Okay, Now It Looks Like Andrew Garfield Is Spider-Man

I guess Josh Hutcherson isn't Spidey.

Sigh, I had a feeling this might happen. The problem is when sources, no matter how reliable they may be, says they have some inside information, there's always the chance things will change. We always have to take a gamble on whether to run the suspected story or wait until an official announcement is made (and by then everyone's most likely heard it).

Today, Giant Freakin Robot is saying that Andrew Garfield has been officially cast. Who? He's been in a couple episodes of Doctor Who as well as The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. GFR got a press release confirming this guy will be Peter Parker.

What are my thoughts? I have absolutely no idea. I would've liked to see Josh Hutcherson play the role, just because I've seen him in a few movies. This guy? I couldn't say what his acting skills are. Let's hope Sony knows what they're doing and that they made the right choice. What do you think? Are you familiar with this guy?

Here's a pic from the official announcement.

I actually prefer this guy over Josh Hutcherson...nothing against Hutcherson, but he just didn't seem to fit the role to me.

Hutcherson was not cut out.

I have no idea who this person is.....

But with such an epic seal of approval, how can one argue?

He looks the part at least. Maybe I should go see some of his movies. He's also in THE SOCIAL NETWORK. And I just checked. He's 26! That's too old to be playing a high school student!

Posted by conformist21

Hutcherson could pass off as the Leader's step son

Posted by Primmaster64

well no high School then

Posted by KingLoki

Hm, could be worse. Much worse.

He looks decent for the role, I guess....

It must be frustrating for all of you @ComicVine pertaining movie and casting news.  I give you some grief occasionally about it but it must be annoying as all get out to have what you think is credible news only to have it retracted or proven invalid.

Still, I am still perplexed by Sony's decision in all this concerning the storyline.  Part of me wants it to do well, but due to the fact Sony is behind it and not Marvel Studios, I want it to fail.  Only so Marvel can acquire the rights to the webhead back.  IF that will ever happen. *sigh*

I think i could work, i've only seen him in The imaginarium of..(you get the point) and i have to say that he wasn't bad, but theres really nothing "WOW!" about him either. My reactions to his acting was more or less "meh.."

Well let's just hope he's a great actor so that we all can enjoy what i hope will be a great movie !

Posted by CaptainGenisVell

I've seen him in the doctor who episodes; two-part episode when Tennant was The Doctor with the Daleks in New York, Didn't have a major role in it.
I can see him or Hutcherson playing Spidey, I just know Hutcherson has more experience and has actually been a lead role before while Garfield hasn't to my recollection.

SONY HATES THE FAN BASE....

Posted by ImJustLikeParker

Better than Hutcherson, but a little too old.

This guy is an actor in the rise in the UK, he did the main role in a movie called BOY A some years ago, about a kid that killed a classmate and was sentences to jail, time after,  the chance is given to him to have a normal life (new name, new job etc.), but when he becomes a hero by saving a girl, his past becomes exposed, Terrific acting in that one. Also has a significant role in Robert Redford's Lions for Lambs, in which he is a promising student interviewed by his teacher ( redford) because of his lack of interest, very convincing in that one too. An was one of the main character (the journalist) in the recent RED RIDING TRILOGY, an UK film about a series of murders that lasted for many years. So this guy can pull off many diferent kind of roles, it was one of my choices from the begning (the other being jaime bell) and I'm happy he got the role (if it's really offical, of course).

atleast Hutcherson is the right age....I don't understand the major studio's problems with casting age appropriate actors and actresses

Goddamn it.

@danhimself:
yeah I agree.
Posted by Lustwish

Could work.  I'd give him a chance.

Posted by sora_thekey

Well he looks more like a High Schooler than the last rumor...
Hutcherson looks like a middle schooler... anyways... I don't know the guy so I give no comment on the guy respecting his acting skills!

I know it's been said, but if they want to do highschool peter parker and make it a trilogy, how can they have a guy who is already 26?
This is just beyond me, but I'll reserve judgement till I see the movie.

Posted by G-Man
@Decept-O:  Yeah, we have to go with rumors in case they pan out. It can be frustrating at times.

@Cherry Bomb:
I also linked to a site with the "official" press release.

@Gylan Thomas:
He was in "Evolution of the Daleks" and "Daleks in Manhattan" but I can't say I remember him vividly.

no...the thing is that he will still be in High School but all the actors will all be in there thirties by the end of the film series

When did the franchise change hands?  The "release" states that it's from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios not Sony.

Why is this skinny runt playing spiderman?

They're doing the same thing they did wrong on all the batmans movies before the (Chris Nolan) ones cast for batman, they casted for bruce wayne and got playboys Val and George who completely sucked. Even if they are good actors, they are not fighters and batman was terrible.
Stop casting for peter parker and cast for SPIDER-MAN.

This guy better go hit the gym.  I won't even watch this shit. It's a travesty what they have done to Spider-man on the big screen. It's an instant success because so many people already love spider-man.  But they find ways to make it so bad that not even hardcore fans can stomach it.

Wussies shouldn't play super heroes period.

Posted by Primmaster64
@danhimself: That's not good.

Yes, he is British :P  but he was born in LA. (; soo he's the best of both. Infact, he's half-american and half-english

@G-Man:  Sorry G-Man, I didn't notice. :(

Could these two be the new Mary-Jane and Peter Parker? - I hope so!

Posted by haydenclaireheroes

I would of liked Josh

Posted by Hamz

This guy is 26, so perhaps they went with experience over youthful exuberance.

Or perhaps they want a slightly older Peter Parker? I mean has anything really been confirmed for the fourth film, as in do we know the period it's set in?

No

@Cherry Bomb
If that girl is Mary Jane then I officially have no interest in this film. That girl is ugly as Hell! It's bad enough that they got this *** **** Andrew Garfield to play Peter Parker.
