Official: Peter Parker Returns April 2014 in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1

The moment some believed would never happen is coming up.

This may not exactly be news anymore. Last week an image apparently leaked revealing a new AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 with a familiar looking Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

There wasn't an official confirmation but Marvel did ask for the image to be removed. But now we can post the image once again as the NY Daily News has the exclusive on Peter Parker's return.

A relaunched AMAZING SPIDER-MAN debuts in April, written by Dan Slott. Slott's plan was always to eventually return Peter to the role of Spider-Man yet there were some that actually believed Peter's death was permanent and basically acted very mean and inappropriate instead of patiently waiting. Keeping the secret wasn't easy for Slott.

“To do that for a solid year of my life, that’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do — to look small children in the eye at a convention and lie to them,” says Slott. “One of them with an honest-to-God Little League uniform and a quivering lip. Inside, part of me was dying.”

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 alternate cover by Jerome Opena.

Peter Parker is coming back. That may ruin the surprise (which really shouldn't be a surprise) but it won't be that simple.

“We’ve gone over 30 issues without Peter Parker, so when we let him out of that box and he gets to put on that costume again and he gets to swing through the sky, it’s going to be the greatest feeling,” says Slott.

“But there’s a twist. There’s always a twist.”

I'm happy to be the first to reply to this big news. This isn't a surprise, but it's good to have you back, Pete.

WHens the movie come out? Oh... ok its like that. Welp that alternate cover is pretty sweet.

Posted by PeppeyHare

I can't believe people actually believed Peter wasn't coming back...

Anyway I've loved Superior, and I'm looking forward to this. Ramos on art is still a huge meh though

I'll be honest, I'm going to miss Doc Ock and the Spider-man he became. I never really read Spider-man before so that might have something to do with it.

Posted by Falconer

Best thing from this official announcement? Thank GOD there's a variant. And a pretty cool one too.

I can't imagine there being 1 bad comment on this story!

Posted by frozenedge

Only extra delusional Parker fans thought he'd never return from the dead. In sadder news, looks like we can say goodbye to Spider-Island base and the Spider-Army and the current Spider-Man suit once April hits

Edited by G-Man

@mksystem74: There was a rumor that while there'd be a new AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, there'd also be a SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN series. Of course, pure rumor at this point. But Slott did say there's a twist.

@scouts1998: You have way too much faith in the internet.

Very curious to see how it all plays out.

not necessarily....he may keep all of that

@g_man: I was thinking that as well, but would Pete really let him operate as a different Spider-man?

@danhimself: Come on it's Parker. With his luck, J.J.'s gonna grow a backbone the split second he sees Spider-Man's mask and stop funding him and probably end up turning Spider-Island into "Spider-Man suck" museum or something like that. The suit'll probably be stored with all the other back-up suits Parker hasn't used recently

Posted by RageEx2

If SpOck doesn't survive I will cry

Posted by Yung ANcient One

oh my god. parker is back. i cannot believe this. this is so crazy. parker came back just in time for his movie. i did not see this coming.

*sarcasm*

I can still remember users saying, "I can't believe they killed Parker." I was like, really... really... you really think Parker is dead, dead? Really?

I dunno about anybody else but it doesn't seem like Parker was gone that long. I feel for the Richard Rider fans. He might be the next Barry Allen and won't be back for a decade.

Pretty much this. I wouldn't say I've loved Superior (not because of the story itself, but because of how stupid and inept so many other characters had to be portrayed to make it work) but it was pretty clear Peter wouldn't stay gone. I think the uproar was worse from this than in the 90's when Ben Reilly had his stint.

I hope they end it well, and Peter comes back with a bang.

no one is funding him....he got some of the money to start up Parker Industries from Jonah's father...all of the money that he used for the Spider gear came from Otto's old accounts

@mksystem74: It's not like he'd ask for permission. Peter could try to stop him but will have plenty of damage control to worry about. "Peter" has ticked off a few people.

