Official: Peter Parker Returns April 2014 in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1

The moment some believed would never happen is coming up.

This may not exactly be news anymore. Last week an image apparently leaked revealing a new AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 with a familiar looking Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

No Caption Provided

There wasn't an official confirmation but Marvel did ask for the image to be removed. But now we can post the image once again as the NY Daily News has the exclusive on Peter Parker's return.

A relaunched AMAZING SPIDER-MAN debuts in April, written by Dan Slott. Slott's plan was always to eventually return Peter to the role of Spider-Man yet there were some that actually believed Peter's death was permanent and basically acted very mean and inappropriate instead of patiently waiting. Keeping the secret wasn't easy for Slott.

“To do that for a solid year of my life, that’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do — to look small children in the eye at a convention and lie to them,” says Slott. “One of them with an honest-to-God Little League uniform and a quivering lip. Inside, part of me was dying.”

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 alternate cover by Jerome Opena.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 alternate cover by Jerome Opena.

Peter Parker is coming back. That may ruin the surprise (which really shouldn't be a surprise) but it won't be that simple.

“We’ve gone over 30 issues without Peter Parker, so when we let him out of that box and he gets to put on that costume again and he gets to swing through the sky, it’s going to be the greatest feeling,” says Slott.

“But there’s a twist. There’s always a twist.”

How the heck is it suppose to work? And forget about the process of Pete getting his body back, I'm talking about Doc Ock having too much influence on his world. How is Pete suppose to pick up from that?

I know ,right?!!!

Now that this is official we can expect a whole lot of ''Keep SpOck as Spider-man it's to early for,him to return'' threads.

"SpOck is a better Spider-Man"
"You're wrong"
"Parker is boring"

And all this beautiful stuff.

@andy_117 said:

Are we going to get more Spider-Men perhaps? That'd be a fun twist. Right? Or can there only be one?

The twist relates to the story,i think......
Someone will die in Goblin Nation,or something will be carried on to the Amazing book.

They were compeletely anf uterly stupid, for a year to ignore the behaviour change.....imagine now, someone will go to Pete and say, "you're acting weird!......you were a jerk and now you're a nice guy....something's not right!" :P

I get that some people (very vocally) wanted Peter back, but I was actually enjoying Superior. Oh well. I guess the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (or the one).

I don't understand all the people connecting this to the ASM 2 release, why would they want to support it? The way I see it, Marvel would want the movie to do bad so they stop making them and the rights revert back, or at least they can buy them back for cheaper...

I MAY repeat MAY get back into Spider-Man after all these many years. Maybe Spider-Man can start fresh and ACTUALLY evolve the Peter Parker character. And we can all leave all of this behind us.

But before we do...I hope Doc Ock gets killed off for daring to kill Peter Parker.

@vance_astro: I realize that. But if you think about it, why should it matter?

The fans who came to the comics after watching the first ASM -- what in the current comics was there for them to recognize, other than a person named Peter? Gwen has long since been gone. Lizard's not exactly a headliner. When the new movie hits they'll be looking for a Rhino and Shocker that are not even remotely similar in the books. But most importantly, the film Peter is still quite young.

That's what scares me a bit about it. They have an in-text excuse for bringing "back" a Peter who's brand new, which of course wouldn't be bringing him back at all.

I actually wish Superior would last another year or so. It's been an excellent and fascinating Doc Ock story. It's fine Peter is back, I just hope Slott can spin a great and long story out of it. I'm not ready for the same old same old been there done that Spider-Man stories.

He's got some serious amount of damage control to do on his relationships and public image. Spock has done a great number on both. Though I do wander how he's going to react to the Ph.D, I wander if this might make him change his view on keeping his identity secret from even the avengers, cos if people like Tony, Beast and Pym knew...Spock might not have gotten away with what he did. If Ock stays alive, what happens to his memories of who Peter is?

Though if Slott is sincere about him "dying inside" from killing Parker off temporarily, I will keep my mind open for him in the future. Maybe he isn't so bad after all mwahaha.

As much as I've enjoyed Superior (and as improbable as that now seems considering my hesitation when the series was first announced) it will be nice to see the real Peter again. It could be interesting to see how he starts to pick up his life again after Ock has so systematically gone about changing his fortunes. Although, considering how well things have been going for Otto's, at least by Parker's old standards, some of that drama may be reduced. Still, things could (and probably will) change in the next few issues and I for one am looking forward to seeing how.

Ugh..Slott's still writing it, so it'll suck. I didn't like Slott's writing before the Doc Ock charade. But it's is Parker as the Amazing Spider-Man, so I'll probably buy it anyhow. Slott can't write it forever, can he?

While I agree that it makes no sense that the two would be related, (nobody is going to watch the movie, decide to read comic books, go to the comic book shop, ask for help, discover that the comics are in a temporary story line of Peter's body being taken over, and decide they don't want to read comics anymore. Just. No.) your logic is kind of flawed here. Firstly, connecting the comics to the movie release (apparently) is supposed to help support the comics, not the movies. Sony doesn't need help from comic books to get their movies attention. However, even if it did work that way, Marvel most certainly does not want these movies to fail. All 4 Spider-Man movies are in the top 100 grossing films of all time. Marvel gets to make a cut of that without having to pay for them to be made, and then gets the benefit of new comic book readers, and then gets the benefit of selling countless amounts of Spider-Man merchandise because of it. Besides, they know they're not getting those rights back any time soon even if it the franchise were to fail. Amazing Spider-Man 2 could fail traumatically by superhero movie standards and still be more than profitable for Sony.

A large part of me feels like after all that's happened to Peter he should be kind of serious and messed up for a long time, and not just jump back into his old self. I mean what happened to him is the most traumatizing thing i can imagine.

I don't think it should matter but Marvel is predictable. People have been saying that Peter would be back for ASM2 since Superior first started.

As, like a lot of other posters, a lifelong Spidey fan, I can only say how inevitable yet sad this news is.

In my opinion, Peter and his story had become dull, repetitive and predictable. I was at the point of giving up when the Spock storyline materialised and for me this gave new life to a long stale story.

For me the current story could have run a lot longer. I've enjoyed every issue of Superior and never mourned for Pete. At this moment I'm doubting I'll stay on once he comes back. With a lot of fresh and potentially exciting titles making their debuts this year, this comeback could be the story my bank balance has prayed for!!!!

Joker escapes the Asylum, kills 30 people,Batman catches him.
Occasionally he cripples a girl,or beats a boy to death.

Sounds familiar?!.....

And yet!!...somehow BRUCE WAYNE isn't a "dull-boring" character, and Joker is still an unpredictable son of a bitch....they're both 75(!!) years old!...

What im trying to say is....that kind of characters ARENT for changing.....it's not about giving the mantel to another guy!....they are permanent, and this was ALWAYS a story about Peter Parker!!.....he didn't die!....his body was abducted by Doctor F-ing Octapus!!....it's far from what people call a "permanent situation" dude.....

It's not like giving an honorable death to Parker and then putting ANOTHER GOOD person to take his place(Ultimate-Miles-etc) .....it's putting a villian in his body....you can't build-up on that!!

I hope you caught my drift! :P

(i used Bats, cuz you have a wonderful Arkham City avatar of Joker :) )
