Today’s just the day for poster appreciation, isn’t it? I just posted images of the new posters and standees for IRON MAN 2 and now we’ve got the one-sheet for THE LOSERS. Seems like it’s been long due, as I remember not being able to find any actual posters for the movie when I was writing up the previous articles. For a movie coming out next month, you’d think there’d already be something out there, but I’ll reckon that the shifting release date hasn’t helped the marketing department. Anyway, the poster’s here and, in a welcome surprise, it directly parallels the Jock-drawn teaser poster from Comic Con. Actually, it shouldn’t be a surprise since that composition was so cool and eye-catching itself.
Here they both are… compare and contrast as you see fit, oh composition-judging Comic Vine community.
And I feel warranted to bring up the poster for the 90s movie CLAY PIGEONS, since they all riff on the same narrative theme. I like it a lot… it gives you the impression that you’re a dead body and all these gun-hands are standing over. Surrounding you. Taunting you.
For those of you still unfamiliar with this Vertigo comic-based movie that’s hitting on the 23 of next month, here’s the expanded synopsis…
An explosive action tale of betrayal and revenge, "The Losers" centers around the members of an elite Special Forces unit sent to the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. But the team - Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar - soon find that they have become the target of a deadly double cross, instigated from the inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max.
Making good use of the fact that they are now presumed dead, the group goes deeply undercover in a dangerous plot to clear their names and even the score with Max. They are joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda, who is more than capable of scoring a few points of her own. Working together, when they’re not arguing amongst themselves, they have to stay one step ahead of the globetrotting Max - a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war for his own benefit. If they can take down Max and save the world at the same time, it’ll be a win-win for the team now known as The Losers.
A win-win for the Losers! Oh snap! I like it. Nothing like a little antonymous wordplay for your tagline. It's up there with their TV spot's "The CIA's most elite... just became... they're most wanted."
