back to a summer 2016 release for JL. Don't try to compete with THE AVENGERS 2 and STAR WAS Ep. 7. You'll lose.

Ok, DC copying, or not. GET CONTROL OF MAKING YOUR DAMN MOVIES. I mean, make a DC studios or something, do not let WB keep manipulating your franchises. I mean besides Batman look how well that turned out(Green Lantern, Jonah Hex), they under performed and with horrible critical reception. Hell, look at what nearly happened to Wonder Woman, and what they did to Green Arrow(I like the show, but the comic Green Arrow, is a heavy liberal, who hates killing, while in Arrow, he killed in the first episode). Because, Marvel is killing you at the movies, besides Batman, what can you do. I mean Marvel has three franchises still running, and the Avengers. While, Man of Steel is so far mixed(some like it, other dislike it), and Batman is over, and any attempt to reboot a franchise is likely to have negative reception at first(Think Amazing Spider-Man, but with Nolan fans, crazy) If you are planning this, fine, but make a good story, or everyone will lose faith in your movies, and everyone will think the justice league is a cheap copy of the Avengers

I'm a bit split on people wanting Brainiac in a Justice League film. Don't get me wrong , Brainiac is long over due for an appearance on the big screen but I think it's best if he appears in the 3rd Superman movie, since something's telling me M.O.S is gonna follow a similar route to the Dark Knight trilogy and have the arch enemy (Lex Luthor) show up in the second film.

Problem is Darkseid hasn't even appeared once in the DC Movie Universe, so how would he return?

The only Live Action appearance I recall from Darkseid was in Smallville, and that doesn't really count, nor does it apply in this scenario in a Justice League film.

DC/Warner Bros. need to hold their horses and put this movie back for maybe a 2017 or so release. Make a Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman (if used), and Martian Manhunter (if used) movie first. Do this right. Rushing it and throwing characters into it and trying to explain their origins, becomes friends, make a team, and defeat a large threat all thrown into 2 hours-3 hours just isn't going to work. This movie will suck. I just can't see how it could be really any good when they are trying to rush this.

Why not Luthor? If he can be a big threat to Supes, how could they not develop a plot that would have Luthor at odds with all of the JL? Maybe have him trying to do some intergalactic thing to take down superman which leads to catching the eye of Darkseid for a sequel.

I agree a Superman/Batman film, then a JL film would work much better for non reading movie goers.

Personally, I think it's fantastic if they aren't using the New 52's origin. Johns is a great writer for characters like Flash or Green Lantern, but his JL just isn't good. Superman's just the guy who hits things? A Batman who tolerates Hal Jordan's sh*t, and takes off his mask just like that (issue 5, I think)? No thanks.

As great as that is, if that's true, and they aren't using the New 52's origin, I hate the idea of Darkseid being the first villain. Marvel took/is taking ten movies to properly introduce Thanos. Why can't WB just follow suit? Are they worried that they'll be judged for it? Because honestly, that'd be the best way to approach it. If the tone set in Man of Steel is the tone they want for the JL, then it's automatically unique, and in my opinion, better, than what the tone of the Avengers films are. No disrespect to the Avengers franchise, of course. Both teams are entirely different, and what works in the Marvel movies just won't fly for some of the characters in the Justice League.

For the Justice League origin, Metron can be used to gather the super heroes for a rescue mission in Apokolips. The purpose of the Justice League movie is to promote Green Lantern, Flash and Wonder Woman which is why they did not start with a World's Finest movie. Using Darkseid can also mean spin off New Gods movies to compete with the Thor movies.

If the movie follows the bronze age George Perez Darkseid story, the Justice League will just rescue the good New Gods in Apokolips and escape Apokolips so Apokolips will just continue business as usual for a future New Gods spin off movie. The Justice League will be no match for Apokolips so the Justice League has to escape quickly from Apokolips.
