The trailers for Star Trek have been pretty impressive.  Chris Pine looks like he will make a good Captain Kirk.  Even though it is over a month until the movie opens, Paramount is already preparing for a sequel.

Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have been hired to right the sequel.  J.J. Abrams is set to produce the sequel but it hasn't been determined whether or not he will direct again.

The hope is that the script will be complete by the end of the year and shoot for a summer 2011 release.  In a report from Variety, Kurtzman said the following.
"Obviously we discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month," he said. "With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We'll be ambitious about what we'll do."

This could be a good sign.  Paramount must have high hopes for the movie.  I know I will be seeing it when it opens.  It'll be itneresting to see how much will have changed.  Once this first movie sets everything up, will they revamp other existing ideas and characters or move to create more new ones?
