Off YOUR Mind: How Long Should Superman and Wonder Woman be a Couple?

It's going to happen. There's no stopping it. Will it last 'forever'? We all have opinions, here's your chance to share your thoughts.

It's been a couple days since the news broke that Superman and Wonder Woman would be getting together. There's been plenty said about it from those that are strongly opposed to the idea and those who think it makes sense. That isn't what we're going to discuss today.

The fact is, this is happening. The issue most likely has already been printed and future stories are being worked on. I wrote about the possibility of Superman and Wonder Woman getting together over a year ago in June 2011. Basically I felt it could be something to explore but just as I feel Spider-Man and Mary Jane should be together, the same goes for Superman and Lois Lane. It's likely just a matter of time until they do end up back together.

The question for today is how long should the relationship between Superman and Wonder Woman last?

Could this happen in the New 52?!?
Could this happen in the New 52?!?

How much of these two being together do we want to see? How far should it be played out? Should it be a major story and last years (our time) or should it just be looked at and end after a few months (our time)? We know the two of them together has been explored several times over the years. How long should it be explored this time? Will this fit into their respective solo books?

Let us know below. Share your opinions on how long you think it should last and what sort of stories with the two you'd like to see. Let's try to keep it cleaner than that sneaky Superman.

Like Superman really was unaware of the possibility that hot lava would splash up at Wonder Woman. He's more careful than that. Clearly he was just trying to get her out of her costume. Notice how he tries to shift the blame on Wonder Woman.

I predict The Kingdom will be heavily referenced in the future issues of Superman and WonderWoman's New 52 titles.

It's just a fling. No matter how many times he gets his universe rebooted, his destiny is with Lois.

Just like Batman can't escape his boy wonder.

As soon as they finish the first kiss they should be like "That was awkward..." and just stay friends, that's how long it should last.

They should last 2 seconds.

They are a terribly boring couple, nothing interesting spawns out of it.

Lois and Superman went well together because she fell in love with Superman before Clark and he had to accept that. Also she is in danger being Superman's wife. That's interesting, and something i would read and look into.

Superman and Wonder woman..... both have super powers that basically mimic each other...who are a couple based off the soul reason they it's the "main" superpowered guy and the "main" superpwered girl of the Justice League.

DC gives us juicy love affairs with trails, ups and downs and drama. Something that a couple like Superman and Wonder Woman would lack that.

DC will never stoop that low and put two big DC characters in a boring, "saw that coming" relationship

Hopefully Justice league #12 will be just coverart and they won't be in a relationship.

I think people are blowing this "relationship" out of proportion. It's not going to really amount to much because we can pretty much assume it will remain just in JLA and won't cross over into their prospective books.

DC are just trying to be hip and trendy "Look we hitched the Alien and the Amazon instead of the old ball and chain he had been dragging for all those years."

They'll give it a few years and then reunite him with Lois expecting roaring applause.

Diana may be the most magnificent woman Superman ever met, but Lois is the most compelling.

It should last as long as it stays interesting like any good relationship. I defended this relationship a lot yesterday. It's not because I'm crazy about it, but I find it intriguing that they're going to go through with it. I really don't think it's as bad an idea as some are making it out to be. Three writers I respect found the prospect of Superman and Wonder Woman dating so engaging that they used it in their work: Mark Waid (Kingdom Come), Frank Miller (DKR2), and Alan Moore (Twilight of the Superheroes proposal). And, okay, DKR2 wasn't great, but you see my point? If this is done well then it shouldn't be a problem.

This. Although I'm dead set against the idea, I'm intrigued to see if Johns can actually make this work. The one thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that the relationship can only be maintained in Justice League given that Action Comics and Superman have their own solicitation plans for a while as does Wonder Woman.

Though, I admit that I am quite happy because when I was little, I always thought Superman and Wonder Woman were lovers. That part of me didn't die, maybe it never will.

Still, I just have a feeling that the relationship might not last. Give it a few month or year.

For now, let's see how it will turn out and hopefully the relationship between them won't be written like a terrible fanfiction.

I'm too stuck in my ways to get invested in this new relationship.

After moaning about it these past few days, I have come to the conclusion that I will suck it up and give it a chance. There could be some interesting conflict within this team due to their relationship. After all, they always say never hook up with a work colleague because things can get awkward.

Also, thinking back to issue 11 I think it's safe to say Wonder Woman may be emotionally crippled after the last panel if what it looks like is true. Bad Superman! Don't take advantage.

I don't think it should be that long. Less than a year. maybe 1 arc, 6 issues maybe. I think if he was interested in Lois then would he be interested in Wonder Woman? Just wondering. But I think they might find that they are either too different in terms of personality or maybe too similar, both being superheroes and maybe at the end of the day want to talk about something different. And I think he should start dating Lois.

Lois Lane sucks.

Supes and Wondie may not be the best couple, but I still think Superman deserves a super powered female love interest instead of Lois.

I don't care that it's wonder women and superman. Don't try and tell me that he has to be with Lois Lane, cause guess what. He doesn't. This is the new 52, new boundaries new stories and new possibilities. Don't cry about what use to be the norm. I will say as far as character goes, i don't see wonder woman and superman working. Her attitude directly clashes with supes. There is a long list of dc characters that would be a more interesting match for wonder woman. Hell, batman's character would fit better with Diana. Not that I'm suggesting they should be a couple, just mentioning the obvious.