Shocking... Marvel loves changing their status quo to match the their movies hwen they come out.

I'm enjoying Superior... never was a big Peter Parker fan, but it their will me some real interesting stories coming out of this.

And the cover looks really bad.

is it me or does it look like peter skin color is a little darker in this cover?

Posted by mksystem74

@g_man: Well, yeah, but I would think he'd be determined to stop him haha. Even if he is doing some good in the world.

With Marvel's history of Spider-Man clones, it wouldn't surprise me is SpOck got his own unique body somehow. Doctor Octopus in general is too hot a commodity in Marvel and the Spidey mythos to have die off with Peter's return.

The only man who stays dead in comics is Uncle Ben it sometimes seems.

Thank goodness, Fanboys and Fangirls would finally shut up

Also, I think someone should replace as Slott as ASM's writer, Slott's voice was always better fitted to SpOck than to Peter. Hmmm... How bout Zeb Wells?

Welcome back, Peter :D

Posted by frozenedge

@danhimself: I thought Jameson was giving him money as well? Last thing I think I remember was SpOck saying his accounts were frozen after he pitched his old Octopus arms design to some people? I'm gonna have to reread the some of the past issues

Posted by akbogert

I am not surprised he's back. I'm surprised he's back already.

As for this twist, I think the only thing that would really kill my enthusiasm would be if they further damage his relationship with MJ. And it's not outside the realm of possibility:

Pete's back! but he doesn't remember anyone in his life because Ock killed his memories (*Evil Editor: see SSM #9). A new life for Parker begins in the ALL NEW Amazing Spider-Man #1!

Posted by Captain13

The twist may be that Peter is in a cloned body while SpOck still runs around in Pete's original body. There may be some crazy confusion hijinks coming up!

Posted by cameron83

That's cool news.

I mean,I liked Superior, and I thought that they were going to go on longer, but whatever :p

his doctoral thesis was based on Otto's old work which one of the professors recognized and failed him but later changed his mind....the money for Parker Industries was from Jonah's father cosigning a loan for him because he couldn't use Otto's money because Parker Industries was out in the open....he used Otto's money for the Spider gear and that's how Carlie was able to track it and figure out that Peter was telling the truth when he confronted her in Otto's body

I'm glad Peter is back I couldn't stand the IMO terrible writing in superior. Now's going to come probably the hardest part though. Damage control. I just hope they don't revert him to post OMD status because that would be really, really, really stupid.

Edited by Sammo21

I've enjoyed the large majority of Superior Spider-Man and always looked at it as an arc in Peter's life. Considering the only person to ever die was Doctor Octopus, I always got a little tired of hearing people whine about how this was ruining Spider-Man and blah, blah, blah. Most of the whiners never bothered to read anything and just wanted the character to stay the same forever.

Most people who think this was fast need to remember that the arc may have only lasted 16 months in the end but that we've gotten well over 2 years worth of issues in that time period since its always been a bi-monthly title. I think that gives it a little bit more story telling room than some other short lived arcs in the past for many characters. Not to mention we got supplemental stuff from the annuals and Superior Team-Up/Avenging Spider-Man.

Will clones be involved?

@g_man: Why should Marvel be aloud to control what you post because another side has exclusive rights? It is not your fault that the image was leaked and you should be able to freely post what you want. That doesn't seem to be objective or free journalism when a company can control what you are allowed to post and when. Seems like that we could get/have the same problem as in gaming journalism where companies wants to control who and which sites reviews the games (only giving review copies to the sites that gives good grades). Is this a problem that happens often?

RUINED FOREVER!!! Seriously, I put the over/under for variant covers at 27. That guarantees it being the top selling issue. I'll take the over.

They changed the status quo when they came up with "Superior Spider-Man". This is going back to what it already was.

So journalist should not be allowed to talk about leak government documents because the governments owns the content?
