Over the years, Smallville has been hit or miss with the way they've handled certain elements from the comic. I've long since given up hope that the show's producers will stick to the true nature of the characters. We just have to accept and enjoy the show for what is. I do have to mention that one of the minor things that has bothered me is the way Perry White was handled. It's hard to believe that Perry White has only appeared once, back in 2003.
When Perry appeared, he wasn't the great newspaper man we all know. He was a former Daily Planet reporter who lost his job (in part due to Lionel Luthor). He was then working for a tabloid type show while trying to regain his reputation. In the current seasons, we've been seeing the Daily Planet being run by other characters. Perhaps now is the time for Perry to come in and gain control.
Yesterday I mentioned that Entertainment Weekly got word that Annette O'Toole would be returning to the show as Martha Kent. Right on the heels of that, they've discovered that Michael McKean is also returning to his role of Perry White. It looks like he'll be returning at the end of the season. The show's executive producer Brian Peterson commented on Perry's return as it bringing him "closer to his destiny." We'll also get to see the first meeting between Perry and Lois.
I'm happy that Perry will be returning. It just seems that he should have been at the Daily Planet longer that Lois and Clark. Yeah he was supposed to have been a reporter there before but I just always saw him as running the paper for years before the two even showed up. That's just one of those things we have to accept in order to enjoy the show. What do you think about Perry's return? Does it matter to you? With these two actors returning, do you think that Michael Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor will be far behind?