Well if I'm not mistaken we had a temporary pairing of the two of them a couple of years after COIE and I thought it was great then because he and Lois weren't together there either. And we also saw it in KC and I thought it appropriate there too considering Lois was dead. We know that this is happening and there's no sense in trying to determine why or why it shouldn't happen. I will just say that considering how the state of New 52 is to create new ideas and go in new directions that this will be a relationship to last a while. As for marriage? Too soon to say. And there's also part of me who thinks possibly that the pre-Flashpoint reality will eventually come back and that none of this will matter. ::shrugs::

Personally, I'm a big fan of the idea.

So I'd like to see it last for as long as possible. I accept that the simple truth is: If it doesn't work ie story, visuals, general intrigue and (not to mention) positive commercial results (it's a market thing, after all) then obviously DC will probably change it -- one year? two? -- we can only speculate at the moment.

If they're going to give the idea a good, serious try, it should last 12 months at least IMO and see what happens results wise

5 years maximum, it will be 5 years of suffering and bad moment for the readers but we have to go this way for DC to understand this is a bad idea and they should never do it again.

But i really hope it will end fast, right now the superman title is boring as hell and wonder woman is one of the greatest title, doing this is like saying "We at DC we love to puke on our comics".

I think John Byrne and George Perez did it best by having Superman and Wonder Woman go on a date and ,depsite Darkseid interrupting, realize their views on life and each other are too different and they're better off being friends. In two issues Byrne and Perez proved beyond measure why a W.W. S.M. ship won't work. So, this new attempt shouldn't last more than 3, 4 issues tops.

Maybe I've just been a Supes fan too long, but I really don't want to see this work. Lois is, as FanofUltraman says, his destiny. I get that they want to shake things up, but the thought of this panning out for longer than a couple of issues annoys me more than anything. Don't get me wrong Johns is a great writer, and I love what he's done with almost everything he touches, but his proclamation that this is the "status quo" concerns me. For now, I'll play along with this, but if something doesn't happen to propel the Big Blue Boyscout to his TRUE love, I'm afraid to say that I might have to stop reading the new 52.

I think it should last a few years [our time] and maybe they should have a son/daughter together. I mean imagine what powers that kid would be capable of. Overall I think this realationship is a great idea, because we all get a break from boring old Lois Lane.

I want this to last for as long as possible. Someone said a decade? Okay, I buy.

Why the hell everybody is so surprised (and many of you upset) about this couple is absolutely incomprehensible to me.

They have a lot of history together, a lot of hints and innuendo of a mutual romantic interest, and it's been 40+ years now. Where do you think all those images of they kissing and fighting together and each other, all made not by fans, but by great artists of the comic industry came from? Yep, from the comic books pages and covers. Every other Elseworld ends up with them together. And let's not forget Kingdom Come was canon before the reboot.

Let me remind all of you ranting about "Wonder Woman is Batman's girl" that, first of all, Diana is nobody's "girl", and that pairing was cooked by Bruce Timm for the Justice League animated series in the late '90s and the first years of the new century, there was no history before that. None of them had any romantic interest in the other. In fact, during the nineties, during George Perez take on Wonder Woman comic books, she was very much in love with Superman. Yes, even when the JL cartoons were being aired.

After the cartoon's first seasons, there were vague mentions of a romantic possibility between BM and WW in a few JLA issues, and one kiss during the Blackest Night Event. In JLA #90, Diana has an experience with a mind scanning machine, imagining her possible lives with Batman. After that, both of them agreed they were NOT meant to be. Period. The rest is fan-fantasy, nothing more.

As for Lois, well, their marriage is also a thing of the nineties, probably triggered by the short success of the TV show "Lois and Clark, The New Adventures of Superman". Before that, she never had any interest in Clark Kent, only in Superman, she always treated Clark like an idiot. How can somebody say she loves a guy when she doesn't even know his whole person, it really escapes me. For years Superman had several romantic interest besides Lois: Lory Lemaris, Lana Lang, Cat Grant, etc. Even though Lois was a constant, it seemed to be an on and off kind of thing. The stupid notion that she "grounded" him, that she is his connection with humanity is disrespectful to the efforts of Jonathan and Martha Kent, the human couple who raised Clark, grounding him and teaching what being human means to an alien child.

Many, many times Lois prevented Superman to do his job because she was in some kind of crisis or a life threatening situation. Except that one time when she kept calling Superman to save her father, and he went to save someone else instead. Someone much more important to him and the safety of the world. Who? Good guess: Wonder Woman. That was during the "Our Worlds at War" saga. Did anyone say that they are boring because Diana would never be in danger of dying? Hm.

Lois is his destiny? She will die too soon, old and weak (but still annoying) and he will go on living for who knows how long without change. I'd say that an immortal Amazon is clearly the one he will settle down with, exactly like in Kingdom Come.

Destiny my "S", says Kal.

As you can see, there's nothing new about this.

Everything I've just said is FACT, so, unless you try to refute me with hard cold facts, please don't bother.

Leave this be. It only can be a good thing. Let the many of us who still enjoy and buy the New 52 books have our entertainment peacefully. Because that's what it is: a beautiful, funny and, some times, compelling entertainment. It's not a cause. It's not a crusade.

Let's hope DC writers do a good thing out of this. That's the only way it will last.
